The Top 10 Booster Sets of all time - The Yugioh Hierarchy

- Booster sets are Konami primary way of giving the players the newest cards, archtypes and strategies, but have you ever wondered which ones are the best ?
I try to answer that question in this video. - Hry
Totally agree with Duelist Alliance. We went from a format where you could play anything, and where random decks topped, to a format where literally the ONLY topping decks at premier events came from archetypes in that set. And that was without a banlist change in between.
How is that good though? Don't we want meta diversity?
ThePwntagonist It's not that it's a good thing, but a revolutionary thing.
These sets are mentioned for their power, not their "good."
well, you can say that and yet my Phantom of Darkness + Structured deck DW's could still go fairly well against the 3 of them XD
Has there even been a deck released before DUEA that can stand up to a post-DUEA deck anymore?
Piconoe well yeah, and i guess I'll have to say again *well constructed for a change DARK-WORLDS* still do the job at least in my case and not even joking though, tbh these new top decks aren't really all that OP compared to other ones (like baby rulers, judgement prophecies or full chaos) so they're fairly beatable... QLIS makes DW a favor by running skill drain so you can run something else, with Shadolls just go full draw power to get the Virus traps and sack them and for BA is a similar thing, just stun them with skill drain and go broke with Erradicator and call traps (no fire lakes) ... not even close to "tier 0" though
All of the original Yugioh Booster sets were BAD ASS.
IOC is my favorite of all time with Pharaoh's Servant a close 2nd.
I'm a little surprised Pharaonic Guardian isn't at least an Honorable mention.
- Gravekeeper's introduced.
- Royal Tribute (Limited)
- Ring of Destruction (Banned)
- Don Zaloog
- Spirit Reaper (Limited/Semi-Limited at one point)
- Metamorphosis (Banned)
- Book of Moon (Limited)
- Mirage of Nightmare (Banned)
- Trap Dustshoot (Banned)
- Reasoning (Limited at one point)
- Reckless Greed
- Pyramid Turtle
Before anyone asks, smaller Hidden Arsenal type sets (The Secret Forces) were not eligible.
You forgot to mention order of chaos with inventors, wind ups and all the other cool stuff in there
do the worst sets next :)
Yo where was Duelist Revolution? Solemn, Duality, Scrap Dragon. It wasn't even in the honorable mentions damn.
dragonlofdeath Cyberdark Impact makes number 1 for that list. lol
SkyScourgeGod instant fusion, snipe hunter, vanity's fiend, black horn, chain strike, accumulated fortune
pretty sure there are worse sets than this, where there were a handful of good cards, all rare or below
Let's not forget, Light of Destruction introduced Honest, one of the greatest hand traps of all time...
bujins taught me to hate that card
Also, because I knew people would instantly bring up Duelist Revolution. I thought about it and thought originally that it would easily make it in the top 10. It had Warning, Duality, Veiler and Scraps. But then I took those out and tried finding other great and amazing cards, and they're really a lot. I'll take Karakuri over Scraps and Warning and Vanity are basically equal. Leaving Star Strike Blast still with meta changing GK/Dragunity support and collectively better hand traps.
because it was a money set people think its the greatest :) pot of duality, warning, effect veiler and scraps are good indeed but the rest of the set is decent
legacy of darkness broke the game for a while. but my favorite will always be lob you cant beat the the origin of the game.
MegaCapitalG it's been 3 years can you make update to this list.
What you said about Legacy of Darkness is so true, that set had so many bizarre broken cards. xD The release of Phantom Darkness actually led to me taking a break from this game all together, it was too chaotic.
I would also argue that Cybernetic Revolution could make this list. The introduction of Cyber Dragon completely changed how we played the game. And having the ability to Metamorphosis into Cyber Twin Dragon was absolutely devastating.
What about ancient prophecy it had infernities and x saber monsters plus enough dinosaur support to put them at a advantage
sting
Cyberdark impact should have been number 1
lulz, oh you trolls. I'm thinking about doing a top 10 worst booster packs, but I'm sure people will just get pissed off.
