I was at this show. It really brings back memories. It was a great show too. I was lucky enough to see Zep three times in my life.

I've worked over 5,000 shows and this was an awesome one (one of the best)...maybe because it was my "first". As a concert producer today I can honestly say it was A+. Anyone who feels different just wasn't there. As for Harley's comment that 38 Special opened - no one opened HOWEVER 38 Special did open up 3 weeks later in the same venue - LSU Assembly Center (and they blew Bad Company away). This show didn't loose the spirit - quite the contrary. In 1975 they simply rocked out hard. On this 1977 tour they played for 3 hours and that INCLUDED AN ACOUSTIC SET. Some people might think acousic unplugged sets "loose the spirit" but for those of us who love Battle of Evermore, Goin' To California, Black Country Woman, Bon-Y-Aur Stomp, White Summer/Black Mountain Side.......that's where I "really" learned what Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were all about.

I'm glad to hear your very positive review from a first person perspective. Led Zep didn't have a great night every night on their '77 tour for various reasons.

I was there both times they played in Baton Rouge, and both shows were awesome. This amateurish 8 mm video obviously doesn't do them justice and makes me wonder why Led Zeppelin would even post it. They should seize and release the "Rampaging Cajun" (Empress Valley) bootleg of the Baton Rouge show on February 28, 1975. It is available in FLAC format on torrent sites and is the best bootleg recording of a Led Zeppelin performance I've ever heard.

Later on during "Sick Again" at the 4:41 mark - all the members turn around to watch him do that fast single stroke fill all the way around the drums & Page gets so excited during it - at many shows & he starts jumping up and down - watch the drum fill, listen & watch Page !!! He repeated that 4:41 drum fill at all the shows on that tour that I've heard, but they always turn around to watch him do it !!! He was an incredibly talented drummer that was taken away from all of us, way too soon ! Long Live John Henry Bonham ! He will never be forgotten !

@@kenglass7833 I (WE?) were lucky enough to see zep live and grow up w/ them in the 60's 70's. I feel sorry for today's kids that get fed a bunch of shit non stop on radio and the internet.

despite the chopped up video you can feel what a sick show this was....
The drum fill that John Bonham does at the 4:12 to the 4:15 mark - is fricking unreal !!! Listen to it ! Pause it & re-listen several times, just listen & watch Bonham only for those 3 seconds ! I, speaking as a drummer say that fill is insanely awesome - the ruff he does on the set between those open fills is awesome as well ! The finesse, power, speed & accuracy are just unbelievable ! It looks like many times, during Zeppelin shows - Plant, Page & Jones are watching Bonham - off and on - just to see what he's going to come up with next !!! I know they all watched each other, bc that's what all musicians do some times during live show, but I think the other members liked to see what Bonham was going to pull off next ! Unbelievable stuff !

Man is it just me or was John Henry Bonham the ultimate badass drummer in the world. He looked and always played so badassly in the late 70's with his sunglasses, full grown beard and long hair. Came up with the most amazing drum fills ever like on Song remains the same, The Rover, Sick again, Nobody's fault, In my time of dying and so many many more.
Every time I watch them live on CZcams, it makes me wish I could ever go back in time

Thanks for sharing and WOW- what a blast from the past. I was 16 and this was my first concert. It was VERY sold out and my old man forbid me to pay more than the $7.50 face value for a ticket. The only reason I even got to attend was the two month delay. My old man saw that I was so desperate to get a ticket that he talked one of his Barber Bros. co-workers into selling his girlfriend's ticket for $25! In the end, he got "scalped" and I got to go to my 1st concert. And yes, Led Zep is my favorite band of all time.

Was there at 17 years young. They were late, caught in their own traffic from NOLA fans coming up I-10 the same way. One Hour and 45 minutes later though, it was on Bro...and the lasers on the ceiling I had forgotten about almost..
Also had my Superdome ticket, but sadly that was never to be. Bless lil Karac's memory. All of our love, to Him now'.

