- Valdez is a coastal town located at the head of a fjord on the Prince William Sound and has one of the most beautiful backdrops of any town we visited in Alaska! Despite some less than ideal weather at times, we had the best two days exploring this area, including seeing wildlife, enjoying local coffee and food, hiking, admiring glaciers and epic mountains, and more!

Nat Shack is AMAZING. My favorite is the chicken burrito in a bowl. The owner passed away this past summer. He was so amazing! He is truly missed. Our daughter, husband and two grandsons live there. Our daughter is on the school board, the library board and works at the college. Her husband works on a tug there. He is native Inupiat. They have a 3 story house and the snow gets so high that the dog can walk right out on the roof! Oh, and they go hiking at Thompson Pass all the time. One of their fav places
Yes! Nat Shack is awesome! Super good. I had read that about the owner. That is very sad. Valdez was one of our favorite spots of our trip! I can't imagine all that snow!

When I was 16 I flew up to anchorage to visit my brother and sister n law. I flew over the Exxon Valdez We drove from Anchorage to Seward to deep see fish. We fished 1 mile from the spill. We saw where they had cleaned up the sea life. I was lucky to see a lot of sea life. Happy birthday to you Kathryn I really love your videos Stay safe stay healthy

I was born there! My dad started the business pacific mountain guides but sadly he passed in 2012 and we moved away. The business is still around and they even have a store now you probably saw it right next to nat shack. Great video I can’t wait to go back this summer.

Home sweet home for four years back in the late 90's and early 2000s.......just the drive to the terminal where I worked was like a vacation when I was a kid!

Wow guys. I grew up in Valdez and left when I was 8. You showed every single one of my favorite childhood spots. Very sad you guys didn't get to see the glacier lake. It was quite the sight when I was a kid. We walked on it when it was winter, the entire lake was frozen over. But when we were walking back a massive crack happened in the ice! we got off of it ASAP lol. Great videos guys

We live in Valdez, and I must say this is the best video I've seen by tourists. 😂 My wanderlust disappeared when I came to Alaska. Been here 7 years, and have no desire to go anywhere else, and even love the ~300" of snow every year. ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

Oh, Happy Happy birthday Kathryn!! What I wouldn't give to be thirty again!! What a wonderful lunch you guys had, it all looked so good! The fish reminded me of the Rocky Reach Dam in WA with the fish ladder that they built to help the salmon get over the dam when it was built! At the time, it was quite the thing to see! Very National Geographic, like you said!!
