To fellow INFPs who are thinking "maybe it's this job, this country, this relationship" as quoted in the video.
He is right that it's always going to be shit in the end, and that does indeed sink in when you get to around 30.
However, as you cycle through these experiences, you can find ones that are close to your ideal or romanticised view in some aspects.
In fact, it is possible to experience things that are even more beautiful than you could have imagined.
And the suffering will make you wiser, in a sense more authentic to the human experience than perhaps any other type.
To reconcile your Fi and Te, follow your heart stoutly, take in everything, and don't look back little hobbit.

Anyone who understands it's the tribe that needs to change is correct. The lack of self awareness and conspicuous absence of psychological education in our culture tells us this. But ironically, that change starts within individuals, including yourself. Accepting, coming to terms with, and overcoming your suffering by getting to know yourself rather than projecting and escaping yourself is the work, and this content represents a powerful tool to that end.

Wow, this is me. INFP here, became a nurse and have worked for over 40 years in geriatrics and rehab. I knew I could not let myself get promoted as I would then have less contact with the patients. I knew that the closer I was to the patients the happier I was. I also had problems with managers who were bullies and narcissists. I found that working part time solved all of my issues. I wasn't there enough for my blood pressure to go up, and the flexibility of nursing allowed me to work when the bullies weren't around. I always tell my patients that it is them that makes it all worthwhile. When I am nervous about going to work (I think I will always be nervous no matter how old I am) I remind myself how wonderful my co workers and my patients are and suddenly I feel so much better.

Hmmm I'm a 30 year old INFP and the best way I've found to deal with existing in the world is accepting the need to compromise and constantly reminding myself that it will make my ability to use my weaker functions stronger and growth is good. It also helps to remind myself that balance is key. I mean, sure, I WANT to be all Fi 24/7 and ignore the rest of the world the same way that I WANT to sit around watching netflix in bed 24/7 but that wouldn't be healthy and my life would be really imbalanced. Better to watch netflix whenever I can and also still be able to pay my bills than to watch netflix so much that I can't afford to pay my netflix bill. Even jobs that you might associate with something an INFP might want to do, like writing, for instance, end up requiring a lot of extroverting with editors and during book signings as well as attention to details that may not interest an INFP. Sometimes you just gotta suck it up so that you CAN do what you wanna do. It's the price you pay.

I'm 31 and I noticed I did this too, but probably took it way too far.
In high school I had my heart broken, shut down emotions, and basically swung in the exact opposite direction. Learned to be extroverted-ish when I need to be, confident, logical and data driven (studied economics b/c although I wanted to do philosophy I also didn't want to be homeless), and work at a bank doing taxes now 😅. Since looking into mbti and remembering I'm an infp, I realized I used to be very creative, driven by emotions ect. And honesty, I have adhd and most of my "impulsivity" seems to be when after looking at all the data and logic of a situation I end up just following my feelings anyway on a decision.
I want to start writing again, because I used to do poetry and such that nobody will ever see. But tapping back into that level of vulnerability (even when I'm alone) has become very hard and embarrassing. Although when I can I do remember the feeling of feeling everything and trying to express it in a million ways.
I guess what I'm saying is, find a balance. The ability we have is amazing, don't take it for granted, honeing, and honoring it is worth the effort.
Any tips for figuring it all out would be great. Always collecting new perspectives 😁

Basically hear a variety of opinions and don’t take any one person’s ideas as the word of god).
Long story short, you just have to write, even if you think what you’re writing is garbage, and try experimenting with different techniques and keep learning.
Here’s a few channels I think can help off the top of my head:
Unicorn of War (some of his old videos are writing advice)

  • @PearlSplenda
    @PearlSplenda Před 5 lety +34

This vid started on such a positive note and ended on such a cynical one. Agreed with the first stuff. FOR INFPs: The best way to get through our crap is no longer put saving the world on our shoulders and accept that every person (literally based off of their MBTI) is trying to do something good in some way and that they are not going to do it through the classic Fi means of extreme moral living like we do. That is fine and in fact amazing because we need others to bring practical good things into the world like money.
Using our Te for good is another great thing - analyzing systems and procedures and precisely naming descriptions and definitions of functions and terms to control, manipulate or push towards the next positive action is hugely impactful to grow so we can use it for good.
The truth is we can’t predict the future with Ne well without enough Si information. So being present in the moment, analyzing how systems work right in front of us in real time is super important in learning how to use Ne to predict the future well and accurately.
Also none of this is possible without laying off of Fi perfect morality in the world and Ne idealism or dreamland of that morality. Let go of those then do the last two things I said.
As you begin to function more with Se & Te moments to add to your Si ram and also analyze many systems and procedures and learn new things in books in such through Te, you will rule the mofo-ing world.
The last step after you’ve done all that though is letting yourself go back to your Fi and Ne and grieve all you’ve lost that you’ve dreamed of in reality. You can’t turn off Fi and Ne as they do still spark hopes and dreams along the way even if you’re not foolishly expecting them to come into reality without looking at the fact of what has happened in front of you or taken the time to understand those events with your Te. Fi and Ne are always there and are super emotions so going back to crying it out, journaling it out, writing poetry about what was lost or what was disappointing is all worth doing regularly because its always a part of you.

