as someone who has lived in alaska for most of their life, i never expected a video from alaska in my recommended
cool video
Love your Alaska videos. Iâve lived in AK since 1977 and have hiked many of your your hikes over the years and loved them all. Reed Lakes was my favorite one of all. My wifeâs motto is âIf you wait for good weather, you will never go anywhere.â
That's a good motto! Goes with, "there is no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate clothing"
These trails in Hatcher Pass are INSANE!
Yes they are! They are must visit!
Love the waterfall below the second lake...
Iâm so glad Kona got to enjoy some outdoors!
She got to do toooons in Alaska đ
Don't feel alone, Adam and Katherine, on running out of adjectives, I will just say beautiful. What a memorable trip you guys are having.
It was the best adventure weâve been on yet! Thank you!
My wife and I started following you before our trip to Wasilla to see friends, and loved the advice and guidance you both gave. It really made our Alaska trip magical! We especially loved Hatcher Pass. We hiked exactly where you were and had an amazing day. God bless you on your travels and we look forward to seeing more of your adventures!
That's awesome! We're glad to hear that. Hatcher Pass is one of our favorite places we visited in Alaska! Thanks and thanks for watching!
All these hikes are mind blowing. They all look like you're on the top of a Colorado 14'er surrounded by jagged, craggy peaks. Love it!
Yes it reminded us of that too!
One word describes today's video-SPECTACULAR !!! đ€đ€
Wahoo!
Seeing your video's gets me SO EXCITED to go to Alaska next July!! Your video's are TOP NOTCH quality! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to film the BEAUTIFUL state of Alaska on all your travels! Keep up the GREAT work you two! Much respect and support from Yuma, AZ. đđ
I am from Yuma but live in Buckeye, AZ now. The scenery looks so heavenly compared to what we have had to look at this Summer. I need to get up to Alaska someday.
@@Ostrom38 It's pretty sad seeing nothing but brown.. LOL
Thank you so much! Let us know if you have any questions about Alaska!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Let me know how to get in touch with you guy's! Gonna be planning a week's vacation. Gonna have Anchorage for home base.. Wanna see Denali, Valdez, Kenai fjords, possibly go to Homer.. LOL
It's hard to imagine such clear water!!! Beautiful!!! I love how jagged the mountains are! Congrats on your đŁ catch!! I enjoy visiting historic sites with buildings or remnants of buildings as well, history is so important! What a fancy laundromat! Sounds like it's time to soak in a hot tub!! See ya on the next vlog!
The history is so fun to learn and explore! Thanks for watching!
We visited independence mine with 59 of our cousins in 1990. Later, it became a state park and they have certainly made a lot of renovations for the buildings and provided a lot more information than we were able to read about. Thanks for all the photographs you took I make screen copies so I can read and spend a little more time to hear the read the history.
59 cousinsâŠ.holy cow! Itâs a fascinating park. Thanks for watching!
Have been watching all of you Alaska videos, simply spectacular views. Thank you for sharing your many adventures
It was a dream trip! Thanks for watching!
If travels ever bring you back to Missouri, Bonne Terre Mine is a neat place. You can actually scuba dive in the mine⊠or just take a boat ride underground like we did!! These videos make me so excited to see Alaska someday!! đđ
Oh how cool! We'll have to look into that for next time!
Breathtaking
You guys are a riot :- ) Love all your reporting. Dang, it's time for an old fart to get back out there and do some roaming around. Thanks you so much for the motivation.
Get out there! Thanks for your comments and for watching!
When you said they ate like kings, you weren't kidding. They were well taken care of. Probably made good money too? Hard work. Loved the scenery. Beautiful there in Alaska.
Ya it was a good idea to feed and pay them so well. Hard workers could be hard to come by Iâm sure!
What an amazing hike. I loved the mine, so interesting. Beautiful, thank you for sharing. Take care, be safe.
We love exploring mines! Thanks and thanks for watching!
The highlight of this video was seeing the excitement of a boy catching his first fish. Congratulations. It's an awesome feeling. Thanks for such a wonderful job on your coverage of Alaska. We are really enjoying this series.
I couldn't believe it! It's a moment I'll never forget. Thank you, Bob!
Absolutely stunning, as always!!!
Thank you!
Wow, so incredible! Thanks for bringing us with and congrats to Adam on catching his first fish.
Thank you! đđ
I live in the valley and love Hatcher Pass so much I named my dog HatcherâŠawesome video!
That's a great name for a dog! Thank you and thanks for watching!
