I really love the unique way CineD review cameras through Documentary work which is my favourite
Thank you Lover of Tech. Appreciating the support!
Johnnie
I love that how Johnie (and CineD) test cameras - on a real project - and the projects are great. This particular is absolutely georgeous!
Thank you Pavel. Your continues support is very much appreciated!
Johnnie
Nobody watches your videos for the camera reviews at this point, we're just here for the beautiful documentaries
Thank you Bankole Oluwafemi for your kind words.
Johnnie
Magic camera, magic lens, magic voice and magic project . Fantastic good combination! Well done!
Thanks so much!
Thank you Sadrolin Tam
Johnnie
@@CineD You are welcome!
Doc was so good that I forgot to evaluate the footage lol... let me go watch it again ;)
Thank you Dimitri!
I was thinking the same. That means he did his job well.
Excellent as usual Johnnie, also Luciano’s editing - he did such a great job! I really appreciate the format, mini-documentary & honest review. It is so good to see a proper (mini) documentary done, as this is what I (& I’m sure others) would be evaluating a camera for! Thanks for all the time & effort you & the team put into these reviews.
Thank you microBROADCAST for your continues support! And Luciano is a true asset! His ability to make "something" out of (almost) "nothing" is amazing.
Johnnie
Beautiful documentary. Thanks. Great image. Dynamic range, highlights and shadows look so nice.
Thank you True Cuckoo. Appreciating the time you took to watch this.
Johnnie
Great Review. And I really enjoyed the documentary.
That’s Great!!! Especially the documentary about Anne (I know her through a friend). It’s very outstanding that you do a mini documentary for a review. Liked that part in your other reviews too. Be sure to keep it:)
Thank you Elias Förg. Appreciating the time you took to watch the video.
Johnnie
A great movie and thank you for your view of the camera. Much appreciated.
How you find so exiting persons and stories for you reviews all the times? 👏 Really excellent, it makes all the time so much fun! Stay healthy.
Hi Chris. In all honesty, everyone has a little story to tell....We are here just to document.
Stay healthy safe too!
Johnnie
The Doc looks and sounds great! Thank you for helpful review.
Thank you Alex!
Great to see a review with a real field documentary example. Well done.
8KisOK, thank you!
Johnnie
This was a wonderful doc
Thank you Tim. Appreciating the time you took to watch it!
Johnnie
Great real world review format. Love it.
Thank you Dbj5555555 !
Nice work Johnnie. Beautiful.
Thanks Johnie, clear and professional as always!
Thank you Couto Digital for taking the time to watch the video!
Johnnie
Beatiful documentary and brilliant editing. All the right notes :)
Thank you Федор Докучаев!
Thank you for this beautiful mini doc! New in here. I got mine a couple of weeks ago and I’m super happy. No issues with the blue tint from the NDs (I could say that on the 6th stop there’s a little blueish in the image, but still, super easy to correct in post- much better than carrying a bunch of NDs and stop rings etc...), nor with the screen, and so far I haven’t had any problems choosing white balance. Cheers from Italy
Ciao TopicRuben. Thanks for sharing the information. This camera is a grate value for money!
Johnnie
Thank you once again this was a Dope mini doc 👍🏿🔥🔥
Thank you Morana st.hilaire!
Johnnie
Nice review. Love the light in Vienna. Our sunlight in Arizona USA is so harsh, usually. I had the camera and the HDMI output was a problem. it looked like it was posterized or almost like the false color but different. One of the biggest drawbacks for me was only 1080 output in HDMI as well. On my Sony cameras, I usually record a backup at 4k on the Shogun as my clients require this most of the time. I was quite impressed with the image the camera produces at had no issue with 3200 iso. Love the flexible ISO ranges and ND built-in. Thanks again, Johnnie.
Thank you Anthony for sharing the information!
Johnnie
I really enjoyed this one Berni! Sehr schön zusammengestellt!
Thank you Johan!
Totally forgot to keep an eye on the picture untill this zoom in to the CU at the end "woke" me up. Nice work guys, thanks an alle Gewerke :)
Thank you! Appreciating the time you took to watch this short documentary.
Johnnie
A cool film and explanation of the camera. It really uped my motivation to film again after a long gap. I will certainly explore this camera to replace my JVC 1080 HD. Thanks. More, please!
Thank you Allan. Filming is my "therapy" too!. Much more is coming soon.
Johnnie
Thank you man !
beautiful portrait of such an interesting woman! Well done 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you 0pollyanna and Anne, is truly a special person!