I think any mature person whose value is worth their weight is going to have to figure out how to live in the the real world. But it is an immature person that compromises their values to "get along" in the world. You stick to what makes you, you in the center of your being, and just let the world exist as it's going to do. Don't change yourself though, or you will lose the inner peace that having a solid moral framework grants you. The answer is to stay true to that integrity, and use your life to preach and be the change you want to see in the world. Not everyone has to hop on board for you to be successful, just say your peace of mind and accept that you cannot always change people, you can only plant seeds for change, and that's enough because it's the best you can do.

A good example of really questionable change for the sake of fitting in is this: I remember someone in the CZcams comments saying that you have to throw away your dignity in order to make progress towards a goal in the entertainment industry. If I can expand, I'm pretty sure they are trying to argue that its okay being taking advantage of, either sexually or some other way, because the end result is worth it. They get attention, they get rich and they get whatever else they want.
Granted, a lot of actors will have sexual misconduct issues in Hollywood. But rather than standing up for it, they'd rather make money and fit in. I'm not sure why people can't accept what the world looks like from the perspective of the INFP or the ENFJ. Throwing away your dignity for these things sounds like a really poor choice. It's just perpetuation of abuse and you're willing to make money for it. For an INFP, if someone said, "Hollywood is only for people who are willing to degrade themselves." - we're not gonna bother with those same people. And I'm not talking about the people these things have happened to but friends that support you can't really be your friends or respectable. To an INFP, anything that leads to degradation is no longer a dream that's worthwhile.
The thing about certain personalities that I've learned from watching C.S. Joseph is that some tend to make friends with criminals and degenerates - mirroring those with poor moral quality and never seeing anything wrong with it. Mentioning these people as if they are really worthwhile and then wondering why they are losers. Your friends being a reflection of self is really important for remembering who you really need to be. I really don't know why people compromise self-respect first.
To be fair to movie art. I'm not saying that every relationship in Hollywood or every movie where an actor has to portray something that makes them uncomfortable should be a sign that we all avoid trying something different or risky but man. If it takes years to overcome what you regret about the choice, really only one time at that rate or to be more fair to my argument - never at all.

I deal with the tribe with humor. Its the only way I've found to easily connect with people without making myself totally vulnerable, yet I'm establishing a rapport with them. I'm a manager at my job and it's really not my comfort zone. I am the type to ask, not tell, somebody to do something, but I am a really good worker on my own, so I was given the responsibility of managing a team. I've been doing it for 6 years now, and I am the goofy boss that tries to get everyone laughing, lots of praising and just keep it upbeat to the point they don't even realize how hard they're actually working.
The hardest part for me is when somebody deviates from the instructions I gave them, or says I didn't explain something enough (that really enrages me because I go above and beyond getting tools ready, going over work instructions and prints and getting retention samples). Aside from just doing the job for them, idk what else I can do to satisfy them at that point.

It’s driving me insane, and the idea that I just have to put up with it forever because people (and society at large) won’t change depresses me to no end. I’m not on a mission to change the world anymore like when I was younger, but I still try to change things on a smaller level, and it feels like not even that is working. As an INFP I actually do a great job of using BOTH Ne (gathering) and Si. It's the Fi-Te issue I struggle with. The big struggle is using the Ne and Si in a defensive way instead of in an extraverted way. The C-PTSD from long-term childhood, physical abuse didn't help either. When we use our Ne defensively questioning others ways, we're protecting and not growing enough in an extraverted way, Ne. We no longer live life by the surprises it can offer, or enjoy what life can bring beyond our Fi ideals. We can't always trust our Fi. The introverted energy is like gravity. We can't always rely on it. It's good to question it.

My job is basically explaining technical concepts (Te) to customers while at the same time pretending to be warm and friendly (Fe). I'm still not the best at my job but I learned how to use my Te in order to try and respond in a logical effective manner and also how to act professional even though us INFPs value authenticity so much. Developing my inferior function and a shadow function exhausts me everyday but these functions unfortunately have value not only at my job but also in the real world. I'll use these more developed functions at my next experience which will hopefully be something I'm more passionate about.

It was awful and such a relief to be at my new place but even though the reward is higher it can get me down every week. It helps that I liket my coworkers and I get noticed for my work occasionally.