I can't believe you found a way to get Alaska all to yourselves! đđđ
The key is get up early and selective camera angles đđ
Fun story, me and a group of friends in the winter would go out to Hatchers on Sunday's when we had time to do road runs with snowboards. We would take turns driving up and down picking everyone up at the bottom. Is a spot near the top to drop off and you snowboard back down to another area after the road dog legs at the bottom. We called it going to church. đ
That would be an intense ride down! Thatâs a steep road!
Hello Adventurersđđ, yet another awesome mountain pass...this place is AMAZING! I really get a kick checking out these old buildings...kinda reminds me of Old Trail Town in Cody,WY. OUTSTANDING VIDEOđđđđ!
That place looks really neat! Weâll have to check that out sometime! Thanks for the rec!
Hatcher Pass really is amazing! Thereâs tons to do out there! Thanks!

wow, totally enjoyed this last segmentl. great scenery and hiking. appears kona enjoyed as well. congrats on your fish catch. thank you both. time to rest. until your next adventure
We all had a ball! Thanks and thanks for watching!
There seems like there is a lot to do there and so many hiking options! I would want to see as much of that scenery as possible if I were there - so wonderful!
Yes there is! It easily deserves multiple days!
Another beautiful video! 30 miles you guys deserved the ice cream for sure! Love the drone shots. Congratulations on your rainbow trout! ~Cara đ
It was so fun catching that trout! I couldnât believe it! We definitely treated ourselves after that adventure!
In 1978, I was stationed in Anchorage. My wife and I along with our 2 year old sun drove over Hatcher Pass going from Palmer to Willow. It was literally a gravel path and we were in our compact Dodge Omni. No, it wasn't all wheel drive. Hatcher Pass is the most beautiful spot on earth. I hope to return some day.
Hatcher Pass is a dream!
Beautiful video đžđž gorgeous scenery!!!! Safe travels!!
Thanks, Kathy!
Love your videos you do some amazing hikes my husband and I watch all your videos so we know where to hike we love going place like this and hike thank you for all your videos.
Thatâs awesome! Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
The last few stops have been incredible. The drone shots are next level! You've stepped it up like a thousand notches. Great work y'all đ
Thank you!
Wonderful video. Kudos to Kona - and you - for handling those huge boulders. Appreciate your enthusiasm for and excellent coverage of my home state. Bet you all slept well after those hikes.
Yes we slept really well after those few days in Hatcher Pass! It is one of our favorite areas that we visited. Thanks and thanks for watching!
thanks A+K
Oh so beautifulâŁïžLoved Adamâs pure excitement when he caught the rainbow troutâŠso dang cuuute! Seeing Kona swimming in the water was also so cute!!! Did Adam fall back into the water? Canât forget the food and ice creamâŠđđđ! Keep up the dancingâŠmakes me smile every timeâŁïžSafe travels you three!
I couldnât believe I caught that fish! Kona had a blast! Yes I did slip back into the water a bit đ it was a downward slope to the water
Thank you! â€ïžâ€ïž
You were in my hometown of Wasilla, so close!!! Hatcher Pass is one of my favorite places to go for a day drive, always spectacular and green! You are showing hikes to areas I didnât even know about, will have to try them. Congrats Adam, on catching a fish!!! Yahooooo!!!! And, it is STILL raining, set all kinds of records for most consecutive rainy days and rainfall. Now have termination dust (snow) on the mountains, our summer is officially over, sadly. Keep up the best videos ever!!!!! Love you guys!!! âŠ.Kim
We experienced a lot of that rain! Luckily we had great weather when we really needed it! Hatcher Pass is an unforgettable place!
Such a great spot with the beaver swimming across the water. You guys are becoming quite the nature spotters without the need for a guide! Loved the marmot screaming at you guys (okay, probably not, and instead a mate, but y'know!) I'm with you guys on saying if you could only do one of the 2 hikes from this video and your last one to do this one - I imagine I would enjoy this trail significantly more, and the reward of the gorgeous blue lake was perfect I still can't get over how great sports you were last time around, even before you got to the prize of the lakes!!
Those beavers were so cool to see! This was an incredible hike!
YAY! Adam caught a rainbow. You guys are going to have a hard time getting excited about the lower 48 after all the cool stuff you have seen in Alaska.
Yaaaa weâre worried about that! đ Weâve got a lot of fun stuff planned in the lower 48 weâre excited about though!
