Every Way To Use MSG Feat. Uncle Roger & Guga

- MSG or Monosodium Glutamate is essentially the salt version of glutamate… which is responsible for the UMAMI effect. It makes all things taste incredible, or does it? Today we put that to the test.

Fuiyoh indeed!
msg will grant asian parent approval (maybe not lol)
I swear the Chef side of youtube is the most wholesome...amazing collabs where you all seem to be genuinely rooting for each other (even though Uncle Rodger isn't really a chef)
its ironic. Because a lot of chefs are very opinionated and extreme at times
Whats even funnier is Im from the fishkeeping side, and everyone there is toxic as fuck compared to cooking.
@@valleymykel-mq7gw people in fishkeeping learn "whats best" and dont like to deviate from what they have been told. i like watching green aqua they all seem really nice and have a good community with there audience
@@valleymykel-mq7gwWhat do you mean? What's fish keeping? Why are they toxic about it?
Except Jamie Olive Oil
How is Uncle Roger not a chef!?!?!?!?!?!? 😳🫤
I was always skeptical about MSG until I did a blind taste test with steamed broccoli. HUGE difference! But yeah, put this stuff in any pasta dish and you’ll have everyone wanting the recipe
this is tru😂 thats why chinese noodles is better than pasta
I absolutely love how the editor of this video managed to replicate the editing styles of all three chefs!
They reused clips from previous videos
i think this is a group project
Uncle Roger is a comedian, not a chef.
Sounds like an editor collaboration as well!
I wish the editor deleted the video, what the hell happened to this channel
The whiplash between Weisman's frantic energy, Guga's ASMR voice, and Uncle Roger's rogering is amazing 😂
A lot of restaurants use MSG. No wonder ramen tastes good! Just don't overdo
Rogering. lol
I think we just need to add one more cheff to have the 4 horseman of flavor
@@MartinSanchez-vs9qf Dylan Hollis just shrieking at the stove as he adds MSG to a prune aspic recipe from the cholera epidemic.
I think he'd rather be rogering Auntie Esther
MSG with wings is god tier. One thing I did was use the same seasoning solution Binging with Babish does for baked wings before putting it in the oven (mix of 1 tsp baking powder and 1 tsp kosher salt). However, I substituted half of the kosher salt with MSG. Not only did this make the wings just as crispy as BWB's wings, but they also made sure the MSG flavor was baked right on the wings themselves. Top that with buffalo sauce (this one didn't include MSG), and it just added a whole 'nother layer of flavor to the experience.
I appreciate that you allowed everyone to do their schtick. Roger with the over the topness. Guga with that deep bass voice over. Let it breath, love it.
I absolutely love how each chefs segment was filmed in that chefs style of video. Absolutely brilliant to watch. I'd love to see more from these three together
They should from now own be truely called the MSG Trio/Mafia
And we didn't have to listen to Guga's "searing" music.
Considering how long it must have taken to prepare all those dishes and taste and review and shoot for video... my single biggest take away was: These three must've enjoyed each others company enough to hang out together that long.
The food looked like it was being cooked in all different kitchens. Maybe cooked before, and then brought to the filming
Or… They must really love the MSG!
These guys film together frequently. I'm pretty sure they're all buddies at this point
@@georgestone8099idk I’m seeing the same kitchen for at least 90% of them
@@Crying2Death, they’re in Josh’s new kitchen studio.

You guys are the flavor trinity! Seeing you guys in a video together AND MSG related this is a great video!
The sheer amount of dishes made here is astounding, let alone filming, editing, and making content out of it. Hats off to everyone involved in putting this together
I came here to comment that I was really impressed by this video. This trio of characters as well as the amount of recipes they did was so impressive. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. Great content!
I think you guys need to do a breakdown of each category so that we can greater appreciate the each of the greats that you had. Y'all had alot of bangers on here. We need a 2.0 of the finalists!!!
This colab was the best colab ever. The crossing personalities with joshua's editting style was interesting. Having all three cooks doing their narration style over the cooking shots was stupendous. A++++

Really like this colab. Each segment brings out each persons unique voice over and style, and makes the video much more entertaining.
I just love how Guga, Roger and Josh became one of my favorite trios. And how well these three work together to make top tier content xD
MSG TRIO/MAFIA!
Yeah, spot on! They should have an HBO show.
Guga has all the chemistry with Uncle Roger and Josh is just kinda there riding along with them honestly. I know it's his video but he is kinda second spot on this one. I'm being honest here, not just sucking up to my favorite CZcamsrs. I've been subbed to all 3 for years now so I'm not biased or nothing. Joshua is kinda smug also if I'm being brutally honest.
The Meat Avengers are great. I also reluctantly learned to love Nick. I want to hate, but he’s actually too skilled to hate.

INDOMEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Got me turned tf UP!!
Traditional Caesar salad dressing has anchovy paste in it, which is a ton of umami flavor, so I wouldn't think adding MSG would make that big of a difference.... I'm going to have to try this.
Hey Josh You and guga have changed my life. I have always been trying to make food but never knowing the right way but you guys have made me more confident and more adventurous in eating so I must thank you. also buying your cookbook now really excited to read both of them. I can't wait to try the recipes and feel the textures in the food. Thank you man you are the cure for a bored college student and his crappy diet.

High quality + covering new topics! instead of the same lessons we've learned a hundred times. I was just thinking the other day - if we add flaky salt to chocolate cookies, would msg also improve them? Is it only savory stuff? What about pickles, of heck even ice cream?
Right! So cool! The gluttony around MSG is another thing but XD Love it!
Kinda ruined by all the ads for the book
@@kangkim150 Really? lol

Glad to see how uncle roger impacted the chef community. More collabs videos please
Also, he made the MSG more acceptable to the western world.
Just came from the cowboy Kent collaboration videos
What I love the most about this community. Literally brings the world of food together.
I love him but I am deducting points, his pickle hatred is upsetting 😂
i used to watch all these guys before they started collabs with each other and its was such a great thing to watch three of my favorite food channels together. love all 3 of you.
Joshua your skills stand out amongst everyone here in this video. Great work.
Did Nigel always know how to cook? I’m almost convinced he learned when he got popular just to advance the bit and I love it
Most malaysians are great home cooks, helping their parents out in the kitchen from young gives them that experience and instinct that only time will develop. Plenty of home cooks that are better than actual chefs out there.
Yeah youre actually right. He was always more of a food critic, but he cooks on his channel rarely
food is a very important part of our lives in Malaysia, and also the rest of Asia. till today, my mum shops in wet markets to get the freshest ingredients and do not like super markets.. everyone is a food critic and will fight anyone and everyone over which place is our favourite. we also constantly talk about food everyday, every week.. etc.. conversations usually start with "where are we going to eat?". when you bump into someone you know in town or anywhere, we usually ask "have you eaten?". because we do a lot of home cooking, many of us watch and get involved with cooking at home from a young age. Just a small snippet of how important food is to us.
yes he does. He did mentioned in his past videos that he is a home cook but average one. It seems like a lot of his cooking you see in the video he picked up after colaborating with actual cooks
@@markwinston3119 When you saw the earlier videos of Nigel Ng as Uncle Roger, he could NOT cook. He could barely wok toss at all
This collab was really dope. You don't often see cooking videos presented so well. Showing off all the recipes and referring back to previous videos on each other's channels is really smart. I'll be trying out a few for sure.
Love this video! Not it is just super fun, it is actually also super helpful
Amazing idea to show out different recipes for one main ingredient
This was so fun! Great content, food, and personalities!!! 🎉
Absolute god-tier collab here. Perfect editing, perfect pacing, mouth-watering dishes and so many references to previous recipes so I can go find and recreate them myself. I already add MSG to a lot of things after having watched you guys for a while, but I guess I have to push it even further. You are all awesome, thanks for making this!
This is some insane production quality. This must have taken ages to film and edit, and it was amazing !
Thank you Uncle Roger, Josh, Guga and your editor for this amazing content
It takes ages to eat all the stuff and lost the weight after eating. :)
Super awesome collab!!
Pretty even input from all three, shows each of their styles - culinary plus personality, and so much cooking and SO much food!!
Almost a little overboard haha, but appreciate the effort, investment, and determination~
(I wonder how long this video took to film, and how much the ingredients costed, especially with the otoro, steaks, brisket etc)
hey joshua i love your videos and you inspired me to cook. i bought texture over taste, im getting it in a day im so excited!
We really do not realise how much work it takes to make a video like this. The length and tempo are so perfect it’s easy to watch at once even though rolling must have taken hours. I appreciate you guys so much and all the people working on your videos.
Joshua is the professional one, uncle Roger the funny one and Guga is simply the most wholesome lovely person ever❤
I really love that this video removes the xenophobia of msg even further and encourages people to make dishes better with them.
Yeah, these 3 together have probably 10x the msg sales for non Asian people in the west. I have a salt grinder, msg shaker and pepper grinder next to the stove at all times.
I don't think "xenophobia" is the appropriate term for what I'm assuming you meant. "Phobia" or "stigma" is much more accurate.
@generalsociety9607 it's partially accurate since the attack on msg in the us was spearheaded by racism towards asia. Vox did a great video on the subject. Definitely recommend
@@generalsociety9607You realize that xenophobia was the driving force that caused the stigma of MSG.
@@generalsociety9607xenophobia is the correct term it was used by Americans to spread hate against the Chinese
this was nourishing to my soul. thank you
Josh, Nigel, Guga, thank you for this episode! I really enjoyed it a lot! Having guys cooking together in collab makes this fun to watch! now I am hungry need to cook bye 🤣🤣🤣
Joshua being shocked and confused beyond words that that frankestein pizza turned out incredible at 24:52 was the best part of the video.