MegaCapitalG
There really is no point in doing so, we all know Cyberdark impact would be number 1, aside from Dark horn of heaven and Vanity's Fiend it had nothing.
You forgot Instant Fusion and Snipe Hunter.
DO EET I WILL LOVE U LONG TIME
MegaCapitalG as long as Cyberdark Impact is number 1, I won't get pissed off (if it's your opinion on the worst packs because there's no set I really hate (except the one above))
You know, it wasn't the best set ever, but my personal favorite set was the original "Legend of the Blue Eyes White Dragon".
Like I said, I know it didn't have the strongest cards ever, but I have so many great memories of the game, plus it was the set that introduced us to the game. Also, Blue Eyes White Dragon was always one of my top favorite cards in the game and it still is to this day.
I'm personally wondering why Cybernetic Revolution wasn't on here. Introducing Cyber Dragon was a major game changing state to where he was limited shortly after it's release.
Pharaoh's servant, Light of Destruction good times. Magic Ruler was my first step I got into the game. The fact that a majority of the cards are limited/ see play, as you claimed is a testament.
The duelist genesis was the most influential set of my dueling career. Most, if not all, of the best Synchros in that set (Stardust, Red Dragon, Thought Ruler, Goyo) are still among the staples of my extra deck.
I have fond memories of Legacy of Darkness.
when the set first came out, myself and my 2 best friends (at the time) bought a buncha packs, about 20 bucks worth each. I pulled Tyrant Dragon. 1 of my Friends pulled Freed the Matchless General, and the other pulled Dark Ruler Ha Des. those 3 cards went on to determine our playstyles for years to come. Power/Dragons, Control/Fiends, Swarming/Warriors
That was my first set with Tyrant Dragon as my first big pull, plus it had the best worded version of Exiled Force with: "Offer face up this card as a tribute to destroy 1 monster on the field".
Invasion of Chaos will always be the best.
My favorite booster box is Duelist Genesis. Also a great booster box was without a doubt Cross roads of chaos because it gave many new players and.old players very strong cards and gave birth to morphotronics
I'm shocked Invasion of Chaos isn't number 1, It made Yugioh what it is today, yes, Duelist Alliance gave 3 tier 1 decks, but Invasion of Chaos has 3 of the top 10 most deadly and powerful monsters ever: BLS EotB, CED EotE and DMoC, 3 cards that cannot be replicated in any way, shape or form by any card in today's game. Not to m mention the shenanigans from other cards in the set such as Dimension Fusion, Manticore of Darkness, and gave birth to staples throughout many formats like Compulse and Smashing Ground.
Happy to see pharaohs servant is on this list. I remember when I got a booster pack that had no commons . Not one, all rares and hollows
yeah as soon as i opened this video i was thinking duelist alliance was number 1 without question. not only were the decks in it all playable right away, they were all top tier decks and made literally a dozen other decks obsolete.
I agree with this list... well, except that I would have had Invasion of Chaos at number 1. Most people forget one crucial fact about that set: It's most powerful monster, Chaos Emperor Dragon, was one of the reasons we even have a restricted section in our ban list at all. Before IOC, everything that was on the list was limited to either one or two, NOTHING banned. It wasn't until the infamous and terrifying Yata-Lock that the banned list was born. Anyone else agree with me?
Surprised duelist revolution wasn't even a honourable mention.
You forgot that thanks to Invasion of Chaos, Konami introduced the first ever world wide forbidden/limited list.
+ThePoetryNinja Semi-limited and limited list already existed. And when IoC was released, yup next list they came with the forbidden list where they banned CED,Yata,Witch,Sangan
To my knowledge they didn't banned Sangan. But others got banned.
They didn't ban Sangan, but they also banned Butterfly Dagger Elma, a key piece to the infamous loop leading into Exodia.
Legend of Blue eyes have powerful cards like Raigeki, Dark Hole, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, Exodia
YGO Skunk Maybe using the set that introduced the game would be kind of...redundant?
