@juanc2499 Because in the studio Page overdubbed 8 guitar tracks for the solo and 16 in throughout the song. Kinda hard for one guy to play 8 guitars at once live man.
@AchillesArms Keith Richards commented to Jimmy "you ought to consider taking on a second guitarist, your rapidly becoming known as the most overworked guitarist". It just speaks to Jimmy's immense talent that he could pull songs like this off live. Saw Pagey with the Crowes in 2001 with 3 guitarists and it was amazing cause they could play all song parts.
I don't think very many of us have heard this exact version, yet it ends up on a channel with barely over 300 Subscribers and just over 70,000 views. A lot of pictures haven't seen before either.
I agree! I downloaded this version from Napster back when I was a kid, but it got erased some how. It's taken me 25 years to find it again, but here it is!
Nice job on the video with the words. great version of this song although Bonham isnt his usual self...I have only heard a couple of things where Bonham is not on top of it...this is one of them...by saying not on top of it, I still mean Bonham is better than anyone else on their best day!
This is really good! If there was a video of this performance, it should be on the DVD, the best live version I've heard. It's a shame that Jimmy was so unstable or we would have had several good shows from that time that could be turned into albums or videos.
When he released his solo LP I wasn't impressed. He came to Detroit, and I was able to get a ticket the day of the show, only because my friends were going. We were blown away. The singer had to emulate Plant and Paul Rogers (The Firm). Page cranked it up on In MyTime of Dying, and even played over the Hills and Far Away not-for-note to a hushed audience that held for applause. Surprisingly excellent show.
I was stationed at Schweinfurt, West Germany in 1980 and was lucky enough to have been able to catch two shows on this European Tour. Once in Nuremberg when Bonham passed out during the third song, Black Dog. Kind of a bummer cuz I was front and center. Next time was in Munich. It was scaled down from previous tours I’d seen. It was tight, loud and intense. I was young, drunk and digging every minute of it.
I missed it by and arrived in Schweinfurt in May 84! Got to see Monsters of Rock in Nuremberg and “Yes” in a gym in Wertzburg, took a train stayed in guest house ✊✊🇺🇸
Hard to believe Page was really thinking about adding another man to help with their later harder songs like Achilles last stand, that required more strings. But John Paul jones talked him out of it! Led zepp rocks
@@88hh40 Jimmy was using a delay pedal at Knebworth for this track. Zep never had a fifth person on stage with them unless it was as a guest and it was never because they needed them.
I'm with you. I really enjoyed this but I think I like the 79 version a little better. Either way, good performance. Love the fact that they never played a song the same way twice.
Necro response: listen to earlier in the tour. Specifically Dortmund and Cologne. Bonzo's spark is much hotter. I never to the "love" for this version. Bonham is on auto pilot.
Search the Achilles Last Stand Destroyer Bootleg on utube, imo that is by far the best. PS. acoustic stairway bootleg with different solo on my channel, enjoy!
Collectively, The Beatles would've butchered this song, but Macca probably could record a decent cover by himself, he sings, he produces, he mixes he drums, he basses, he guitars... Now I'd really like to hear that. I think it would have a "happy" tone to it.
80 tour is such a mixed bag as they started out tight but played horribly at the end. The Berlin show "the last show" was Jimmy's worst ever and unfortunately part of the residual Zeppelin legacy. What I found odd of both the 77 and 80 tours, Jimmy would never release any of that material on the 2003 DVD and I could only assume he was not too proud of those tours.
The answer may be more simple: multi-tracks. Knebworth was multi-tracked (MT)and that's why some official material exists. Zeppelin tended to do MTs on special events (Earls Court, Knebworth). A regular show got a reference 2 channel stereo mix laid down on cassette. Not much you can with that in terms of mixing, remixing or editing. All the 1980 boards that are out there are 2-channel reference board mixes. MT'ing in 1980 made no sense, the reference tapes existed as a 'hey, cool riff, let's revisit that.' I'm sure Jimmy looks back at the heroin haze at times no too proudly, but just like Achilles Last Stand from Knebworth that's on the 2003 DVD release, there's a pretty flagrant bad note in there - and he put it out there because for his bum note, the performance is excellent.
I'm going to say some controversial things that need to be said: Jimmy Page>Eric Clapton, John Bonham>Ginger Baker, Robert Plant & John Paul Jones>Jack Bruce. It's my objective opinion.
Roberts vocals are spot on. Jones is keeping great beat. Bonzo is missing the Thunder? The fantastic drum fills are there with his speed he is known for. Or maybe it’s the recording. Page is loosing it. He plays great rhythm but he has lost the soloing capability.
damn it.. howcome everytime they play this song live it sound like shit and especially the solo can never sound like the studio version one. i hate it. i am a huge zeppelin fan but it sounds weird.
I’ve heard numerous, numerous versions and this one has some force. They were in Switzerland, John & Jimmy were getting off smack!
this is my favorite zeppelin song!
I came here to say that. The song is a journey.🏺
LED Zeppelin a maior banda de rock pauleira de todos os tempos pura magia 🇧🇷🤘🏾🔥🎤🎹🎸🥁⭐🌙🪱👹
Absolutely the best live version of this song. Thanks for the gift! Well done!
Yes u r right
Robert sounds amazing here!
Very haunting 😎vocals on this track 🔥