I was on my way as well. The tradigy of Karac’s passing still effects me. As l have sons now
I was at this show and I was 17 years old. Since it was general admission/festival seating, we got there early in the day so we could be the first in line. This was the LSU Assembly Center - they had tons of great bands there during this time. At the entrance where we were at the front of the line, there were about 8 glass doors. Of course they opened only one door and the crowd immediately crushed us all against the doors that were closed. I thought I was about to get pushed through a glass door. A security guard started pulling my arm and somehow I squeezed into the open door. It was pure mayhem and absolutely a blast. To this day, I swear this was the loudest concert I've ever experienced. My ears rang for several days afterward. After the show we ran down to where the vehicles came in and out and we got to see them in their limo leaving. What a day!
I was at this show myself. I also saw Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" show at this venue. The greatest place for rock shows was The Warehouse in New Orleans. Every band you can think of played that place at one time or another.

Bonzo's stainless steel drums are awesome ! It seems as if ever drum outfit Bonham had is referenced & remembered by people/fans/drummers - the thermogloss set, the green sparkle, the amber Vistalites, the stainless steel !!! He was something else indeed ! William F. Ludwig II or III stated that John Bonham was one of the most professional drummers they ever serviced - he ordered his Ludwig drum outfits well in advance, as to not put too much pressure on Ludwig, etc...

I was there. In the middle of the show, John Bonham did a drum solo that lasted almost 10 minutes. If your mind wasn't already blown before he started the solo, it certainly was by the time he finished.
I was 13 when I attended this concert. Truly a life changing event.
How awesome it must have been to actually have been there in all that energy and music and crowds and and majik . . . .
Amazing energy. Just never felt anything like it - except (don't kill me LOL) at a BTS concert LOL But still, Zeppelin remains the most fantastic concert I've ever seen!

I was at this show. I lived in the far west suburbs of New Orleans at the time. I also saw The Who and Alice Coopers "Welcome to My Nightmare" show at this same venue. I also lived in the French Quarter in 1974 to 1976, and I used to see Jimmy Page and Robert Plant hanging out at the Royal Orleans hotel bar from time to time.
WOW! It would have been amazing to be there! It's so sad to know now this was really the last moments of an amazing moment of Rock History.
Took a chance to see if footage from this concert existed and it does! I was at this concert and was 18 years old. The best time of my life! Those were the days 😎

I was there that Night, and no, 38 Special wasnt the opening act, Zep never had a "Opening Act" for years...
I WAS THERE! My first concert ever! Got in line at 11:00 am and the doors didn't open until 6:00pm supposed to start at 8:00pm , Didn't start until 10:00 pm . We didn't care!
I saw the Zep in 1977 at msg in new York they were great three and a half hours they never took a break I always remember that tonly concert I remember anyway well whatever I'll never forget it

Those were the days when you could bring a camera into concerts, I got pics of Zep at the Kezar stadium in San Fransico 1973 and across the bay in Oakland, Day on the Green. RIP John Bonham. Thanks for the video, the good ole days. Ken

1977 St. Louis, Missouri. I was 17 and in awe of my heroes. Fast forward to 2020 and this lifelong musician's cover band is loving life playing festivals and wineries with a set list that includes 'Stairway' (yes really) and 'Good Times Bad Times'. Stairway started as a bet. The crowd reaction was so amazing we've kept it on the list! 'Free Bird' too! LOL. Truth.

Jimmy Page looks full of energy and enthusiasm. He was only on Heroin for a year at that point or 2 max. Amazing stuff 1970s LZ.

My wife and I were there. First band I saw with a lazer light show. Baton Rouge used to have a lot of great bands come through. Some of the ones I've seen here Led Zeppelin, Leon Russell, ZZ Top, The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Jimmy Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Winters, Elvin Bishop, The Greatfull Dead, Black Oak Arkansas, Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne and more I can't remember. Don't know why they quit coming to B.R.?
I was at this show myself. The Warehouse in New Orleans was one of the great places to see a rock show. I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd there in 1976.