YGO Skunk LOB had annoying cards...but good ones...
Did you consider Cybernetic Revolution? Not only did it have Bubbleman and Miracle Fusion but it, of course, it had Cyber Dragon which turned the current metagame of goats on its head. The game would be completely different without Cyber Dragon's release. Was there not enough good cards in the set to warrant a place or did the set go ignored?
maybe not even an "honorable mention" material but both Soul of the Duelist and Flaming Eternity the final sets at the end of Original DM era were like really special for the game though (at least to me) ... the introduction of interesting *_Lvl_** monsters* and *Horus* in *SofD* was awesome, while *FE* was the introduction of one really neat monster which is *Neftys* also just like Magicians Force was for spellcasters in *FE* there's some cool atributes cards and cool support for still my fav type and style yet which are _beasts_ ... many good memories from duels using those packs tho
This list is very true, but I feel like other honorable mentions include Duelist Revolution (Scraps, Duality, Warning, Veiler, need I say more?), and Storm of Ragnarok (Six Sams, MORE KARAKURI, Maxx C, Doppel Warrior, lance). I feel that 5Ds released the most well-constructed/balanced packs in which that have generic s/t and decent archetype support. Zexal I think was the WORST series not in the anime both in the fact that there were SO many bad archetypes (Too many bad Madolche, Prophecy, Mermail, Fire Fist, Mecha Phantom Beast filler monsters; thats not including all the bad shit from the anime itself).
I hate how ever since the Zexal era Konami keeps adding more and more crappy commons. I mean they could easily support other archetypes or mechanics of the game with all that wasted space :/
oh my, i guess i've found someone so badass that could beat all those ZeXal arquetypes even in their prime lol (Madolche, Prophecy, FireFist and Mermail ever having bad monsters? please XD)
VixXstazosJOB Explain to me how Mermail Abyssbalaen, Mermail Abyssmander, Hermit of Prophecy, Madolche Marmalmaide, Madolche Baaple, Coyote, Swallow, Caribou were ever good? These archetypes all had these and more as "filler" cards.
VixXstazosJOB
Even if the other monsters of those archetypes are baller, Madolche, Fire Fist, Prophecy and Mermail all had some bad monsters. They were typically commons or rare, sometimes supers.
@VixXstazosJOB Just cuz an archetype is good doesn't mean all of its cards are good does that mean you play Elemental hero Avian in Heros? Does that mean you play Snake in Fire fist? I'm really sorry if I sound like a dick and I'm not sure if you didn't read his comment right but I'm pretty sure that's what he meant.
Great list, I'd change the order a little bit I think but you're pretty spot on on the important stuff. Great Yugioh video.
Can you make a top 10 pulls? As in, throughout YGO history, the best pulls you could get at the time. See for example now the money card to pull is Brio, a couple of months ago it was Dante. A couple of years ago it was Dracossack, TGU, Rabbit, Duality, etc... It will also be fun to look at how the game has always been expensive, even more than todays.
Magicians Force=personal favorite
What about duelist revolution
he completely missed it not even a mention
***** agreed I think that set had pot of duality, solemn warning and effect veiler
+KemoSTL it wasnt the best set ever released.. imo. why ddo you think that?
Duelist Revolution was amazing. Scrap Dragon, Solemn Warning, Effect Veiler, Pot of Duality, all cards still seen today. All of them have been staples at some point during the last 4 - 5 years.
Lol as soon as I saw the title I was like "duelist alliance is gonna be number one" so many new T1 decks that have stayed relevant since the release. I did get kinda mad towards the end because I wasn't sure IOC was going to be on there.
physics were in the game before genisis, but there were only like 4 of them
I liked Last Millennium best because it truly introduced my favorite archetype the E-Heroes
I completely agree with Duelist Alliance. It was an amazing set and new ground for YuGiOh.
Hmm...great list. However I feel like Cybernetic Revolution should've made the top 10 because it changed the way the game was played as well. Not only did it give us Cyber Dragon, the 2100 beater that effectively ended Goat Control, it introduced some very degenerate and powerful OTKs. Just something to consider because I know this was a stacked list. So many to choose from.
