- Took a quick dive into the new BMPCC 6k Pro, tested NDs, audio, low light and a few other features of the camera.
Tech notes:
1. DNxHR is not support, just Prores and BRAW
2. Dual native ISO triggers at ISO 1250 per comments, and documentation, page 53. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Finally a person who knows what it's talking about. I'm so tired of these youtubers whining about the Pocket 6K Pro. The P6K-Pro it’’s a great camera.
My man, what a lovely channel you have here. I can't believe that youtube don't show your channel in results. Subscribed !
It's great to have someone with your level of experience as a working cinematographer providing a through technical review with an honest and practical assessment of the pros and cons of this camera. Based on your other product reviews, I have come to trust your judgement and opinions since you clearly backup and visually demonstrate your conclusions. I'm looking forward to your next video.
Wonderful overview. Thank you!
So when can we expect the audiobook??
Jokes aside haha, loved this video, very informative, subbed.
Well done... straightforward review. I'm also reliant on Histograms. They should have it for us old foogies!
He knows his stuff. Subscribed. Thank you.
Thanks so so much. Appreciate the care and professionalism. Much love
Great informative video. I found your channel some time last week and really enjoy your professional take on gear. I work in broadcast TV, so I'm tied to a camcorder style rig most of the time, buy I try to keep up with all parts of the market. One day when I find the time and money to branch out into more creative production work, I'll be coming back to this channel for info!
I find you one of the most interesting presenters to listen to and have been following you for a while, not a lot of videos I noted, and then you went quiet. Now I find that you've been active and there are a lot more videos than what I came across earlier. I feel like I've been in the Twilight Zone. I don't think anyone will understand Blackmagic cameras until they have used them.
I hit like, and then he started reading the name of the wind. I wish I could like multiple times. Thanks for all the great info!
"Name of the Wind" has such a powerful opening page. Still waiting for the next novel in the collection...
@@cinemak1759 been waiting for years, hopefully soon as this is such a well-written story
Another top review, Karl! Very informative!
You should be making these videos Joel! I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy for YT.
False color is a game changer for me coming from hybrid cameras.
Thank you for great review. Very helpful!
you sold me.. im going to have to buy that book.. great review on the camera by the way :) And one more thing seriously. I think everyone who shoots and edits their own stuff should take at LEAST a weeks time to research audio engineering and how it works (not implying this is you). Throwing a compressor or a limiter on the audio bus alone is a major Godsend. Also the main benefit of the miniXLR ports that many film makers don't get is for interference issues. The 3rd prong essentially works as a noise cancellation route (as opposed to a 2 ring mini jack).
Appreciate your instructive tutorials and reviews. Very helpful. Blackmagic corrected the blue monitor issue with firmware updates. I found out they added the updates and other tweaks to the latest shipments that were sent out to retailers in June. I bought one.
Yes, many were waiting for the firmware fix/update. Glad BM got to it sooner than later.
Terrific review. Thanks
The moment you brought out Name of the Wind for your audio sample was the moment I knew we could be besties.
Yeah, that's such a strong opening page for a novel. The tone of the writing also seems to fit my voice (or vice versa) so I've been using it to test audio.
@@cinemak1759 it's my favorite book of all-time, so great selection ;)
Great review. Prores will always win
Wonderful review! CZcams compression does a number on some of the tests though. I didn't see any noise until ISO 6400 and then only a little. Regardless, looks like an amazing camera.
Great Information ,
Very useful
I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. My 6k pro doesn't have the blue tint. Curious to see how this rolls out. Great video to. Thank you
Kool vid!
Great review! Yes, it has blue tint on the screen, but the picture is amazing. I am keeping the P6K along with the P4K as a B cam. Take care.
i got one yesterday no blue tint whatsoever
@@eazypeazy6650 Literally both are true for me as well. I got mine yesterday and no blue tint, thankfully.
This is information may be very helpful: The BMPCC 6K/4K dual base is ISO 400/3200, but the lower ISO range is between 100-1000. At ISO 1250 is where you will see the 3200 range kick in with significant noise drop. Take off the lens and install the camera sensor cover it came with and cycle through the ISOs. It tells the story quickly. I try to shoot at 1250 when I’m traveling above 800 in lower light. It’s looks amazing at 1250.