Johnnie
Image looks fantastic, great job :)
Thank you Vilkan Visions
Johnnie
I liked, I subscribed, and I’m moving to Vienna! Oh, and I’m likely going to buy the Pocket 6kPro! 🎥
See you around then....:)
I think waiting until Blackmagic have fixed the issue with the colors on the evf and monitor. At the moment I love shooting with my old BMCC 2.5k.
I do a lot of location streaming, which has had me gravitate towards a full Blackmagic suite over the last year. I love having the fully integrated camera control etc. And when I have to switch quickly from an indoor event to some impromptu exterior shots, having the internal NDs makes the transition completely seamless-a practically priceless addition to the 6k design in those moments. Add the battery grip and viewfinder, and the unit has enough heft to feel solid and stable in hand, without getting unwieldy. Other reviewers state that the rear screen coolness calibration issue will get resolved in an upcoming firmware update. In the mean time use the viewfinder or an external monitor to judge color temperature. And certainly don’t try to show footage to a client using that rear screen. It will not make you look good. One other observation, I have used a USB-C to two-pin power cable a few times with a battery bank. In most instances, the camera stopped “seeing” 12v after a half hour or so and switched to the internal battery (limiting run-time), even though the battery bank was nearly full. Replug and everything restores, but unless that glitch can get fixed in firmware, I wouldn’t trust a long shoot to a USB power source.
simply because the usb-c is made only for charge battery not to power the camera. you should use the two pin power.
screen and viewfinder are super!
So assumed this was shot all on a tripod? Nicely done as always.
These reviews are miles better than the "engineering" reviews only looking at technical specs and what features the cameras have. Thank you for doing it this way. I have the BMPCC OG and the BMPCC 4k and both are amazing cameras. The 4k/6k are not compact though compared to the BMPCC OG and Sigma FP (which for all practical purposes are similar in size), but in terms of a fully fledge film camera they are compact :-) That is my only gripe with the 4k is that it stays at home more than my Sigma fp. Hopefully BM can reinvent pocket again in the future :-)
Both the SIGMA fp and BM line of cameras are very usable, and in the right hands can produce gorgeous images. Nice to know you are working with them!
Johnnie
Nicely done Jonny!
Thank you Dean for taking the time to watch it.
Johnnie
Das Video sieht fantastisch aus! Vielen Dank!!
The color science is really beautiful. Unbelievable that a camera that produces images like this can be offer to film makers for such a low price.
I've had the 6k Pro for about three weeks and it's a joy to shoot. IMO the EVF is a MUST if you shoot a lot of video hand held---even though the LCD is viewable in the brightest Texas sunlight----no problem.
The usability features plus the Gen 5 constitute a massive improvement. I'm glad to know BMD will be offering the Gen 5 in most of their other models....but when?!? My original 4 k is waiting!
Hey William. Sorry, I don't speak German....:). I'm 100% with you. Such quality for the price is unbelievable Good to know you are enjoying working with it!
Johnnie
Really nice doc. And Thanks so much for your videos and your help. Can you be so kind to tell me if you have not choice but pick one camera between the 6k pro and the Sony 7siii which one you’ll pick ? I know they are tools with different capabilities. But in terms or overall image quality and feature wise vs budget ? Thanks in advance
Looks fantastic, as usual @Johnnie Behiri. Honestly, I’m liking that Laowa OOOM more than the camera. That might pair nicely with my Red Komodo... when it arrives:-D
Hi AngryRabbit Productions. The lens is very nice, just a bit heavy and this needs to be taken into consideration when working with it.
Johnnie
Beautiful pictures. Everything was taken at t2.9 or at what t-stop point could it be said that it performs its best performance? I ask because I saw other videos where the performance of this lens is very poor especially in terms of sharpness (I do not mean clinical sharpness) it seems as if it were very weak at some distances, however in your review this lens shines and also has a image something vintage and something modern and I love that. Keep up the great work friend!!! thanks in advance for your reply.
Excellent, dood.
Thank you!
I've got my Pocket 6K Pro a month ago, the screen was perfect and has no blue tint and comparable to my10 bit HDR grading monitor.
Hi Simon. Good to know and this leads me to think that BM might have some quality control issues. Will investigate further.
Johnnie
I think that it would be interesting to see movie's color grading with this camera, not only documentary
Hi Stéphane S. You are absolutely right. As I don't really make movies, I hope others can come up with what you are looking for.
Johnnie
Great review Johnnie!! Love the mini doc!
Did you use a rig, with lens support for that heavy lens?
Thanks!
Hey Photographic elements. Thank you! Continuing with tradition of working "compact". No rig. Lens was attached to the tripod and camera attached to it.
Thank you for your continues support!
Johnnie
Very nice video.
Thank you. Appreciating the time you took to watch it.
