      Best 200m runner in history? Every watched Usain Bolt? 19.19!!! Michael Johnson never did 100m and that was Bolt's specialty!! All the pros and coaches always found interesting how Michael Johnson never got injured while leading a race. Michael Johnson was injured only when trailing a race. Just ask Donovan Bailey!!

    • @amjan
      @amjan Před 3 lety +1

      You are a stupid person. Let me explain then:
      MJ improved the 200m record from 19.72 to 19.32 - by 0.4 seconds!
      Bolt only improved the record by 0.13 seconds. This is why MJ's record is far greater.
      Bolt's speciality was the 100m and Johnson's speciality was the 400m. MJ was unbeaten at the 400m for 8 years (58 wins in a row), something Bolt cannot compete with.

    Two weeks before the 1992 Summer Olympics began, Johnson and his agent both contracted food poisoning at a restaurant in Spain. Johnson lost both weight and strength. He was the favorite to win the 200 m going into the Olympics, but he could do no better than sixth in his semifinal heat, and failed to reach the 200 m final

    I assume Johnson was in lane 8 those other 31 races in a row he won too. The only reaction was to lane draw 'luck', not what a great athletic perforamce we just watched.

    so he didnt run the 400 in barcelona because of the scheduling ???

    • @kobzster06
      @kobzster06 Před 3 lety

      Yes that's correct. And he was able to successfully lobby the IAAF before the 1996 Atlanta games to change the 200 meters and 400 meters schedule. The original schedule had the 400 meters and 200 meters heats and finals combined on some days. For example, the 400 meters semifinals and the first two rounds of the 200 meters were to be held on the same day, and the 200 meters semis and 400 meters final on the same day a day later. After Johnson's successful lobby, the 400 meters heats and finals were all done prior to the start of the 200 meter heats (with a day's rest in between). The rest is history.

      @@kobzster06 Michael's lobbying worked because of them cooperating with him at the 1995 world championships. Mike's original plan was to double at the '96 Olympics but he was initially rejected like a year or so before. The committee at the '95 world championships knew he wanted to double at the Olympics and said they would change the schedule at the world championships for him so he could do that there at least. When he won 200m and 400m gold at the championships that's when the Olympics people had to agree to work with Mike so he could do it at the Olympics because he had too big of a buzz and too many supporters and fans after what he did at the world champs. I'm sure they saw $$ signs and more viewers.
      Michael mentions all this in interviews after the Olympics. Might have been years later but I got the information directly from him.