So you didn't consider IOC a power creep set, even with CED, BLS DMoc and Dimension Fusion?
He forgot it man xd. there would also be no dad format without IOC. dimension fusion and DMoC were both from IOC and were crucial in the DAD deck
Other honorable mentions should've been
Elemental energy: introduced dark world and pot of avarice
Crossroads of chaos: gave us black rose, more support for plants, zombies, spellcaster's, and psychics
Storm of ragnarok: gave us new six sams, maxx c, scrap and karakuri support
Return of the duelist: introduced prophecy, madolche, and geargia and it was the set that began giving support for attributes, return of the duelist had earth attribute, abyss rising had water attribute, etc.
soul of the duelist: introduced the LV monsters such as the Horus and armed dragon series
Gladiators assault: introduced gladiator beasts and evil heroes, plus there was support for recent archetypes at the time such as six sams, alien, neos, and this set had an awesome cover card: elemental hero chaos neos
You should do top 10 worst cards, archetypes booster boxes etc
Ever gonna do an update to this MegaCapitalG? A lot has changed since then. Duelist Alliance would probably still be number 1 but a set that rhymes with MOSH would probably be pretty up there :P
Storm of Ragnarok also had the amazing six samurai and Maxx "C", which is an important part of the game today. Honestly, the 5d's series packs were the best the game has ever had.
I agree with the number 1 spot. 3 decks from that set strait up became teir 1, and 1 of the decks was a TCG exclusive.
Totally agree with this list. I played since Legend of Blue-Eyes (pulling a Blue-Eyes out of my first pack, even.) and I lived through a lot of this as well, not so much on the competitive scene, but I was there.
Good list. I might've rearranged them a bit but overall I don't think I would change any sets in it. Duellist Alliance is definitely one of the most brutal sets for sure.
I feel like Duelist Revolution should have been on this list. It introduced some of the most powerful cards that lasted for years, and will still continue to impact the game such as Solemn Warning, Pot of Duality, and Effect Veiler. It also brought a couple good engines and locks such as the Naturia Mosquito lock and the Scrap engine. Overall, I think it was a very influential set.
What about the wind up creature set and inzektors( order of chaos) ive played in the format playing inzektors and wind up was a terrible match up for me
I'm really surprised DUEA was number 1. I knew it would be in the Top 5 at least, but I thought IOC or LTYG would have beaten it out easily just by how nasty powerful those sets were.
Couldn't agree more. But this list is something I can accept. But what about Legacy of the Valiant?! I was a bit surprised that didn't get a mention as well as Cybernetic Revolution.
I agree with u about duelist allience
The Shining Darkness, Duelist Alliance, New Challengers, Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy, Secret Forces, and Maximum Crisis are my personal favorites.
No Cyber Revolution? Cyber Dragon alone is worth placing on this list.
And Let's not forget Duelist Allience also introduced Performapals to us.A deck that became tier negative 500.Then they got obliterated.
DREV
warning, veiler, scrap dragon, pot of duality
My list would be:
1.Invasion of Chaos
2.Duelist Alliance
3.Phantom Darkness
4.Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy
5.Duelist Genesis
I would like wrote see a update to this soon (especially after Raging Tempest.) Maybe after Maximum Crisis.
Maximum Crisis would definitely be up there. It had the main true draco cards (Masterpeace and Dragonic Diagram for example), but it also contained the best hand trap in the game with Ash Blossom. I would also add Code of the Duelist as that set, along with the 2017 starter deck completely changed the game when link monsters were introduced.
Love your choices. I just would of swapped IOC with DUEA.
Magician's Force is near and dear to me. Because in my very first pack, I pulled the Dark Paladin. Granted I couldn't use it for a long time because I didn't have Buster Blader until I traded for a super rare version from one of my cousins. And shout out to Legend of Blue-Eyes (the OG Booster Pack) and Metal Raiders. Granted they had some useless cards (thanks Flower Wolf . . .), but damn are these nostalgic. I miss playing this game.