Johnnie
Can you and your editor do a breakdown of this video. It would be very helpful as I have a few interviews and profiles very similar to create on my 6K Pro. Loved the cinematography and editing work.
Hey Ken. Sorry for my late response. Not sure I understand what you are after exactly. Please let me know how I can help. (You can also PM me directly and I'll do my best: johnnie at cined.com)
Thank you
Johnnie
@@CineD hi johnnie, sorry for my late reply. Sorry if i wasn't clear. Im shooting a docu for an art gallery in my 6k pro and interested in knowing the best 6k pro settings to achieve the look similar to the interview of the lady shown here, plus recommend a portable lighting rig. Ill message you too. Thanks for replying also buddy 👍
Wonderful documentary, very good review. I only wish the lens didn't cost so much (twice the camera price), so I could purchase it too!
Thank you vaskes123. You are right about the lens, but with such a zoom range, it is kind of predicted.
Johnnie
@@CineD True.
@@CineD Agreed.
Really Nice shots on the mini doc. I have also a 6K Pro camera and I'm enjoying it. I notice the blue screen but the footage looks great on the computer. I had an issue with the LUT's that I have imported to the camera, they don't seem to be working when i tried to activate them and also I cant delete them. Do you have a similar issue?
Hi Fabio. I did not import any LUT, just used the existing one. Unfortunately the camera is not here anymore for me to replicate the issue you are facing.
Johnnie
Do you know how many shims you used with the ooom lens with the 6k pro? I just bought the lens for my pro and cant get it to backfocus. Any help is appreciated!
P6kpro vs fuji medium format?
@cined how did you find the noise of the camera's fan while recording the interview? On mine you can really hear it coming through on the boom when I'm a similar distance from the subject.
Hi Guy. I had no issue what so ever with the fan noise. What you hear in this doc is what you get. I did not manipulate the sound in any way.
Thank you
Johnnie
Thanks for the video @CineD. When she is singing opera, what kind of mic and recorder were you using for Audio ?
Hi Ravi N. Audio was recorded directly to the camera. Rode Wireless Go kit (Original) and NTG5 where used to record the interview and music. (I ran a take with the wireless and as a backup with the NTG5). Both sounded fine considering the type of music recorded....
Thank you.
Johnnie
Hi . The buzzing noise from fan. You can hear it just as you hold camera up to show/listen to ND filters engaging. Is that not excessive. I mean the scratch audio is pretty decent from this camera but that buzzing noise from internal fan is pretty loud clearly heard in footage when using scratch..... Not present in Ursa's.
Johnie nice video like always, but you definitely need a colorist, final colors can be much better than the one you showed in the short documentary.
Hey Blender Wiki. To start with, you are absolutely right, yet, I'm debating with myself as most of the content creators out there will not use the services of a colorist. So in this regards, I'm showing kind of "true to life" results. Saying this, I'm doing my best to get better with color correction, simply because the importance of that "final step".
Thanks again!
Johnnie
J....I love your work, but I’m also very impressed with the look and feel of the image. Very nice. As for the price, it’s a lot cheaper than than my Arri BL 4 package, or my first Sony HDCAM. The former was a steal at $200k US and the Sony was a bargain at $90k US. Neither had the resolution or ease of use this has.
Hi Luke. You are absolutely right...Crazy to think how much we used to pay for broadcast equipment that produced nice images, yet not so "cinematic" in a way....And in regards to the BMPCC 6K Pro, for the price, simply unbeatable.
Thank you!
Johnnie
Johnnie I liked this documentary the Blackmagic Pocket cinema camera 6K pro complimented it perfectly.
Out of curiosity what was filming the parts where you are actually talking about the camera itself.
Thank you ruffdraft! I use the unbeatable FUJIFILM X-T4 for the part I'm talking. The 4K is upscaled to 6K and still looks good!
Johnnie
@@CineD Oh ok I see. The Fuji XT4 has crossed my mind. But the Panasonic S5 and Panasonic Gh5s and Panasonic Gh5 look good to me aswell as you can get a good body only price on the Panasonic S1
Although I'm not interested in any EF cameras, I always love these portraits.
Plus, Blackmagic's developments are always fascinating - they should join the L Mount Alliance
Thank you Fellow Citizen.
What L-mount cam u got? Been looking at the s5 myself
Great video. Did you have Blue screen issues? I did a bit, auto white balancing with a x rite color checker works. Then using the color checher for color reference, the matching it in resolve helps. Blackmagic does need to come up with that gen 5 update and fixes for various glitches, soon. I just bought the EVF, lets see how it goes with my eyeglass, hum.
