Guy always goes back for seconds, I've seen him eat several full meals in one sitting because the food was so good... He took two bites of that mess and was out. Anyone who's ever seen more than two episodes of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, knows that was Guys way of telling us to avoid that restaurant at all cost 😅 lol

Honestly I thought the dish had promise, I like some weird Asian fusion, and I know Uncle Roger can be a little critical. But they put so much ketchup in there, and table sugar, then drowned it in condiments. Plus he put what looked like shredded iceberg lettuce in the wok, that had to have been slimy mush by time it hit the plate. They could've at least used romaine, or even better shredded cabbage. But we all have different taste, so who am I say it isn't appetizing?

Guy Fieri doesn’t have the heart to lambast dishes, but he gives us enough subtext to know when things are subpar. The locals love it and he understands that so he keeps thing’s respectful. There are plenty of chefs with tv shows trashing bad restaurants so he remains a force for good
Yeah, he never says anything bad about any of these places. You don't want to roll into a dive and say their food is crap. It's a dive. It's notable if the food is good. He's just showcasing some smaller places that have character (and possibly good food).

I know texans like whataburger even though it’s the worst burger I’ve had personally, but for the uninitiated it’s still an experience worth trying since it’s that that city or region has. Taste is also subjective so he knows he isn’t gonna enjoy everything and doesn’t let that stop others from at least giving it a try

I must say, I have seen this video so many times now, not only because Uncle Roger and Liz are fun together, but this Fieri guy is definitely chrismatic, and because this dish is so delightfully weird. Good stuff.

1 Kilowatt is just shy of 3500 BTU, so that gas stove is about 35 KW. Most Induction cooktops are about 3.5 KW. But pretty much all that Induction power goes into the pan, while the gas range also heats the whole kitchen.

I agree. After looking at this again, I don't think Guy Fieri liked it either but he loves promoting small businesses. He said the flavors "sync" ... what does that mean? He commented on the atmosphere, not the food at the end.
TBH is is more of a cheeseburger dirty rice than a fried rice. Dirty rice is a Louisiana thing, a way to use up leftover ground meat & veg.

I was shocked as I had had her food before at Pidgin in London, and I also come from a restaurant background (my family owns California’s oldest Mexican restaurant. To be honest, you can’t mess with legacy in this business. Do you know how much effing trouble we’d be in if we had a cookbook and just copy and pasted recipes in it to pass them off as my great-grandmothers? It’s a huge faux pas in the industry, Michelin star or not.

I've never put sugar on fried rice, but it's often used to cheat in glazing onions for burgers. It gives them more color, faster.

an electric stove/cooktop, whether it's resistive coils or induction... or anything that produces heat, has a BTU rating, if it's not listed with the device, there are endless conversion calculators online that will convert any form of energy to another,.... btu's, calories, joules, watts, ft lbs, newton meters.. all interchangable

My favorite dinner growing up? My mom would legit make rice in the morning and then would leave it open to dry all day, then she would brown the heck out of ground beef… then add those into a big bowl. It was ground beef rice with most of the fat with it… omfg it’s amazing and I could eat it all day. The grains that match the size of the beef grounds is mind blowing. Add some ketchup and you’re in business

She let me know he WAS really nice, but only to men. For some reason he was really short and rude with every single female at the restaurant and they didn’t want him to come back again. Luckily his model is to just visit once lol

After just having watched the SortedFood vid in which Uncle Roger makes a joke about how it took them two years to afford air con, it makes it so much funnier to see that he doesn't have air con.
A restaurant in my area used to have the best biscuits and gravy. Then Guy Fierri came into town and ate there. Before he showed up they changed the recipe, added like a pound of sausage to it. Guy loved it, I can't eat it anymore.
