Growing up in the NY/NJ area during the 1980's, one of the best hours on TV were 11pm to Midnight on channel 11 WPIX. More like no rehearsal. Jackie would just glance at the script and go live: "Every man for himself!" Audrey Meadows was always scared stiff, but you'd never know it.
From what I've read and seen, even though it was live-to-air, Gleason wanted the cast to not worry if they occasionally missed a cue or blew a line. He said real-life conversations are never word-perfect or neatly synchronized, so they shouldn't aim for perfection. To that end, he preferred for the cast to be under rehearsed rather than over rehearsed so that there was always room for spontaneity.
Saw all these episodes in living "black and white" every Saturday night while dad shined our shoes and sister in curlers after our baths to prepare us for Sunday morning church. Loved them then and more now. Seen them so many times I can say their lines along with them.
Jackie Gleason and art Carney were a great team both had. a true talent for comedy and true icons.a true classic is when you keep watching and never get sick of them. May they rip.
This comedy is classic. It stands up extremely well even today which is about 70 years since these episodes were made. Jackie Gleason was fabulous and Art Carney was fabulous how he played the 'idiot'. Comedy gold!
He says “ let me show you the results of a misspent youth “ is a reference it a mark twain quote. A “ proficiency in pool is a sine of a misspent youth “

Old black and white classics from the golden age of entertainment, simply the best!
Did you know I have a video on this on my channel about there being a Mandela / quantum effect in it? The line was " I'll twist him into a pretzel" not bend. That's why Norton says " I'm not the one who said I'll twist you into a pretzel he did' My Sister and I are huge fans and we knew it was "twist" See, first he says "twist" into bookends and then he used to say "twist" him into a Pretzel. That's what happens when Scientists at CERN and D Wave mess with the quantum filed.
Jackie Gleason: "The Honeymooners lasted as long as it did, because it was funny." How true! He ended the series after the famous 37 because he felt that the material was getting thin, they were running out of ideas, and he didn't want to cheapen it. Absollute classics!

@@reyshielharding3987 Seems like i remember seeing him in an episode of Gunsmoke but I can't remember the name of the episode.
@@giraffesareselfish9563 Hello Cat! I remember that episode too, with close to 500 GUNSMOKE episodes to recall, it is not easy. Thanks Cat for your comment.......
@@reyshielharding3987 I agree, they do tend to run together. It's difficult to find Gunsmoke episodes. Paramount+ has a few seasons, 7 I think, but they are all Chester episodes, which are good, but not enough.
One of the greatest comedy duos in history, was Carney and Gleason. Comic genius, right up there with Laurel and Hardy and Chaplin.
Don't forget Betty White and Bea Arthur.
Yep! And Gleason was a devoted fan of Oliver Hardy and paid homage to him from time to time. Check out 22:20 and the way he says, "I certainly do!"
don't forget the three stooges
🤪😵🥴

@@inthenameofthefather.7240 Yeah. I agree. The 3 Stooges were definitely another great comedy duo!
Classic wholesome comedy in about 25 minutes. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thumbs up Golden Age Cinema.
Great LIVE performers with almost no rehearsal. This kind of talent is greatly missed.
I have heard that the cast did rehearse, except for Gleason. He said he wanted it to be fresh for filming. Another reason he's The Great One.
Great episode.Har. veeey! Thanks for posting this!
5:26 "Harvey!, oooohhhh Harvey!.... I got a friend named Shirley that's bigger than you!" 😂😂😂😂
One of the greatest shows ever
Probably one of the greatest shows of all time, it may be dated, but it's comedy gold..!!
The Honeymooners IS Not Dated
The Honeymooners IS TIMELESS
Saw all these episodes in living "black and white" every Saturday night while dad shined our shoes and sister in curlers after our baths to prepare us for Sunday morning church. Loved them then and more now. Seen them so many times I can say their lines along with them.
the curlers...and the hair net over them!! oh yeah...!!
“We tossed a kern.”
One of the funniest episode ever. Harvy.
The audience applaud as each cast member appears....in the early episodes, Carney was the 1st to get applause when he appeared...😄
Same thing with Kramer on Seinfeld.
Nothing beats the Honeymooners. To not hear the theme song is a crime. And the Jackie Gleason Orchestra is wonderful music as well.
All in the family is the only better sitcom!
Yes, I was looking forward to that. I missed it.
This is one of the best episodes of the honeymooners. I used to watch it every night 🌙 when they played 2 episodes a night.
“A uhhh Ralph he’s even bigger than your friend Shirley”
💀
I'm not the one who said ide twist ya into a pretzel, he did!
😆 lol
Jackie Gleason and art Carney were a great team both had. a true talent for comedy and true icons.a true classic is when you keep watching and never get sick of them. May they rip.
" toss a kern" 🤣
Simply the GREATEST of all time! Nothing more to say.
This comedy is classic. It stands up extremely well even today which is about 70 years since these episodes were made. Jackie Gleason was fabulous and Art Carney was fabulous how he played the 'idiot'. Comedy gold!
One of the few episodes where Ralph and Norton's scheme actually worked.
Not exactly but it worked 🤣
What a classic man my friend Harvey
A classic own the DVD collection and watch them over and over. I know the jokes coming and still laugh.
Hamina, Hamina, Hamina.. gets me all the time 🤣🤣🤣
For those who might not know, Gleason was a superb pool player.
He really was! And he started as a boy in the 1920s.
He says “ let me show you the results of a misspent youth “ is a reference it a mark twain quote.
A “ proficiency in pool is a sine of a misspent youth “
I hear yes he was good in movie hustler movie
Jackie Gleason was super great actor yes Norton was great too both so funny
He played Minnesota Fats in The Hustler with Paul Newman.
Harvey is a lovely name
Classic. Love the honeymooners. Still laugh at this even tho I know the show word for word. This show CAN never die
CAN?
First time I saw this the ending was unsuspecting and hilarious!
I bought the box set for my hometheatre, library.
Watched this rerun as a child with many family members now sadly gone, relieving those times through these classics, thanks for the upload.
@@QuantumEffectResidue Um, er, yeah right, I was just about to post the same thing.
Pure Comedy. top shelf !!!
Love the blooper Harvey makes in this scene with his hands
Jackie Gleason: "The Honeymooners lasted as long as it did, because it was funny." How true! He ended the series after the famous 37 because he felt that the material was getting thin, they were running out of ideas, and he didn't want to cheapen it. Absollute classics!
I will always LUV this show. I have the dvd set. 💗
This is one of my favorite episodes. Very special to me. One of my best friends dad is in this episode. He played George. We watched this together when I was at my buddy's house. We were both students at the High school of Performing Arts in NY at the time. It was really inspiring to see what a great actor could do.
Did he really talk like that in real life?
@@beani24329 lololololol! Not at all. He was a great actor. He did a good deal of Broadway. If you look him up on IMDB, you'll see him on "The Twilight Zone" as a NASA engineer!
Great actor, great guy!
@@brentcarterandfriends What's his real name?
@@lydialilli4351 Leslie Barrett
@@brentcarterandfriends Yeah, I remember him. I didn't like the way Ralph put him down at the beginning. He acted the asshole here.
This is definitely my favorite episode 🤣 😭 😂 😍
I had a 13" Sylvania that needed pliers to change the channel...how I miss those simpler times!
I miss those times, but Iove my big color TV
And a coat hanger for a antenna.
If I tell you for years now I don’t ever go to sleep without watching at least 2 hours of the honeymooners you’ll think I’m lying but then again I’m sure most of you that love that show as much as I do Will believe me .just love it .