Good tips about ISO1250. I only had the camera for a few days, sadly it's returned to owner and I didn't get a chance to look at ISO closely.
I love Fouls Colors. You can have the waveform.
You owe me a screen, I broke it trying to subscribe as hard as I can♥️
Great video! How far away was your mic from the camera when reading? I’m having issues with mics picking up the fan noise/rattle of the camera. Could you “hear” your copy?
The mic was about 3 feet away from the camera. I use a hypercardiod in this setup and i don't recall hearing the fan noise.
just a quick notice, the BMPCC4K/6K/6K Pro's 3200 native iso will be triggered at iso 1250, thus you won't see a performance jump at iso 3200
Noted. Needed a little more time with the camera, with a deeper dive into the FULL documentation.
I know it's not "class-leading" autofocus, but does it autofocus at all? Like on a face, if I want to set up the camera, then jump into the shot? Thanks.
I didn't test autofocus. Ran out of time as I had the camera for only a few days. I have read how some do use autofocus to initially set focus, the proceed to roll camera.
The tint on the ND filters is on purpose and nonexistent when used correctly. Cinema Chimp covers it well here: czcams.com/video/RUhw1ei6zSs/video.html
And there’s a statement about it from BM. The ND filters are professional grade and extremely high quality.
First off, I did not mention the standard production protocal to white balance the camera with each scene. Going to 6 stops of ND you would normally white balance the camera. If you do not know standard professional production procedures then you should learn them. Other reviewers mentioned a blue cast, and yes there is a blue cast without doing a custom white balance. Second, I believe I said the biggest imnprovement to the camera is internal NDs. It's a blessing and completely elevates a disruptive camera. Blackmagic did provide professional filters for the camera- simply try using cheap ND filters as comparison. Are they perfect? No, but absolutely usable and i wouldn't even think about the very slight blue cast at all to be honest. There will be many other problems to deal with on set.
Now to your point- Google Arri Alexa LF Internal ND filter blue tint. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money developing full spectrum color neutral neutral density filters. Key phrase- "full spectrum color neutral". A single Arri FSND neutral density filter, PV size, cost $670 at B&H. There are 8 filters in a full set of ND's. Do the math. Naturally Arri has a behind the lens filter module too.
Blackmagic apparently "stacks" ND's to achieve 6 stops of attenuation. Very typical technique. Does the stacking of two NDs produce less than full spectrum color neutral attenuation? I don't know, I didn't test for it. Usually it does, which is why we have so many NDs on bigger budget productions. BUT, the results are usually excellent with most cameras that have internal NDs, so no one gets bent out of shape over it. Now, have marketing/advertising departments ever twist things around to benefit their products? You decide. But it's only for internet blabber because the ND's on the BMPCC6K Pro work great and I wouldn't worry about a very slight color cast- your lens set may have a greater color cast difference between lenses. As I said, there are many other things to worry about.
EQ the audio and add some (good) compression and the in-camera sound would be really great.
You mention DNXHR a few times but I'm pretty sure this camera only does BRAW and ProRes no?
Correct, I'm behind the times, stuck on old BM cameras.
@@cinemak1759 no worries. Love your videos. Thanks
Isn’t the the html output only HD so you can’t record 4K or 6k externally.
Yes, should have been clear on that. I was thinking of remote control Live switching the camera with the ATEM unit.
Please tell whats the lens you have mounted on it?
DZOFilms Vespid 35mm
Couldn't "Black magic" provide waves in a firmware update?
You would think so- the Video Assist monitor/recorders have it.
@@cinemak1759 I see, so spend more to get more😂
@@bryanbarajasBB Nah, BM should really give us waveforms in a firmware update- without spending more!
@@cinemak1759 Ah, I hope they are listening to that😎👍
Just so you know...1250iso is better then 3200iso
next, read the specs before ;- )
Why your videos are so blurry? It's as if you have upscaled 360p video. Otherwise you make very good and professional videos. I give you thumbs up but this blurry video really annoys me.
thumbs down cuz of commercials
