The word 'assault' is meaningless and ill-defined. I have an AR-15, I went shooting in the desert with it with one of my friends yesterday, it was a lot of fun. I use my AR-10 for hunting, though, since the bullet is larger. It's not a matter of need, it's a matter of my right to own it if I want to.

The AR 15 is semi automatic and is primarily used for sport other than cosmetics it has nothing in common with the M16 which is an automatic machine gun. It's not even that good for killing especially when compared to your standard shot gun which are designed for large game hunting and self defense.

In my school, we all walked out during advisory and sat outside for 17 minutes in silence. outside , I sat with my friends, and we all got suspended! For two weeks!! It’s terrible that we can’t even show respect for the lost souls. I know 17 minutes is not enough time to make up for the lives lost. I give all my respect to the familys, and students who had to endure this horrific day.
Marie Lmao my school did the same thing, only the principle was being weird about it. He called it “a student led walk-out” but we all just jammed ourselves in the freezing cold courtyard (with teachers supervising us) and students read out the name age and interests of each victim. We did this for 17 minutes, because there were 17 victims, and they read a name every minute. None of us got suspended, since it wasn’t exactly student led or a real protest and, you know, the fact that the principle agreed to this event. Then we just went back inside and resumed our normal day activities.
My school was immediately suspending people that tried to leave and one guy got arrested...
We were gonna plan something with the councilor but she wouldn’t allow us because in case something happened during the walkout

You know it’s really sad that there are people in the comment sections arguing and saying mean things to each other, this is a time where people should be coming together, not attacking each other. The really bad thing is that this will all be forgotten in a month or two and the only thing people will remember is the name and face of the shooter not the victims who lost their lives.

At my school at the slightest threat, even when it was obvious it was face, the whole SWAT team was there and they have a bunch of cops there in the morning and dismissal.

There are two things that we can ACTUALLY do to solve this issue.
1: We need to arm the teachers and the schools in general.
We need armed officers that are capable of keeping the place safe. We need teachers to have a form of defense instead of just shoving everyone into hiding after the body count's stopped piling up.
2: We need to stop publicizing these people.
The thing with these shooters is that their name manages to get immortalized in the US. We need to stop openly stating their names and identities. Only then will they realize that this will stop working and that they won't get what they want.
Also, one last thing.

In the memory of lost loved ones
Last year there was a gas explosion a few streets from my house. My cheerleading coach was trapped inside of her house and my best friends house fell in on top of her and her family. Luckily, everyone was safe and nobody was harshly injured. The people who’s house got blown up, we’re lucky on vacation. Because the police were so busy, some people decided to rob the local gun store and drug store! Thankfully, houses are now being replaced and everyone is safe:)❤️

This almost happened at my school, we’re lucky that they posted it on instagram/Snapchat saying what to the shooting will start, where it starts and ends, and what teachers they would shoot. I️ had no idea and when I️ got to school I️ saw 10-20 police cars. Even though it didn’t happen it was still the scariest thing ever knowing that someone in school has a gun. I️ can’t imagine haw theses people felt to have it actually happen to them. All the victims have our support and I️’m deeply sorry for the families of the people whose lives were taken from them.

Josh Neal It's not that simple over here. Australia is an island with a population 1/13th the size of the US. There are about 330 million guns here already so it wouldn't be simple to round them up. Even if we had stricter laws criminals would be able to smuggle them from Mexico or off the black market. Our cities with the tightest gun laws have the highest amounts of gun violence.

im a broward county student. when this happened i was in fourth grade. i went to school ten minutes away from parkland. when i tell you that day changed us forver, it did. i was traumatized of how kids ive seen are now dead. and some students had relations with them. im now a seventh grader. this needs to be stopped. NEVER AGAIN.

197 lives have been taken in school shootings since 1966. That number includes colleges. I was quite surprised. The way this topic has been handled by the media in the last decade I would have thought that number would be in the thousands. We all agree any loss of life is tragic. In the meantime 11,000 + teens between the age of 16-19 are killed every year due to texting and driving. 197 since 1966 vs. 11,000 every year. I say we disarm the teens of their cell phones and begin saving thousands of teen lives every year. What are we focusing on people? And WHY?

Yes, we have freedom of speech, but you can’t falsely yell “fire” in a crowded theater or use speech to incite violence. We have freedom of religion, but teachers can’t force their views on students. These are sensible limits that protect, not deteriorate our freedoms. Why is the 2nd amendment the only one that can’t be touched?

How the hell did this kid know what kind of weapon the shooter have? I don't need some kid, obviously traumatized, lecturing me on firearms. Being in a situation and therefore traumatized, does not make any of these kids expert on anything except for being involved in an insane event.
This is so sad because about 2 weeks before this happened the exact same guy threatened to come shoot my school so we were on lockdown because of it and nobody was allowed to switch classes or go get any of their stuff from their lockers or anything and that's not the first time that has happened to my school so we immediately had to go on lockdown because nobody including the teachers knew it was going to happen

During my freshman year we had a false alarm shooting. We sat under our desks for an hour and we all huddled together crying and I remember us all sharing our lunches for a last meal. It was an agonizing hour and we all texted our parents. Finally the police banged on our clsss door and we all tried not to scream just to find out it was a false alarm. A rumor had spread that a guy was gonna shoot the scjool up and a girl called 911 saying there was a shooter. I was terrified then, I can’t imagine this
