Fred was an incredibly talented man. Harvard educated, classicly trained actor, singer, songwriter, poet, as well as painter, illustrator, and writer of numerous children's books. He was considered one of the most genuine and kind people in Hollywood during his career.
To play Herman, he had to wear 40-50 lbs of padding, makeup, and 5 inch platform shoes. Fred made it look so easy. He had such wonderful comedic timing.

The best episode was when Herman thought Lily was going to have a baby, and Eddie and his friend were playing behind the couch and his friend had a little doll that looked like Herman and Herman saw it walking around the couch and he thought that it was a little baby Herman, that was mad funny to the max!!!!

I remember when this was rerun on Nick at nite in the early 90s I was in middle school, I'm 47 now. With Dennis the menus, leave it to Beaver, and so on it was a summer marathon years ago. Thanks for the laugh. Comedy gold.😂

Fred Gwynne was a Harvard graduate who was multi-talented in many areas. Here you can tell he had some guitar playing ability forming bar chords! Too bad the role of Herman Munster typecasted him and kept many from realizing the incredible person he was!!
