Which women are on 2 dollar bills and other currency?

  • If Harriet Tubman ever gets on a piece of currency, will she be the first? No way! Females have been on currency for a long time - mostly as allegorical figures, but they've been there nonetheless. Which women have been on $2 bills? This video features women on paper currency, with all respect to Susan B Anthony and Sacagawea, who appeared on coins. If you're into numismatics, the economy or even the treasury, this video is for you.

When I saw someone make a YT channel just for $2 bills I thought it was ridiculous, but every video features something mind-blowing I'm glad to find out. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Danger! The channel started because I needed a place to host the film's trailer and a clip or two. It blew up from there. More good stuff coming!

    Nice video, as always.
Another interesting thing about women on money: Congress had a bill introduced by Seymour Halpern in 1971 to reintroduce the $2 bill, but replacing Thomas Jefferson with Susan B. Anthony. At the same session, James G. Abourezk introduced another bill that would replace the reverse of the (at the time the last) $2 bill, Monticello, with Mount Rushmore. Neither bill passed, and, well, the rest is history.

I don't remember learning about that as I researched to do the full film. Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Always interesting and informative content! I sincerely commend you John for doing such a great job with your presentation of interesting facts on the $2.00 bill. Absolutely a great channel! I always look forward to seeing a new video from you.

Thank you! That's really kind of you to say. I've been trying to ramp up the production and get content up more frequently. Hoping to put a video up a week for at least the next 5-6 weeks. Stay tuned.

With many people using credit cards debit cards and other digital payment options paper money may be a thing of the past soon. I love paying with the $2s myself it's a conversation starter "wow I didn't know they still have $2 bills" lol anyway great video

You are correct that cash may be slowly fading, but it will never go away completely. People are enamored with cash, and it's also a safety net in uncertain times. Something about it... people just feel safer with a bunch of cash on hand than a debit card. I mean, if I offered you $100, would you want it in cash? Since it won't ever go away (in my opinion), the appeal of a $2 bill should stay consistent. And if cash DOES all but disappear, imagine how cool it would be to see a $2 bill then! Thanks for the comment.

Has there ever been a $2 coin? A commemorative one perhaps?

    • @msticks3672

Not in the US. But there was a US $2.50 Gold Coin issued in various designs from the 1790's to the 1920's. It was called a "quarter eagle" - the "eagle" being a $10 gold piece.

That is NOT Pocahontas on the face of the $20 National Bank Note. She is, however, on the back of the First Series (1875) $20 National Bank Note.

      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  Před 4 lety

Thanks for the catch - you are right! My research led to this bill being the one shown, but it's actually the back of a similar version from a different year that has the Baptism of Pocahontas on the back. Bad error due to some misleading info online. It may be the wrong bill, but so far you're the first that caught it, and everyone else at least learned that Pocahontas was on a bill at all! :)

@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary The face of the $20 National shown was used for several different series: 1875, 1882 Brown Back, 1882 Date Back and 1882 Value Back. Only the 1875 series had really cool back printed in black and green. On the 1875 it had a scene called "The Baptism of Pocahontas". So she was on the $20 national, only on the back and only on the series of 1875. I've been a collector for many years and am happy to provide information. Maybe I ought to get a brand new $2 bill ;-)

Since I saw your comment I went back and learned all of what you told me! I would normally go and fix the video, but it's tough on the subscribers to pull this one down and put up a new one, so I'm just going to leave it and answer any comments about the error this way. You should get a $2 bill, but the ones I have right now are being used in an eBay experiment for next week's video, so you'll have to double back and remind me once that one runs.

@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary I love your videos. My comments on Pocahontas were meant to help - not criticize. I have always been fascinated by the $2 bill. Got my first one from the tooth fairy in 1953 so that ought to give you an idea of how old I am and how long I have been collecting coins and paper money. I would be happy to help in any way I can - I love the hobby. I just bought an uncut sheet of $2 bills from the BEP that I am going to frame and hang in my home office!

I really hate that I made that kind of error! I know you were not trying to criticize - I've seen you commenting on many of my videos. I'm really glad you are interested in twos and like my stuff! The best way you can help is to share my videos around and help me get more views. Post them to social media, encourage people to watch and subscribe. I had a really good thing for a while as CZcams was suggesting my videos often and they were getting watched a lot. Lately, though, the views have really tapered off. I'm trying to post weekly now to kickstart it again, but all the eyes and views really help. Thanks for the correction and any boost you van give! Really appreciated.

What are you talking about? This video shows women who have appeared on $2 bills. It has nothing to do with wokeness, erasing founders, or anything. It's just factual information for entertainment and education purposes.
