    Excellent coverage of problems associated with a weather-proof jacket. But you didn't cover the technical issue of breathability, the MVRT rating. And just a side note regarding hoods - the majority of hoods merely cover up to the chin or a bit above depending on your neck and head length as well as whether or not you're wearing headwear. I make heat reflective, breathable, wind and water resistant/proof anoraks. My hoods cover just above the tip of my nose or adjusted lower. When above the tip of my noise, the warm moist "air" exiting my nostrils warms my face as well eliminates cold wind, rain and snow penetrating my face. So why don't manufacturers of quality jackets, anoraks and cagoules make hoods that perform in all weather? A fabric covering such as a balaclava allows wind, rain and snow to penetrate it when worn to protect the face. A properly designed jacket hood for example should protect the face.

    Good summary Loyd, IMO you covered all the main elements (boom boom!). I have two w/p jackets, both from OMM. I have the Halo 2 and the Kamelika. They both function very well but now I've come to realise that they lack some features that I would definitely look for in my next jackets, namely:
    Press studs (as per your Ron Hill example) I can't emphasis enough what a great feature this is (and would be if I had it!).
    Stowaway hood would also be high on the list. I'm considering if it's possible to glue some velcro dots on mine, so that I can roll the hood up.
    Packing in its own pouch is very useful. Lots of YT demos will show how small a jacket can be squashed down but as soon as you let it go, it springs back. I utilise the elastic adjusting straps for this but you have to roll it a certain way. Which is fine at home but a pain mid trail.
    A bit of colour/reflective detailing doesn't go amiss either.
    I'd be interested to see a w/p trouser review, lots of winter races have that as mandatory kit.

      @wicklowjohn Před 2 lety

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 2 lety +1

      The press stud feature is really good Ian, all jackets should have it! Having the ability to pack the hood away is a feature were seeing less and less of nowadays. For me it's not essential, I just tuck the hood in the jacket when I'm not using it. I like the sound of the velcro idea though 😊
      I'll have a think about waterproof trousers. I have hot a pair put I think I've only ever used them once and that was in the AoA in some pretty bad conditions 🏃‍♂️
      Thanks for watching and supporting as always Ian 🙏

      Hi Wesley
      It says that on all the brands websites that make a Gore-Tex Shakedry Waterproof jacket. I think it's just to cover there backs if something does happen 🤔
      I've had my Ronhill jacket for about a year now and I've used it several times with a pack on. I haven't done any long races in the jacket but a few of those runs I had it on for 4 - 5hrs and the Jacket looks fine, no signs of wear at all 👍
      I'm sure eventually it might have an effect on the jacket if you run it with a pack all the time but it has to be retty bad weather wise for me to even put a jacket on 😊
      Hope this helps Wesley and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏😊

    Hi Loyd, another great review. Just a quick question after watching, I'm entered into the ARC 50 and was planning on wearing the Scott RC WP jacket. Now the specifications of the jacket state that it matches the requirements of Skyrunner World Series and Ultra Trail World Tour, waterproof to 20,000 mm, taped seams, etc, but is this jacket going to meet ARC requirements and in your opinion would it be a safe bet for the event? I've run in the jacket in varying conditions and it seems to hold up well.

    I've been eyeing up the Montane Minimus Stretch Ultra, but having seen that Harrier jacket and heard the price, I may hold on a bit. It looks really good and is about half the price... come on, what's the catch?! Looking at all their gear in fact... it all looks fantastic, yet is unsettling cheap.

      Hey Tom, we just don't sell through distributors or retailers. Or have physical premises. So everything is direct to customers and online which cuts out a huge chunk of costs. The whole company is run by 2.5 people - myself (Kate) my partner Matt and Mary who does our social and comms. Because of that we have the margins to make the items less expensive for people. There is no catch, or anything underhand behind the scenes. I use freelancers for design, photography, accounts etc. So again we only pay for exactly what we need to keep costs down and pass on savings. Happy to answer any questions :)

      @@harrier_trail_running Thanks for the reply! That all makes sense, and I didn't for one minute think there was anything underhand here. It's just that I've always liked to invest in good kit, even if it means paying a few quid more, and the concept of paying half the price for something just as good (or maybe better?) takes a bit of sinking in! Your whole range looks fantastic though. I'll definitely be trying some bits out.

      However if it's as good as it seems , once word gets out those concerns should be allayed. In the meantime it would be worth explaining company structure and distribution.
      Finally, when you have the final version I would re-film your youtube showcase video and delete the old one. Only because the arms are long and some , like myself initially, may miss the blurb explaining it's a prototype.
