It's been a long time since I rock and rolled
It's been a long time since I did the Stroll
Oh let me get it back let me get it back
Let me get it back baby where I come from
It's been a long time been a long time
Been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time
Yes it has
It's been a long time since the book of love
I can't count the tears of a life with no love
Carry me back carry me back
Carry me back, baby, where I come from
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Seems so long since we walked in the moonlight
Making vows that just can't work right
Open your arms, opens your arms
Open your arms, baby, let my love come running in
It's been a long time, been a long time

We are a small country, so it's quite astonishing, really. My brother is a full-time musician and recording artist, and my father knew John Lennon when they were at school together. He saw the Beatles perform many times in Liverpool before they became famous.

Do young people today understand the sheer magnitude of Zeppelin? We have to remember that they were the first of a kind. The USA had just recovered from the first British Invasion (mainly The Beatles and The Rolling Stones) and then they were hit by this sonic bulldozer. No one had seen a rock band like this before. Also remember that Zeppelin had a mystique. These days we know every single detail about a band and its members and we overdose on video footage. Back then it was totally different. Zeppelin weren't shown on tv and they didn't even release singles. People had no access to videos or the internet, all they saw were photos in magazines and they listened to the albums. Add to that the symbolism and their tampering with magik (not magic) and you have a very powerful and intoxicating force.
I'm 18 and they're my favourite band. Saw Robert in 2017 for my first live gig. Have all their vinyl. I have DVDs, magazines, books, clothes and more. So yes, some of us do understand the magnitude. I for one, know they were the biggest and baddest of their time
Get over yourself
Good lad you are alfie
This is the most amazing shit I have ever read in my life.
I’m 19, and was shown the music of the past at the restaurant I worked at in Houston. We would only spun vinyl. I was fortunate enough to work behind the bar and actually have these vinyls in my hands. And choose what to play. I knew of zeppelin but was not deep into it at all. And my coworker picked Led Zeppelin 1. And my ears were immediately caught. Been listening to them for not even a year but sat and actually listened to each piece of work. My favorites is lemon song. I hope you are doing well. Salutation and cheers I’m happy we are able to experience this amazing work at the same frequency.
Jimmy Page was not only the most beautiful rock star he was also a genius. The greatest guitar 🎸 Player in living history. Our very own British Sir lancelot ❤❤❤
Definitely not the greatest guitarist. Prince and John Frusciante are better
@@paulharrisonadventuregearm5457 In rolling stone he is number 2 behind Hendrix only. We all have opinions and to me JPP is the guitar 🎸 god
@@marywhite7341 Rolling Stone doesn't know shit. I would rate David Gilmour as the greatest guitar player and Jimmy Page right after him. Gilmour could touch your soul with a single string bend. Absolute genious. Same for Jimmy. Both are legends.
@@reflect916 My oh my David is my number 2 with Beck at 3. I know we all have different opinions but ours are so similar. It's Jimmy's riffs and solos for me. However, David is a very close second Zep 4 is my fave album with Atom Heart Mother at 2. Both guys unbeatable by anyone x
@@marywhite7341 Yeah, we have a similar taste. Atom Heart is a great album too. I'd put Gilmour as the gretest guitar solo master, and Jimmy as the greatest guitar riff master. Happy 50th anniversary... Crazy to think these concerts happened half a century ago. They still feel so modern
Form is temporary; class is permanent.
Led Zeppelin is the only band of that era or before that actually 'still sounds modern' because they were so far ahead of their time. Listen to any other band or act of that era or even the decade after (80s) and it all sounds dated in 2023. That's why they would sell out massive stadiums (100k) long before anyone else!
I think they're timeless.

@@losttango Well… yeah! Hendrix was in a league of his own. You got me there!
This footage is 50 years old and still compares to every modern concert video out there today
At that time videos were still shot on analog film, which actually has a pretty high resolution compared to some digital cameras even nowadays. That's why some old movies/concerts can be remastered to 4k.
@@_kurohana That's because the analog film also doesn't have real pixels, but rather film grain and by the early 70s the color film technology was already more than 30 years old so the quality was already there. This looks also to be shot on either 16mm (super 16) or 35mm (aka your regular photo film, which is also used for motion picture) film, which is much better than the super 8 (8mm film).
Analog has also made quite a little renaissance in the recent years and even bigger movies like Oppenheimer were at least partially shot on analog film. What's even crazier is, that there is still research and development behind analog film making them even better than 10 years ago!

uh yeah uh yeah 😛
Almost 50 years ago but still gives me goosebumps everytime i watch it! One of the most epic opening song in rock history!
this footage is incredible.
Except for one minor detail: Plant should NEVER have opened with it live. Not if he wasn't going to warm up and set his voice first anyway. This is one of his better sounding vocals from the '73 era (although likely VERY cleaned up by Page before release)... if you listen to any of the bootlegs from '73 and '75 as well as live aid '85, he's always clearly not warmed up and ready for it. Any of the shows in which he did it much later in the set (or even as an encore), MUCH better voice. That's any of the '71 and '72 shows, '77, '79, '80, Knebworth '90, solo '94, Page/Plant '95-'98, and even the handful from '01-'02 era I believe. By the '02 and after, starting in '14 I believe, he lowers the key of the music, but still MUCH better voice.
@@brentwerley6762 Yep, this song (and many other songs in this live album/movie) feature overdubs. One particularly noticeable overdub is this version of Rock and Roll's opening line - "It's been a long time since...". This line is a studio overdub featured in the original 1976 concert movie, and you can tell because you can actually hear the real live vocals of this line in the original 1976 live album movie soundtrack. Why the TSRTS movie and its soundtrack had different versions of songs will forever be a perplexing mystery. Interestingly, the 2008 live album remaster actually uses the stronger overdubbed vocals from the 1976 movie as opposed to the real but weaker 1976 live album vocals. To be honest, I don't mind the overdubs - they do improve the songs that feature them, instead it's the cuts they made in songs to make them fit in the movie that annoy me.
And yes, I agree that Rock and Roll was not an easy set opener for Plant. The Song Remains The Same (the song) was a far better opener for Plant (not for Page though - it's a really hard guitar song) but at the same time I never really liked it being used as an opener because that would mean that there would be no Rain Song later in the set or at the very most, it wouldn't be connected to TSRTS as it always should have been.
Yep ❤😂🎉
