  • Harrier Exmoor Waterproof Jacket - full in-depth review. It's not the first time the Harrier Trail Running brand has appeared on the channel. In 2020 we reviewed one of their ultra bundles by running across the Cornish county 38 miles on the Smugglers Way. I was really impressed with the kit we tested, especially when you consider the great value price point. So when Harrier contacted the channel and asked if we'd like to test out their new Exmoor waterproof running jacket that was going to retail at under £90 here in the UK, I jumped at the chance! Check out the review to see how this great value running jacket performed!

    I love how many pockets this jacket has. Works for the consumer offering an affordable highly versatile jacket for training and racing mandatory kit. MAYBE they could remove the two side zips and leave them as open pockets that can be used for food (stuff you don’t mind dropping out) or keeping your hands warm. (No athlete 100% run’s ultras so hand warming pockets are cool for when we’ve slowed down or stopped)

    I love mine. It served me well in some torrential rain we had in California in January. The one thing I would change is an extra snap at the top. The one in the middle is nice, but the top of the jacket still flaps around a bit. I like the side pockets for stowing my gloves. And when the jacked is rolled into a waist wrap, those two side pockets are also accessible.
    One bit of sizing advice, if you're between sizes, use the length size more than the girth, because that dimension matters more.

    I use a dry bag to store my waterproof jacket then put it in my vest and I have a vent on the bag to expel the air that can reduce the size considerably so this jacket is absolutely going to be purchased along with the new 10 litre vest I love the red and black colour. Great video as always 👍🏻

    Good looking jacket. I agree it could probably lose some pockets, and is a touch heavy, but from what they've said they were going for functionality over minimalist weight and didn't want something that "just met mandatory kit requirements". For the price it's hard to argue with. 👍

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 2 lety +2

      I totally agree Stu, the last thing I want is a waterproof jacket that just ticks a mandatory box! I want my jacket to actually offer me protection from the elements for long periods of time, which the Exmoor Jacket does. So by taking a few pockets off that saves a lot of weight, pockets are heavy and how often do you run with stuff in your pockets? I think a big part of functionality of our waterproof jackets is also the weight and packabilty 👍😊

With the hood up I was thinking “Hmmm, not sure”, but after adjusting it for fit it feels great. I have to say the hood design is excellent, and it's probably the only soft peak running hood I've used that doesn't need a peaked cap under it to stop it flopping about (mentioning no names, Salomon)Yet to try the jacket out for real but first impressions are really good.

    Great review Lloyd, thanks. I note you didn't really talk about the breathability at all due to it's price point. The price is a valid point of difference, and this jacket does represent awesome value for money BUT that breathability rating is very low, I suspect you would get pretty hot n sweaty in it. I am not knocking it in the slightest, just pointing out that out.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 2 lety +1

      The breathability was actually pretty good in the Exmoor, I think having the addition of pit zips helped. Don't get me wrong I've run in jackets that are a lot more breathable but it performs well considering the price point. Like you said it's had to get a high level of breathability at this price. You tend to find the waterproof jackets with those high breathability ratings are also pretty expensive so it definitely comes at a price! 👍

      No problem, glad you enjoyed the video. If you put any waterproof jacket on in 35deg C you're going to feel very hot and sweaty! 🥵

    Hi I love this jacket and it’s price but quick question does the other much lighter jackets you mentioned have ventilation as the Gore 7 doesn’t and I’m just worried for it’s price I might as well ware a black bag as there’s no ventilation and I’m I Oslo Norway ⛈❄️☃️ and I’d like a jacket I can ware both summer and winter. Ps so far I just run for fun no races.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před rokem +1

      A lot of the lightweight waterproof jackets don't have ventilation, like pit zips etc because it adds weight. I personally think if you want the jacket for winter and summer the Harrier jacket would be to heavy and warm to use in summer, it's definitely a cold weather jacket 👍

    I like the amount of pockets. Why remove them just because someone doesn't like pockets? It seems to be a backwards, less choice option. I use mine for hiking too, so they come in handy, even moreso if my jacket is over my running or hiking pack, so I can now put my gloves etc in the pockets, as I can't get to them easily if my packs underneath.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 11 měsíci

      I've got no issues with pockets on hiking jackets but I'm not sure they're needed on running jackets. I'm not a fan of running with things in the pocket of a jacket, plus I want my running waterproof jacket to be lightweight and packable. Added pockets adds a lot of weight and bulk to a jacket and I never use them. This is just my personal opinion and running kit is a very personal thing, if pockets work for you it's great 👍