Hatcher Pass is beautiful in all seasons. In the winter it is a good spot to aurora viewing since there are few lights in the area. Another great thing to remember about all the trails in Hatcher Pass is how easy they are to get to. This area is just a short 15-20 min drive from Wasilla or Palmer to get to the lower trails. I live about 10 miles away.
Oh ya we'd love to be out there to scope out the Northern Lights! We loved how accessible Hatcher Pass was!
Hope you made it to Kennicott mine and McCarthy. That mine and town is a hidden gem.
Stay tuned!
You guys so wonderful. Be safety and great times. Stop by Fairbanks,China Hot Spring and North Pole etc...!!!đđđ
We werenât able to make it up there on this trip. Just ran out of time. Next time! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Wow - those waterfalls on the trails are spectacular!! So, how cold was that water you dunked your head into?? Glad you got a fish!!!!! And keep creeping in windows....where you're allowed to! ;)
It was very cold! It was a warm day so it felt really refreshing. I really wanted to swim in it, but we had to keep moving. Weâll keep creeping! đłđ
Gorgeous scenery. Wondering where you guys go next. Fairbanks or east towards Wrangell- St.Elias. looking forward to it!
We werenât able to make it to Fairbanks on this trip, but we had a great time at Wrangell! Stay tuned!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Will do and looking forward to it!
I hope your enjoyed the Hatcherâs pass adventure me. I went there I knocked on that door in recorded it some times the passed answers see something move or knock back.
Beautiful you 2! Loved the music choices in this one and the pure happiness as always. I want to go here so bad!!!! Also, I love how you crank out 9 mile hikes like it's nothing now. Do you feel as though your endurance is just climbing and climbing the longer you've been doing the van life?
Thank you! Hatcher Pass is amazing and is a must visit!
We had been doing a lot of hiking so I think our endurance was built up. But when the scenery is that good the miles fly by!
Iâve been to Hatcher Pass and Independence Mine before but I made a mistake of being there just for an afternoon and this place certainly needs a longer visits than just an afternoon. They have really improved the area, at the time I was there it seems there were a few more old buildings maybe some had collapsed and I got some epic pictures of old buildings with the patches of fog.
You got a marmot call recorded, once I was just a few feet from one of those when it screamed and it was so loud. Really epic pictures you took here.
Yes we agree, Hatcher Pass deserves at least a couple days. The Independence Mine had lots of building and lots to explore! Those marmots can really startle you! đ
@@AdventuresofAplusK I did find pictures of Independence Mine and some of the buildings have collapsed but what was startling was seeing the picture of Portage Glacier going right into that little lake with big blue ice right there from the 90âs. That glacier is almost gone now and I see someone elseâs videos of the Columbia Ice Field in Canada with the same thing, glaciers way back from where they once where and really not that long ago.
I'm pretty lucky, Hatcher Pass is quite literally in my back yard, well, maybe 5 miles :)
Yes you are lucky!
it's so remote, no other people
It's never like that!
We try to get up early and get an early start on these busy trails!
love love love your adventures in Alaska!! (this is random since I know its been a while.. but can you tell me what brand your 2 person inflatable kayak is? I'm finally ready to get one đ).. thank you and happy trails!!
It's an Intex Challenger K2!
Wow - this video makes me love my past experience of Hatcher Pass even more! I did both Reed Lakes and everything around Independence Mine on July 12 (two months ago tomorrow), which brought me to the end of hiking 102 miles in Alaska in 10 days. (By the way, thank you for that affirmation on choosing Reed Lakes over Gold Mint!) For me, the weather was dystopian and my legs were starting to feel it. However, everything you said about the beauty of the area was spot on - and you had fantastic weather! There were little things that kept me going. Your first response to Lower Reed Lake after all the boulders was just like mine. The lake is even more amazing because of all the work to get there. I had not seen anyone else on the Reed Lakes Trail until Upper Reed Lake when another hiker saw my hat and excitedly said, "Detroit Tigers?!" (I represent the Motor City wherever I go.) We were both from suburban Detroit, which made it amazing to be running into another Michigander so far away! On the Gold Cord Trail, a mom asked me if I had a first aid kit since her son had cut open his hand, and I was very glad I took the A+K advice on first aid kits. Since I have all the equipment and look like I know what I'm doing, people will be looking to me for this, so I'm glad I've been following your lead. Thank you for the callback to your most underrated and underviewed video of all time (in my book): the Keweenaw Peninsula video! Again, I'm so happy to see your work in Hatcher Pass, and I'm looking forward to what you found going east!