I like the list I would just swap 1 & 2. IOC in my opinion was responsible for almost killing the game. The amount of good cards that came in that set and the fact that the follow up set to it ancient sanctuary did nothing to help combat the cards from IOC just make it a better set to me then Duelist Alliance. Even though Duelist Alliance is a great set.
Magic Ruler and Photon Shockwave are personal favorites of mine.
GREAT GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!! :D thanks
OCG just got Burning Abyss not too long ago. They only have the 1st wave of cards though. cir, Scarm, Graff, Dante, and the Traveler trap card
kinda makes me sad that duelist revolution and crimson crisis werent given mentions
Um...pardon me...where is Legacy Of The Valiant? LVAL introducted Number 101: Silent Honor ARK. Also it had a lot of other great archtypes: Ghostrics started in it, Vampires got A LOT of excellent cards (Grace, Vamp, Sorcerer and even Kingdom), etc.
I agree with that list. I stopped about when duea dropped ( not because of the set). I wondered if i will start playing again but i already thought that the power creep in duea was immense. So after this video i feel confirmed and i will prabably never be back in this game most likely..actually a shame but what can u do :)
extreme victory aswell tour guide and tengu changed the game t.g stun was good. hell mystic piper was even good fun.
What about Photon Shockwave? It gave us a nasty control deck in Dino Rabbit that dominated for many formats, the XYZs in that set were nuts at the time (zenmaines, laggia, dolkka), and it gave the basis for wind-ups with wind-up hunter and wind-up rabbit. At one point, 4 of the secret rares in the set were worth more than $80 (zenmaines, rescue rabbit, dolkka, and wind-up rabbit)! The decks produced from this only died once they were severely hit! I think this set put XYZs on the map.
Laggia was also $20+ for a very long time
Duelist Alliance was the beginning of the end.
I smell a person with nostalgia goggless on....
You should do a top 10 list on the most revolutionary formats of all time
hay cap thx for useing my idea XD
whats this new yugioh term? power creep?
It took me awile for OP and Broken
Just a great video, you can definetly tell konami put a lot of work and thought into duelist alliance. Keep up the great top 10's!
Honestly this list is pretty solid DREV i think is another honorable mention though, only because it added a few game changing cards, but it wasnt as strong as the rest of these.
Exodia...EXPLODIATE
Invasion of chaos has to be number 1 no question. It literally was so powerful that yugioh was forced to create a banlist, and chaos emperor dragon still stands as the most broken card ever printed. Duelist alliance was definitely hyped but nothing can stand in the way of the big 3 (chaos emperor, BLS and Dark Magician of Chaos) in invasion of chaos
Magic Ruler should have been higher. Cyber Jar was in there as a rare.
Like, it's ridiculous how hard DUEA powercreeped this game. I assure you, we'll never EVER see things like Firefist or Geargia topping again. Konami can't and won't stop the powercreep they started in DUEA, they just have to keep going. And I don't even want to imagine what the state of the game will be in 1 - 2 years.
*ANCIENT SNACTUARY* is surprisingly really _nice & neat_ tbh
You didn't put invasion of chaos on the top spot because of burning abyss? Maybe u forgot all the cards from IOC that we still play today! And the set came out in 2004!!
pitukingo I don't think it was merely because of Burning Abyss....as much as Duelist Alliance resurrected fusions, and brought forward 3 tier one archetypes at the moment of launch. Bringing back a dying/dead summoning method is astounding. Rivaled by Secret Forces, which did a far more impressive job with the Nekroz. It seems Konami is finally learning variety...
I think by default LOB should have been somewhere in there. Its kind of the most important set of all time, unless kick starting the game is not that important.
if only it would contain more than a bunch of useless old vanillas (except Mistic Elf, Dark Magician and BEWD) Exodia pieces that were hard as f#ck to pull, few Dark Hole, Raigeky and Sword of Revealing Light here and there then yeah, it would be important XD
kickstarting the game has to happen eventually. no reason to put it on the list for that. 99% of the monsters are normal monsters. raigeki, exodia, dark hole, pot of greed were epic tho
No Strike of Neos or Storm of Ragnarok as honorable mentions?