This collab made me so happy!! To see three of my faves…❤❤
MSG DOES make grilled cheese taste better, but you have to apply it to the butter side of your bread after grilling it. It's like salting it but a much more pleasant mouthfeel and it really brings out the butter flavor.
Yeah i feel like Guga needed some help in incorporating msg in the dishes instead of just sprinkling them. I think the nuggets were definitely a missed opportunity

What a great collaboration thank you Joshua!
I’m sure this has probably already been said, but dude… I absolutely loved seeing all the editing differences when it switches between each person.. Like they brought their own food AND editing to the table and absolutely ATE.
This should be a permanent channel even if you have to cook over Skype lol love the energy of the 3 of you!!
I have both of your books and they were worth every penny. Now I can use both the recipes and the techniques to make the perfect dish.
My takeaway from this is that these two extremely skilled chefs Josh and Guga while being amazing already, do still have something to learn!
That's based of Nigel's "baptism" to Joshua on Indo's Mi Goreng and Guga on Pinoy's Pork Adobo.
Joshua should cover more Indonesian cuisine, and likewise for Guga on Filipino cuisine.
That should net them more learnings, more views and added fanbase.
We need more of this trio, for sure. Funny and informative. Perfect colab.

Uncle Roger, a comedian, keeping pace with 2 incredible chefs was great to see.
I would love to see all the commentary on each dish. I know the video was long, but what I wouldn't give to see them interact. Also, love how they brought a chef, a cook and a comedian into the same kitchen, and how something so simple like packaged noodles still impressed them.

Haha uncle roger is great enjoy
YOUR FIRST TIME!? Oh man you've got a lot of videos to watch now XD
Yeah but to warn you he is very dirty
I think Guga's dishes might've turned out better if he added the msg at different times. Like for the steak, putting it on at the same time as the other seasoning, for the nuggets putting it into the batter itself etc. It seems to make a lot more of a difference when it's incorporated with other seasonings rather than used as a topping. That being sad, I loved this video, and it was so interesting to see what everyone came up with!!
MSG needs to be cooked to make a major difference. I was investigating Korean cooking and I read somewhere that MSG needs to be simmered (I was looking at stews and saucy meals) for at least 5 mins for the flavour to develop and then I found that stir fries are done at a high heat so a few mins in the wok is enough to accomplish the same. I knew that the foods where the MSG was sprinkled on after cooking would not rate at all.
Really enjoyed the video. I always add MSG to my bolognese sauce (not a traditional Italian recipe, a bastardised version popular in Ireland and England) and it has made it amazing where before it was just great (this is according to my husband so he may be a little biased)