My daugter is another young /American [New York City-of Color] living in Vienna, although half Austrian . She got BA degree there. She is just finishing presenation & workshop she conducted as the WeltMuseum. She is into dance, race, gender, and art, etc. You singer in the seems, cool. take it light
Hi New York Artist and Philosophy. Thank you!. Indeed the LCD screen is blueish than the EVF. (Did not interrupt my work as I'm an "EVF guy"....:). I'm with contact lenses and was not impressed with the image quality of the EVF. Hopefully you will have better luck. In regards to your daughter, if you think she might be a good match to the type of stories I do (as part of those camera reviews), why not connecting us? my mail address is: johnnie at cined.com.
Thank you!
Johnnie
@@CineD Thanks for the reply. Have not gotten my EVF yet, but some say using a LUT helps. We will see. I am mostly trying it because I am near sighted and wear glasses. I will ask my daughter about your idea. Thanks for offering. We have done such collaborations here in New York Art community sometimes. take care
Hi, congratulation for all the videos. I discovered your channel just few days ago.
Witch camera do u advice to start?
At the moment I have a Nikon Z6 that I use for photography and video...... but video images of the Nikon are not so special. You think blackmagic 4k is a good choice?
If you can’t make something look good with the Nikon Z6 that’s on you not the tool. Learn the craft first.
@@orlando9666 Can you read what I wrote?
I don t like the image quality of the Nikon. You prefer that I make a draw to let you understand?
Hi Sotto Sopra. A great camera to start with is the FUJIFILM X-T4. BUT before moving away from your Nikon Z 6, (Which is a capable camera by itself), maybe it is wise to understand your workflow. From my own experience I can tell you that lighting and coloring are surly important....We live in an age that footage from even average cameras can look great if treated correctly.
So what I'm trying to say is, please don't rush to spend the extra money and change your filming tool. Maybe it is something else that you need to look closer at first before doing so.
Thank you!
Johnnie
Your comment makes me a bit worried, since I just bought the z6 to pair with my BMPCC 4k, for this I bought the 5 "blackmagic video assist monitor. I decided on the Z6 because I also wanted to use it for Photos when I'm not making video. the extra $ 200 that Nikon asks for to get BMRaw, since the camera records 8 internal bits Did you also upgrade your nikon to work with an external monitor?
@@CineD Thanks a lot
I wish this camera had 8K
Amazing work - great not to see slow motion
there is a lot to like about this camera, but really even with the new color science the color is still the weakness. It looks muddled, dirtied up with purple and reds. It can probably be fixed in post, but it is not easy at all.
Hi Designguide.tv. I'm happy to take the blame if the colors are not nice in this documentary. I'm not a colorist and I'm sure that in the hands of a capable professional the images won't have the issues you've mentioned.
Thank you
Johnnie
@@CineD Johnnie, I think as usual you did a great job here, and it is all looking very consistent. I am not a colorist either but I do have to do it a lot and it's something to consider when starting out the process. When the image is more neutral it is much more easy to work with and mould to fit the narrative. Of course, I am comparing this capability with much more expensive camera systems but I just hope they will continue to improve on it.
Wonderful shots, but it's crying out for the S-Cinetone of the Sony FX9. Just looked a little flat.
Hi Oxford Blue. Personally I like BM colors better than Sony's. Saying that, if the image looks a little flat, it is purely because of my poor grading skills!
Thank you
Johnnie
Now they just need a 4K pro.
Why does everything look brown with this camera
thanks for putting this out there... but I can't help but to comment.... you should never wave a digital camera around in the air without the lens port cap in place.... unless you like dust spots in your footage... :-(
Hey Dick Bell. Please rest assured that the camera sensor gets a proper cleaning right after I finish talking about it.
Thank you
Johnnie
@@CineD does bring up another question that I have not looked closely at... with the 6K Pro, can you get to the sensor with the drop down filter on that cam... is the sensor available if the drop down filter is set to 0 ??
I forgot that I am watching review and wanted to turn it off 😂🙈....well made
Servus
imo...I found the jittery nature, the staccato jumpy characteristics of movement when panning and tilting to be a major distraction. took me out of the story.
Can be. I will take a closer look at this in order to understand if I was panning too fast or if there is an issue with the camera.
Thank you
Johnnie
@@CineD Hi Johnnie, I just watched it again and it was not as pronounced as before. Which makes me think it was possibly CZcams and/or my internet traffic slowing down to make it jump around. So I'm thinking it's nothing to be overly concerned about.
Didn't even mention the big issues with this camera, losing credibility lol. Gotta maintain that blackmagic relationship.
Move on or mention the big issues with this camera yourself. I did not find any.
Thank you
Johnnie
The project looks very nice, but the pocket pro and the OG 6k share the same image. I guess the only cool thing is the built in ND’s.