102 miles in 10 days! Wow way to go! We loved both hikes but the overall hiking experience was MUCH more enjoyable on the Reed Lakes Trail!
Thatâs funny about seeing another person from Detroit! Itâs always fun to see someone from your town so far away. Good job on having the first aid kit! You truly never know when you might need it?
Ps I miss AJ Hinch! I hope he can be successful in Detroit!
Thank you! As always, much of what I've done I've learned by watching you. I appreciate all the things you share about hiking. Totally agree - it's awesome when you see your hometown people so far away. I was running into Michiganders everywhere in Alaska. My Kenai Fjords boat tour was filled with Michigan people. All of us Detroiters are forever starving to see mountains!
P.S. We really, really miss Mr. Verlander! Our general manager was let go this year, and everyone talked about how we didn't get enough when we traded JV to the 'Stros. That said, if the Tigers can't do anything, I'm happy to root for H-Town since I once lived there for two years. I'm afraid to say AJ is all we have going for us right now!
One thing Iâve noticed in all our travels is that Michiganders travel well! I see them everywhere!
Weâre glad we can share our adventures and help people along the way!
Thatâs refreshing to hear! Itâs usually Houston hate. Mr. Verlander is crushing it. I really really hope they can convince him to stay a couple more years after this year! Hopefully the Tigers can right the ship soon!
We Michiganders get around! No doubt a lot of us are watching your videos.
You'll never see Houston hate from me! I lived in the Galleria neighborhood, as well as Midtown, and I had a great time there. I think I've heard before that JV wants to pitch until 45 (kind of like Nolan Ryan), so he might have a number more years. He'd probably be tempted to come back to Detroit if the Tigers were good, but we just have way too far to go to get back in contention.
Thatâs good! Most people hear Astros and instantly start hating. We love visiting the Heights when we go to Houston to see family. Thereâs so much good food all over the city too
Yes Iâm just scared heâll want to go to the Yankees or something. I would be very disappointed!
Another cool video! What to the beavers use to build their dams in the tundra? Mud & twigs?
Iâm not sure but that sounds right! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Loving this entire Alaska adventure. Looks like the weather could not have been more perfect for this hike! Super nerd question here: do you guys film everything at 60fps and just drop the frame rate in editing to get the slow mo shots or are you actively switching settings while out filming? (I did this on my last trip and found it cumbersome, so Iâm wondering what your method is. :) )
Hi! Thatâs a great question! For ânormalâ speed we shoot at 24 fps and slo no is 120 fps. On our camera (Sony FX3) weâre able to set up custom modes to those settings and easily switch between them. So itâs quick and easy to switch in the moment!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Thanks! Iâll have to look into programming a quick button on my camera. Itâd be much easier than fumbling through the menus every time. :)
Itâs hard to tell from the continuity of your shoots but do you guys take days off to chill and rest up? I know on my longer trips if I donât I start get to the point I just want to go home . But Iâm a lot older than you two and donât travel as many weeks as you . Great episode
We do have days in between videos. Those days are usually spent editing and uploading the videosâŠand a little bit of rest. Thank you!
I was there dude

What was the name of that great laundromat??? We are plotting a trip to AK next summer. Enjoying your informative and beautiful videos.
Quantum Laundry! Best laundromat ever! Thanks and thanks for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Thanks! I am bookmarking it for our trip.
Wow, you definitely got to enjoy Hatcher Pass for several hikes. We went yesterday and there is already snow.
No idea how you got footage of Reed Lakes without tons of people.
Yay for Adam catching a rainbow trout.
Never seen a tourist get excited about going to Taco King. That made me chuckle but also made me hungry.
Great video. Love the editing and style. Excited to see where your adventures take you next.
Oh wow! Would love to see it with some snow!
We got up and got out there as early as we could.
I couldnât believe I caught that! đ
Taco King reminded us of the TexMex places back home in Texas. It was solid!
Thank you!
@@AdventuresofAplusK You guys should come back to Alaska in the winter check out some of the same spots.
I love the winter here. Lots of hiking, XC skiing, downhill skiing, wild ice skating on lakes and rivers, ice fishing, snowmachining to glaciers, staying in public use cabins, and awesome Christmas markets. And that's all within two hours of Anchorage.
I've even been kayaking in Seward in winter and saw a sea lion.
You guys would love it here.

What time to you folks start your hikes?
It depends. Many times just after sunset. The biggest tip for beating crowds is to start as early as possible
