Kevin Blumberg no worries mate.. in the end I made the decision to replace my starter motor which I’ve put up another video doing that but mate glad I could help 👍
Does the outside bolt(on the left) become flush with the bottom of the starter? I had to put one in and I was only able to get it up so far before i felt like it was going further into the starter (it’s probably less than an inch from being flat on the bottom of the starter surface) but I wasn’t sure if maybe it is supposed to stop at a certain point
I have a similar situation where I only have one bolt. My question is, should I just replace my starter because of potential damage or what. It was working with no issues just a few days ago and now clicks and I’m guessing its doing that because it migrated away from the gears. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Hi Mate, Have you located any broken bolts in your engine bay? which bolt is missing was it the same one as mine? I just replaced my bolts into hex head bolts and my starter worked perfectly so as long as you didn't strip the gears your starter should be ok.
exact same thing happend to me bolt went in half , half of it stuck , super hard to get out .It was a pain to find this bolts in sweden jesus christ, dimension was 9.5 mm and 120 mm. now it works fine but the cables to the starter motor feels a little weird im not sure if they suppose to be placed like that on my boat. i got Sea ray 160 Bow rider
I have the same problem, when it starts it makes an awful grinding noise. I have to manufacture the bolts.but it seems the fitting of the motor is not perfect. to start the motor without the sound a helper is needed to push the starter motor with a hummer handle down and out. though it seems only a fitting or alignment of the starter it is not easy to be done
Omar Khamis it’s sound like it may not be the exact starter motor for the engine or unless the teeth have ground down that much! Since this post I’ve actually purchased a new starter for my boat on eBay and changed it only a couple of weeks ago it’s an easy job to do the new starter was only AU $119 and came with bolts and fitted the new one in under 10min.
@@chrispretorius5999 only one I’ve mine broke so I was able to remove it, if you can’t make a slot in the top of the broken bolt you will need to remove the engine mate
Hi Tim you may have had the sound turned off as I talked in the video explaining what problems I had with the starter motor. Look at my other video as I needed to replace it with a new starter in the end.
Dear God, thank you. 2006 175 over hear in NY. My friend found this video for me. Thank you, thank you. 💯 what I needed to see.

Yes the the bolt need to sit flush with the bottom of the starter. Watch my other video as I need to replace my starter with a new one in the end.
You can hear what the noise sounded like in my previous video!

Both of mine snapped , how to get to them out
Have the broken in the bloke or are they sticking out a little
As I cut a groove/line in the broken bolt and used a flat blade screw driver and backed them out
@@jdbourke75 How do you get to the other one without taking the engine out?
@@jdbourke75 You don't get it do ?