Hey guys, I discovered your channel yesterday and have been binge watching (& many times replaying) your videos. They’re super clear and informative, love the short format as well. I really like the layered approach of starting with an either or question and now I’m all into trying to understand if my friends are Deciders or Observers - I’m having a lot of fun! Question: all the tests I’ve done online (sometimes taken the same multiple times) I got ENFJ as a result. And I could truly relate to that, still can. However, last year I went through major life changing events, professionally & relationship wise, which really pushed me into digging into my self (above the tribe). Now, I feel more secure and stable and when I re-did the test today, I got INFP - which I saw is the mirror to ENFJ. Is it possible that I change personality type due to life events (ENFJ -> INFP) or, is it that I had to face & work with my Demons/shadow, and now have a more stable relationship between my Fe and Ti as an ENFJ (which is mistaken for an INFP through the rest)? Is there a way to find out? Thank you so much for sharing all this content, it’s mind-blowing!

This makes a lot of sense, I base my life and actions off of morality but science and facts also play a huge part in how I perceive the world and myself. I am unwilling to compromise my morals but am becoming more willing to compromise my comfortablity in my life. I truly hate confrontation and all my life I would put off any type of confrontation until it was impossible to deal with the issue passively. I am an animal rights activist because animals are the most oppressed individuals and I feel a strong moral imperative to stand up for them. Even tho I hate confrontation I force myself to compromise this because fighting for the rights of animals is the most important thing to me, I’ve never felt so strongly about something in my entire life. I would say this likely makes me an si, I base my decisions on morality but make sure to also consider science and logic. When I went vegan the biggest factor was that my actions didn’t align with my morals when I ate meat, then I thought about the animals and put myself in their situation and I could almost feel all their pain it effected me so profoundly. After that I did as much research on the science and the logical decision was to go vegan because it was the best action that fit my morals plus I knew the science and was confident in my decision. Now I am an activist, even tho the world is such a horrible place I cannot waste my only opportunity to help the animals.

I like the way you integrate these functions, you seem to have a solid grasp of the concepts, and you explain it very well, with occasional humor included.
I've reconciled my Fi (Ne) and Te in my faith. My savior is an ACTUAL savior! Identity vs. tribe is resolved by recognizing that my "tribe" exists, but not on this earth. My citizenship is in heaven.
SO, the values i possess are those i find in scripture, in the revelation of who God is, and its physical manifestation in the person of Jesus. I trust these values completely (after decades of learning and wrangling), so i don't have to compare my orientation to that of the world. I already know what the world thinks of me, and i'm just FiNe with it.
There's a calm in accepting alien-status as the norm. I know i'm accepted elsewhere, by One whose acceptance far outweighs any sense of alienation here, temporally.
I can be IN the world, but not OF it. I can speak these values fearlessly. Some will hear, the vast majority will not, but i know this going in.
I don't have to wring my hands about being accepted, or concern myself with what i'm going to get out of it. "It" is its own reward. Peace, contentment, fearlessness, wholeness of mind.
I'm biased, but am also an example of how yielding to God, in Jesus, is (to me, at least) a best-case scenario to resolve the issues presented here, for what the MBTI categorizes as INFP. Best of both worlds, you could say. This one, then the next. It's perfect. The only pressure on me is to speak the scriptural truth, which my Fi can do all day long. People can and will disagree, but that is already a known quantity.
    Piece of cake.

INFP here!!! I wouldn’t say I’m a huge hunger knowledge beast; just in certain topics relating to things like understanding others and how they work (makes sense since I’m very passionate about MBTI). My boyfriend is a INTP though, and he loves to go off on tangents and spontaneously research into things, but I only tend to do that when it’s something more personal and connected to emotions and how people work. I can read for hours about how each type works or how sociopaths are formed, but I’m generally satisfied with a basic understanding of a topic anywhere not connected to any meaning. Not sure if that goes for all INFPs, but that’s just my experience!!! I hope that helps!

It’s also possible that in this case you’re meaning it simply in the practical sense that there’s only one of me trying to move an entire herd of the Tribe, basically being outnumbered.

      @princessonuoha79 Před 6 lety +18

I think INFPs can also go through that. Especially if they lean more towards Fi-Ne than Fi-Si like Dave mentioned. I've experienced that too. You know what you want deep down, you really do, but your Ne can think of all the things that could go wrong, or the other side of things, and u find it easy to question yourself. Or even, you know what u want, but it doesn't align with the tribe, so u question yourself. You could still be an INFP.
And if you are, the key is to spend some more time with yourself, and accept what comes to you without judgement. You can figure it out from there, but introspection is key.

Cstank5 - Correct, if it's their top Animal. An INFP cannot have Si-Te (Blast) or Ne-Te (Play) as their first Animal, but they can have one of them as their second. A Sleep first INFP (Fi-Si) can have either Consume (Fi-Ne) or Blast (Si-Te) as their second Animal. A Consume first INFP (Fi-Ne) can have either Sleep (Fi-Si) or Play (Ne-Te) as their second Animal. There are 4 possible combinations of 1st & 2nd Animals for each type.

I guess a Consume-Play INFP (Fi-Ne, Ne-Te) would be focused on gathering abstract concepts based on their personal values (Fi-Ne Consume) and then be finding ways to implement these abstract concepts in the real world (Ne-Te Play).
