Super helpful tidbits to look for! I have a starter on order, but I'm definitely going to take mine apart and see about cleaning it up first this weekend. Thanks!
I’m hearing the one loud click sound so I replaced the starter relay and installed a brand new battery but am still hearing just the one loud click. Any ideas?
I’m having a different kind of trouble. Mine about a month ago seeemed to just die. Turned key got the 11-12v. And as I was getting everything prepped to start I turned the key. Cranked over once and then died. I don’t think it’s battery. Weird because the bilge pump still works. No electrics radio speakers lights etc.
Jam a flathead screw driver behind the Boltheads and keep max presure on them. This way you dont have to take that block bracket off, and you'll save a lot of time.
Does the solenoid rely on the ground via that block Bracket? asking as, with my merc, there are nuts behind the bolts, through the bracket - complete pia to re-tighten.
Mine is starting but I hear a good grinding noise once in a while when attempting to turn it over. Sometimes I do and sometimes I dont. Assuming it's my starter but not a great mechanic myself. Is the starter hard to replace?
Mine does not do anything when I turn the key however the bilge, radio and blower work. We noticed the 90amp starter fuse has good power on one side and very little on the other. Could this be the issue?
If voltage is too high, then it's your voltage regulator which is usually built into the alternator. Too high voltage can cause some electrical stuff to malfunction like blowing your lights. So get it fixed.
I have a starting problem. after turning the key I hear click and see 14V comes down to 11V. Looks like something take energy to drop the voltage but nothing rotate or even try to rotate. What it could be?
I would say your starter is bound up. It needs to be taken apart and cleaned up. The parts last a long time but the brushes or under the brush plate might be corroded

What is the part number of that solenoid?
Very helpful - thanks!
Good video. Going to check all of that. Thanks.
Merci beaucoup ❤❤❤❤❤
Lifesaver! Very helpful video, didn’t know about the neutral position switch.
New subscriber and this helps a lot mine click click click and no start

I have a 3.0 that, for no reason, will not shut off, I had to pull the coil wire to shut it down, is it the key of a relay sticking, or what ???

Did you ever solve the issue? We are experiencing the same noise when turning over the engine, but it disappears once the engine is running.
I did, just changed the starter...was only 120 bux

I have the same as you in the first half of that point. I haven’t checked my 90amp.
My voltage is reading real high....16+. Will replacing the relay solve this? Right now the boat will start when it feels like it. Very frustrating.

WhEre can I find the part number
What if it won’t click at all
Still can be the solenoid.
mine was dead silent and it was the problem. you can jump it by running a jumper from each of the posts and it will crank.

@@peteranania7166 yea ... that is 100% correct guess. The starter fails apart. Not just brushes.
Maybe late as a reply - check the solenoid. It will make one click and nothing. Cheap place to start looking.
Cheap and nasty US made solenoid, why use bend over tabs, good solid rivets are best ~
