When Lionel Barker, a former suitor of Morticia's, shows up, Gomez is jealous. But he's soon calmed when he learns that Barker is after Mildred, the new maid. The Addamses then discover that Barker is a con man--after Mildred's money, not her love.

I don't blame Gomez for worrying about somebody taking Morticia from him she's incredibly beautiful and fun loving what's not to love.
In one episode you might even say she’s smokin’.
@@jwr7138 That was the honeymoon neighbors episode! ;) Too bad she was hurt by the show ending so soon. Weird husband kept her holed up in Palm Springs 7 years
They are the perfect couple

If anyone is confused, in this Series Uncle Fester is Mortica’s Uncle, but in the Movies he is Gomez Brother.
Uncle Fester being Gomez's brother was first changed in the animated series from the 70s I don't know why.
Imogen Onscreen Oh that’s interesting, I’ve never watched the 70’s animated version so I didn’t know that thanks for the info. :)
Wait, that can't be right. He calls Gomez his favorite nephew, so he must be Gomez's uncle, right?
Or is this a list of American family tree lingers, which I still do not understand, like; cousins three times removed?
Iris Ravenhild My best guess is he calls Gomez his favourite Nephew and just decides to ignore the in-law part, but he is definitely Mortica’s Uncle.
Renee O No Problem :)
Even when MORTICIA thinks her husband is cheating on her, she doesn’t choose violence. Let that sink in...
He would enjoy the violence too much
Why would she choose violence though? She loves him and when you love and respect someone and are a decent human being you don’t!
@@prettyinpinky5937 exactly ^~^

Even though it's all a misunderstanding, you have to admire Gomez and Morticia for handling their relationship issues more maturely than couples of today do.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It’s not a today thing though. There have been bad relationships and immature people all throughout history. Only difference is before women couldn’t just leave cause they weren’t allowed to hold jobs outside the home or own anything and they stayed to be beaten and abused.
@@prettyinpinky5937 Stayed home to be beaten and abused?, my god you are ignorant. This is highly insulting to all the skilled and intelligent women throughout history. Most men don't beat their wives, regardless of time period.
Suicide? That's not what I would consider a mature way of handling the situation
@@prettyinpinky5937
There were female blacksmiths in the middle ages, dude. What an ignorant thing to say. Most women back then preferred to be stay at home wives and mothers because it was the safest place for them and there was/is not a thing wrong with that. We tend to forget how dangerous and dirty the world can be in our relatively sheltered western countries.
It's also a mistake to judge the past based on what women say they want today.
The irony of this storyline, like so many Addams storylines, is that if the interloper into the Addams house just *asked* for a loan, say, or a favour- it'd be granted! The Addams are totally generous, kind, good-natured, and yet people always try to get one over on them (and of course, the Addams always unwittingly come out on top!)
Yep. The Addamses are the furthest thing from stingy. And they're fabulously loaded.
In the movie we got to see the money vault below the house with near-infinite stacks of gold.
"Hey Gomez, can I please borrow like a million dollars? I promise to pay you back, unless I turn evil and keep it for myself or use it to build an elaborate trap for my enemies."
"Why certainly. Do you think a million is enough?"
"I think so. Why do you ask?"
"I don't know how many enemies you have."
"You're right Gomez. Better make it 3 million."

Carolyn Jones and John Astin were superbly cast in their roles, and did a fine job as the macabre pair. She was beautiful and he's really handsome. None of the other versions can hold a candle to the originals. And Ted Cassidy with that voice, this role was meant for him. You rang? Epic!
Now now, Raul Julia, I think the name is, from the movies was a fantastic Gomez. He even sounds like someone named "Gomez".
BWMagus He was great too - but who could be better than John Astin? His face, charisma and timing still impress, all this time later. All the adult leads are perfectly cast in this series...
How about the other people who have played Gomez and Morticia?
Bunni Armani they all seemed to actually love each other
This episode was superb, with one exception. I thought there was a running gag that Gomez's cigars were always lit. Even when they were in his pocket. I recall one episode where he opens a safe after several years and pulls out a lit cigar. But in the shooting scene, this wasn't the case.

man, your experiences aren’t universal, but god I wish they were.
Can't say the same for my parents. They divorced when I was just 3 years old. I was so young that I don't remember anything about it and grew up used to Mom and Dad living separate lives from each other. I never really knew or remembered what it's like to have that complete family unit. I sometimes wonder if that had any influence on my decision to not have a family of my own. Never desired that for myself.
I love how Lurch said sorry because Gomez was doomed to live. Such a classic moment

But though I hoped my whole life, I never met a Gomez.
I so loved this as a boy. Looking back--I'm 66 now--this was a deeply healthy show for me. My papa and mama were extremely violent, Latinx. I was usually hurting, confused. This show comforted me. They don't write or make good clean family shows like this any more. Very humorous, entertaining and fun. The peak of the creative era.
Too true.
On the TV series..Grandmama is Gomez's mother.....Morticias mom is Hester Frump , Hester is Uncle Fester's sister.
For the movies, they made Fester, Gomez's brother and Grandmama Morticia's mother.
I was wondering about that.. I mean I have watched this tv show before but it was a long time ago when there was a tv channel dedicated to old tv shows when i was quite a bit younger. I loved the movies too but i guess I kept that lore in mind and forgotten about the tv show lore. So I was surprised when Fester called Gomez his nephew.
The movies' family tree makes more sense, imo.
And Morticia's mom in the series was played by Margaret Hamilton, the original Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz! I wish she had guest-starred in more episodes -- she was in about two -- or even been made a series regular!!

The cartoonist Charles Addams was a genius to creating the macabre world of his Addams Family. I have his original comic books of the same. I love his sense of humor and the Addams family. 17:13-17:19 I don’t think I’ve EVER heard a sitcom say the word “suicide” before. But I’m glad Gomez thinks it’s not a good idea
It was definitely a different time; TV standards and practices allowed for a few things that would not be acceptable for family programming nowadays, such as talk of, or actually depicting, attempted suicide. Still, just as with all of this series, it was comically handled, and classic!
Randi Lacey - Were there things back then that wasn’t allowed to be on TV or even mentioned, but is now allowed in modern days?

Ok, the actress who played Grandmama in this was named Blossom Rock which is, and this is true, one of the greatest names ever. I'm surprised this isn't talked about more.
Grandmama comes by her real name legitimately. Blossom was one of her middle names and she was married to Clarence Rock. Also her younger sister was Jeannette McDonald, a singer and actress from way back.

And you can find her in plenty of old movies, including the old Dr. Kildare series with Lew Ayres and Lionel Barrymore.
Lurch was the only one in the cast that had duel roles on each episode as he also did "thing" unless the scene called for both him and thing to be seen at the same time and in that case a stagehand would do the scene as "thing"

Good old Lurch. A true romantic.
Overdubbing fail on Morticia at 4:48. It is so "Addams Family" to refer to well behaved children as "little devils" instead of "little angels". It is also so 60's TV censors not to allow that joke on air. Nice how they left just the slightest touch of the leading d-sound in there and made the overdub so obviously bad that the joke still shines through while still being able to claim that they actually took it out. "No you see, we took it out. It's just bad because we had to do it in a rush, promise." I really appreciated that insolence.
