- Led Zeppelin in Oakland, CA, July 23/24, 1977 - Rare footage from Led Zeppelin's Oakland CA, July 23/24, 1977 concert. It was a "Day on the Green" show with Judas Priest & Rick Derringer as the opening acts. This performance would be their last American appearance.
I was there ...it was my 17th Birthday...Summer of 77...good times...
I Was Born The Day It Ended
Good Lord, Judas Priest opening for Led Zepelin. Mindboggling.

Sorry to hear that. I congratulate you for being here. I would have given my right arm to be here.
Glorious Footage 🌹💯
Bless you for sharing ♥️x♥️x
Never realized it was their last US show I was there and had tickets for the show that was scheduled in 1980 when Bonham died
My grandma was at this concert
i was at this concert. i was 21 years old and was getting out of the army. us ft ord 54th mp co. monterey ca.wow!
WOW! did you know a tall blond guy named John Thomas? He just got out of the army too and we were at this show. I could swear it was Fort Ord.
I was there on sunday , because next day on monday I got a speeding ticket after work. My D.L. was still in wallet I used at concert.
I was there....
I was here on Saturday
Day on The Green
This was the Saturday show. I went to the Sunday show, which had a very long wait for the band to appear. I can't for the life of me remember how long the wait was, some people who were there say it was 4 hours, but I don't think it was nearly that long. Can anyone with a clear memory of the show recall the actual delay?
I don’t know how long the delay was, but it was caused by the band insisting the Bill Graham sign a document absolving them of responsibility fir the assault that happened on Saturday.
My birthday. I was 7.
Weeeell , I heard the LED zeppelin there with a lots o noodlin' there friend. Lots of weird, strange sounds and stuff. 🙂
who the hell is the one taking these 5 second clips and then stopping it. what is even the point of filming it if your just going to do that
If you ever attended a concert in the 70s, nobody, I mean NOBODY had any type of video recording devices. If you did it was a bulky and you stood out like a sore thumb. Security would be all over you. Besides, we were there to enjoy the event. Not to record for social media unlike today. Thus is why these raw clips shot from crowd are are so special and rare.
Zeppelin was awful that day .... yes I was there and you were too high or clueless to start if you thought they were good that day.. I saw them in other venues when they had it together..
A might thank you Tony.
There is another CZcams page with over 700 replies. The majority cite how great Zeppelin were.
Most personal accounts of that day also involve drug use. Pot the winner and some brazen people admitting they were on heroin. One heroin user said that Zeppelin were playing so long that they needed a "maintenance" shot to get through.
Even pro-Zeppelin authors cite the Oakland gigs as lame. Yes, like Seattle the sound system not properly set up for such a large venue.
Zep's Road manager - Richard Cole - claims that the band had heard about the incident with Bill Graham's security man. Cole added that Bonham and Page had raging habits which led to bizarre playing habits throughout 1977. Cole described Pages playing as "quiet."
I was there Saturday, I was 15 and expecting a “Song remains the same” concert, I was kinda disappointed.
Why was the show bad,? Was it Jimmy? On Heroin.
@@FrostedSeagull I agree, acoustics for the Oakland Day on the Green Shows were always bad. I lived close and went to most of the Oakland Shows. 1973 Kezar Stadium SF was the best show.
that place really sucked for acoustics. sound just bounces all around the walls. they sucked too, from what i can remember. Robert Plants bulge didn't disappoint though.
Good on you Peggy, another realistic account if that day.
I was hugely disappointed as well. I think I attended one more DOTG concert, and was done, and back to Winterland & Cow Palace....thank you Bill Graham
You had to be close, within 100 feet and close to center.
The only guy that made it worth my time was Rick Derringer. An actual guitar player who knew how to play