For multiple different reasons, but for me:
5. Legacy Of Darkness
4. Cybernetic Revolution
3. Invasion Of Chaos
2. Metal Raiders
1. Magician's Force
I know the video is old and all that but I think Breakers of Shadow and Clash of Rebellions deserved to be here.
Yo Cap, I think this needs an update, maybe even an expansion to top 15!
Now that ARC V and Vrains is done, I think the list could consider BOSH, RATE, MACR, CIBR, FLOD, and ROTD.
I can agree with you that Duelist Alliance is arguably one of the best sets ever for the reason that you stated of how it gave three tier one decks. I don't think The Shining Darkness deserves a spot in the honorable mentions list, I never liked that set very much.
Why not Cybernetic Revolution???
It had incredible HERO support in the form of Miracle Fusion and Bubbleman that basically made HEROs tier 1.
unpopular opinion, but i think Metal Raiders is one of the best yugioh sets.
+Animaniacs11 It is...
it should have been on the list. it introduced crazy cards to the game
+Loq like? other than mirror force
well, i think te secret broken cousin of Card Destruction is there though XD
+lance the dragon master
Solemn Judgement
I thought Metal Raiders was very good, as it introduced things like Solemn Judgment, Change of Heart, and of course, Mirror Force.
Im sorry CapG but duelist revolution to this day still one of the few booster boxes to break over 150 for a box and when it was release you have to think about the key cards that were released and how it affected the meta.... Example
x3warning
x3duelality
x2-3 EV
and to have all these cards in your deck you were looking at over 300 dollars....i believe. This set without. A question. Should be on the list....
it should but it has nothing to do with money lol
true that duelist alliance was hot as hell!
Did I miss order of chaos? It wasn't as broken as some of the other sets, but it has wind-up and inzektors if I'm not mistaken. It atleast deserves an honorable mention.
Um, Infernity's first showed up in Ancient Prophecy. Sure there was only 3 of them, but that archetype didn't start in the Shining Darkness.
Another thing about Duelist Alliance, after that set basically it's nothing but top tier decks topping at events and you barely play against any decks that aren't considered top tier unlike before when there were many rogue decks floating around.
ojasamurai6 Insects also got a boost in alliance with renosance insect. Renosance is really good.
I have never seen anyone play that card ever
Except there were a good chunk of rouge decks. Heroes,Yosenju,Tellarknights and some more.
Yeah but all those decks came out with or after Duelist Alliance :O
Duelist Alliance? Oh whoops just saw it at the end LOL
Ya when DA came out, everyone was like huh? I remember getting 2 deluxe additions and pulling 1 Dante from each, well a lot of the cards paid for themselves and more, plus u had pendulum mechanic, which qlis took and abused. So ya probably never going to see that happen again.
wooh, commenting. You rock Capital G!
what about imvasion of vengeance, thats like duelist alliance bringing support to yang zing, tellarknight shaddolls and qlis and we get starve venom
the shin chan reference always gets me T_T
Older sets. Mostly all holos were useful. It was a great time.
im a little bit disappointing pharonic guardian didn't make this top ten list or at leas honorable mention, it holds the first true archtype of the game gravekeepers not to mention you had cards like reckless greed, book of moon, ring of destruction, terra forming, reasoning and lava golem
I knew you were gonna pick Duelist Alliance.
Now its going to be breaker of Shadows XD
Yugitubers should discuss more of yugioh problems as a whole to influence people so maybe konami could get their shit right.
I would of put metal raiders or legend of blue eyes as number 2 instead of invasion of chaos
metal raiders is good. lob introduced the game oke..but thats normal if its the first set ever lol. no reason yet to put it on the list. lob only had amazing ultra cards. rest of the set was bad very bad. 99% of the monsters are normal monsters