Brilliant clips, unfortunately we'll never get the 70's back. Maybe it's just me, but i prefer watching the old crappy film rather than the way everything is perfect nowadays with blu ray etc.

Oh, 8mm film! I myself have done the same thing of taking a few seconds of frames and stopping, because the film (and I bet this person was using a 50 foot reel) was so precious! This footage is great just because it exists. Now, if Jimmy Page released the footage taken from the video screen at Pontiac, Michigan, I’d really be happy.

My ears are wide open...this obviously wasn't professionally and allowed to be filmed, and for someone to sneak in a 200 foot reeled 8mm camera, for a lousy 8 minutes on each side, then do the awkward spooling in the dark, that is difficult to believe that this is a full concert shot, broken up choppy on purpose.

Yes, MY WHOLE POINT, as in the start of this thread is that 8mm filming was very limited and me, back in the day, as well as those shooting these scenes, know the limitations of it, especially compared to a professional videotaping of it...COME ON. No one here is talking about soundboard recording or bootleg audio.

That's exactly right, this is 8mm film there is no way this can be filmed at even an attempt at a complete concert. 50 foot reels lasted like 3 minutes !

Led Zeppelin sounds great, looks great & great film footage !!! Some people claim that Zep played terrible on their 1977 US Tour - I have to agree with Trey Merrill - they did not !!! Some of their most epic shows were on this tour. A missed note here & there - a missed beat, etc...does not discount an entire show. I've heard pretty much all the bootlegs from this tour & are aware of the few cancelled show, etc...but I haven't heard a bad show from this tour yet !
I've seen most of it Danuel - I didn't think it was that bad at all. Again, I can't grab a few mistakes in song - here & there & apply it to the whole show.
The Tampa Show was to be a 3 hour concert, but if you were there, well you know what happened. great memory.

I saw that same tour in New Orleans, I was 21, my future wife was 15 & 1/2! Still married, will be our 45 Ann. this coming may. But this was the best concert I ever saw. Been to over 30, Styx, Yes, ELO, Clampton, Montrose, Black Oak Arkansas, Bob Seager, Peter Frampton, Kiss, ZZ Top & my first concert was Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sept. 19 1974, Nichols State in Thibodeaux, LA. Wow, what a way to begin my R&R concert adventure.
But, the New Orleans show was canceled, due to the death of Plant’s son. I’m confused.
@@rougarou722 This was in 1977, I had tickets for the one you are talking about too, around 1980? got our money back. The one we saw was @ the Municipal Auditorium. No back up band.
I attended the’77 show at the LSU assembly center, it was a month after I saw Pink Floyd at the same venue.I remember getting a rain check ticket back then and I guess that’s the one in the dome. I’m confusing the two. Thanks for the info.

One of the best 8mm's of Zep I've ever seen - maybe the best? Going to the trouble of catching their jet landing, and the boys getting off was extremely cool - which one was Peter Grant? Hmmmmm ... I wonder?

There's an unearthly power about Zeppelin you can't tangibly identify tha t i don't feel from other bands and that made them monstrously good.
That is not the Starship. That was Led Zeppelin's other plane. "Caeser's Chariot" used for the majority of their 1977 tour of America. The Starship was the brown plane seen in the "Song Remains the Same". This one was white and leased to Led Zeppelin from Caesers Palace hotel and casino.

Actually, after your show at the Tempe Activities Centre, Zeppelin flew to New Orleans to prepare for a huge show at the Superdome. Zeppelin loved "Nawlins." It was in New Orleans that Plant got the bad news. 2 shows were cancelled at both Chicago Stadium & Pittsburgh Civic Arena, as well as Rich Stadium Buffalo and a final night at JFK Stadium. New Yorkers who missed seeing LZ during the 6-night Madison Square Garden stand planned to drive down to Philly for the JKF Show.
It wasn't to be.
