    As the commentator said, "Mike Marsh and under-appreciated champion." Damn right! People only remember Johnson being sick in Barcelona instead of the majestic series of runs Marsh put together, especially his 19.73 easing up at least 10 metres out. Had Marsh broken Mennea's record in that semi by running through the line, his profile would have been so much bigger and Johnson's record would have carried less. A healthy Johnson would have been hard pressed to beat the Barcelona version of Marsh.

      thats the problem with Marsh and others, running 19,73 in semi and 20,01 in the final..this kind of desorder never belong to Michael.... Michael is smarter or lets say it is question of harmony, he was able to stay cool in the begining and running just enough to get to the final, only then when he doesnt care nore about the world record in danger nore about the poor guys who are condamned to follow him and fight for secound place..and thats what makes him the beter one in history ( including the tal nice guy Usain Bolt).

  • @trackandfieldarchive
    @trackandfieldarchive Před 12 lety

    Always possible, just not sure Johnson at that time would have quite matched Marsh, though certianly later versions of Johnson would have. Nonetheless, Marsh never got the credit he deserved which is sad. Not sure I know what you mean about Watts. Did you mean that a healthy Johnson would have beaten Watts if he ran the 400? Or did you mean prime Watts VS prime Johnson?

    • @benimellal8284

      the difference is that Marsh and Watts were never stable, they can run one or 2 good races in their short carrier, while Michael maintain to be good and stable for more than a decade. BUT, as we learned 4 years later, Johnson was capable of being a childish dick when it came to some of his antics on the track. He was a great runner. But he had an ego that made it difficult to like him.
