  • Adjusting Shower Max Temp - Delta Dryden Monitor 17 Series
    This Trim Kit: amzn.to/2vJVjjo
    Showing how to adjust your max water temperature for this particular trim kit. Rotating the stop limiter more towards the "H" gets you more hot water in the mix. This in theory may make your coldest temp warmer, but I rarely want to take a cold shower anyway.
    This particular trim kit makes it very easy to adjust the max temp as opposed to some other trim kits I've installed.

I only had to surf around a bit to find out how to remove our hot/cold handle as there is no setscrew (I had to pry it off with a couple of screwdrivers) but your video explained how all the internal parts work together! Thanks for sharing. Generally as long as the valve is working correctly you can scald yourself. Sometimes they have internal leaks or obstructions so they don’t get the full flow even if you set the temp way up.

    Maybe you won't see this comment, but did you ever run into the situation where the hot water FLOW was terribly low?
    I tested the hot water pressure coming through the brass rough diverter without any of the handle hardware inserted and the pressure is absolutely there (it made a mess it blasted out so strongly), but no matter what orientation I try with the rest of the valve assembly, the hot water trickles out. The cold water is fine. I tried adjusting the hot/cold stopper. I've tried rotating the inner valve in every direction I could, as long as the two little keyed triangles slot in properly to no avail.
    Any ideas?

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  Před 3 lety +1

      I’m not entirely sure. I haven’t experience that in a tub/shower valve, but our sink valve is like that. Always has been since install. I assumed the pex supply line got kinked, or maybe obstructed during construction or something, but in all my little investigations I’ve never found either to be true for sure. I’ve actually looked at the line from the manifold to the kitchen sink and it appears not kinked, but I’ve never taken apart under the sink to check that something wasn’t lodged in there. If you have steady high pressure to the mixing valve then it must be in the cartridge itself. I’ve had my cartridges go “bad” where suddenly the water wouldn’t get as hot.

    • @ValFckGoogle
      @ValFckGoogle Před 3 lety +2

      @@TomBrueggen I'm amazed you found this comment and replied. Thank you kindly for that. As for the problem, I ended up scouring the internet and found a plumber's forum where people complained about this issue. I figured it out:
      There is some device inside of the cartridge called the "pressure balancing spool." This little piece of garbage was apparently (in THREE separate Delta kits I bought) "stuck" inside of the cartridge. This can supposedly happen if you turn on only one water source (hot/cold). The pressure from the water can jam the badly engineered spool inside, thereby blocking water flow permanently from the other side. The fix was to take the cartridge out and just tap it against the wall. I immediately felt and heard the spool free itself, installed it back into the wall and voila, problem fixed. Unreal.
      Delta engineers should be ashamed for this piss-poor engineering. I spent many, many frustrating and wet hours trying to figure this out.

      @@ValFckGoogle well I’m happy you fixed it! And that’s good to know in case mine does it. We used to have silt in our water and had at least one or two cartridges act up during that time. I figured the silt was just plugging them so I just threw them away and got a new one

  • @ds61821

    Question: Can I just eliminate the regulator stop altogether? I put the stop to what should be the position for the hottest setting and the water never gets anywhere near uncomfortable. Other faucets in the house can almost be scalding. The Delta faucet gets just past lukewarm. So, can I just remove the stop?

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  Před 3 lety

      Mine can all adjust to scalding, but I’ve had the cartridges sometimes malfunction internally not get full hot like you said. I replaced the cartridge and had full hot again. It’s like it gets obstructed inside so even though you adjust it’ll not fully flow from the hot side

    • @ds61821

      @@TomBrueggen My version might be different. I had the plumber install these and he asked me how I wanted the stop and explained it. I said I wanted the full range so I could decide how hot. But I was not satisfied so opened it up and looked at the directions and readjusted it--looking for the C and H as you mention. It is better and I think I just need to have the shower running longer before getting in than I think I'm used to. I've had it for a little over a month. I was just wondering too what would happen if I just pulled that plastic stop out and put the handle back on. Would I then get the full range of temperatures? I haven't had time to do that since writing my question. Thanks, Tom! I appreciate you reply.

      Sounds like something inside the cartridge is washed out. You should be able to obtain a replacement cartridge for about $25 and it’s virtually plug and play. I’ve had a few cartridges act funny and I don’t even bother to try and reseal them. Just get a new one and toss the old one

    A customer of mine said she wasnt getting hot enough water out of her shower. It was a Delta very similar same principle and it was adjusted all the way as hot as it would go . I fooled around with that thing for 30 min trying all kinds of different positions and could never get it any more than luke warm. I think the cartridge had become defective. I watch you tube videos and she had the original instructions. There is only one way these things can go and it just wasnt gonna get any hotter. I told her to call the plumber who installed it.

      I just replaced my cartridge and now the water isn’t getting hot enough and the water pressure seems worse. It looks like the temp control is set to the hottest setting based on how far the handle goes to the hot side. I have no idea what else to try to get the water hotter and the pressure back to where it was before I replaced the cartridge.

    Can I leave the limiter off to get full range and temp?

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  Před 6 lety +1

      I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but I don't think so, or I don't think it would really do any good. I'm not the expert on how these valves work really, but my understanding is that you have 100% of the flow at all times. It's just always a blend of hot or cold. So it's not like at full hot you are still running only 80% of the hot open.
      I guess you can try, and let us all know. As it is, when I crank my shower to full hot, it's enough to scald me and make me uncomfortable. So I don't see any need to try and get any more than that.

      Probably the mixing valve has failed internally. Despite your settings, it’s still not fully moving to hot. I recently replaced the mixing valve in our second bath because of this. Full hot setting and water was quite cool still. A replacement cartridge is around $20.

      It still just doesn’t make sense that every other tap is hot but this one. It’s got to be the valve. You can test by pulling all the guts out of the valve (water supply off), then restore hot water supply to see if it’s full hot. That would confirm it.