Spoken like a true overrated rhythm guitarist....
Sounds like the Zurich show, 6.29.80.
The best of the best Achilles live !

I think this is the best ALS from any tour they did... 🎸
Nah Frankfurt 1980 same tour of this one.
1977 la forum
Knebwork....
Naw, Dortmund 1980. This performance feels phoned in.
I agree! I downloaded this version from Napster back when I was a kid, but it got erased some how. It's taken me 25 years to find it again, but here it is!
Had tickets to see The Mighty Zeppelin on this tour , and Bonzo passed away 🙏🌹
:-(

Nice! I was hoping someone would upload this version, since I felt it was the best in their 1980 tour.

HHC 3/64 Armor division (3ID) > can’t for get Ledward barracks 👌✌️- miss all you guys that went to the field with 😢

Led zepp rocks
Did not know that. What is the source of that information?
Pretty sure someone was adding harmonies when they did this at knebworth
@@88hh40 Jimmy probably over dubbed it in the HTWWW project. It does sound stellar!

Very tight for the 80 shows....better than the 77 tour but I like 8/4/79 Knebworth show the best.
I'm with you. I really enjoyed this but I think I like the 79 version a little better. Either way, good performance. Love the fact that they never played a song the same way twice.
Better than 77?? Hell no. Try listening to some of 77, including the run of LA shoes and NY shows
It was good.
best live-recorded performance of ALS ever?
i sense sadness in Bonhams drumming.. he wasnt on fire like usual.. still the best!
Necro response: listen to earlier in the tour. Specifically Dortmund and Cologne. Bonzo's spark is much hotter. I never to the "love" for this version. Bonham is on auto pilot.
This is really f’n good
音質が凄く良い!Σ(×_×;)!

Exactly what I was thinking lol
@sharrer2 Your right but Jimmy loved taking chances, if anyone could do it he could and this sound very full, actually stunning version
Can’t see it?
@AchillesArms More Strings? Page should of played the EDS then like he was going to originally for Achilles
@TheAchilleslaststand not a rough stage but a rough and high page...
exact date of this one?
June 29th i think.
No, they are not wrong.
Jimmy Page at this time is clearly progressing the performance

Paul McCartney would have injured himself trying to play this on drums!!
You realize there ARE plenty of pictures from the 1980 tour you could have shown...
Better than Knebworth '79
Such high praise, and well deserved. This is the best live version of this song, no question!
True
That’s saying something
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i love exports, thats why they come in boxes
Well played, not well recorded or mixed, but still a good listen
page was plenty high before he started doing heroin. trust me.
Fucking Bonzo The Beast behide the Kit ....

very true, however there's plenty of good Page in those shows, more than enough to make a dvd/cd/album.
