- This is a new and improved version of this video. Updated, improved and reuploaded.
In this video I'm showing you how to wire and connect up the basic PC cables in your case, with everything from the standard PC case cables (HD audio, front panel power button and reset, USB-A and USB-C connections) to wiring in your motherboard power, HDD and SSD connections, GPU power and more. I'm showing these connections outside the case, with how and where to connect these cables on the motherboard, so it's really easy to see which cables connect where, how to plug them in and what they do.
Hopefully this guide will give you some helpful guidance on each of these steps, with generic connectors that are basically the same on every PC build you're likely to do. So if you've come here after watching a case guide elsewhere or are just building yourself for the first time then this should help you work out where the most important cables go.
If you get stuck I also have a few other guides on specific things that might be useful and worth watching:

Finally someone willing to go over the wiring instead of blowing though the video to show off their free build. Thank you for taking the time to explain the things the manufacturers don’t.
I always try to go into a lot of detail. So subscribe for more.
So true!
This is helpful.
I'm currently building my first PC. You just helped me to get everything done easily. Thank you for your detailed video!
Glad to help! Take a look at this playlist and you might find some other useful tips! czcams.com/video/5BIeKjRT3rI/video.html
I'm beyond glad I stumped your channel. I'm currently working on my first build ever. Needless to say there's a lot to learn. You're really coming in clutch with the videos!
Glad to help!
Very timely for new beginners building their very own first pc. While I was able to get by with the simplest or basic stuff from videos during my first build-when it comes to plugging in connectors, you need only rely on the manuals that come with your components. And I'm sure many will be able to get it right the first time just by doing that.
Thank you
Incredible presentation. The way you showed the wiring process both outside and inside the case really made it clear. Don’t know if I’ll attempt to build my next computer myself, but it’s still great to see how it’s done.
Thanks! It's fun to do, you should try
Fairly detailed instruction video that demands some hands on experience to get acqainted with all the various cables and connectors. This video shall remain a reference point in the case we get stuck ! Valuable and helpful !!!
Quality instruction, helped a lot.
Dear friend I had more than 10 years that did not assemble a PC and thanks to your channel and the quality of content you have I have been able to do it perfectly.
For work reasons I have used the last few years laptops and despite being high-end, once you return to the desktop station you realize the big difference ..., congratulations and keep it up.
Bought my own parts for a new PC build because my current one is massively outdated and found your channel and have been watching your videos. Watching the entire playlist and im hoping by the end of it building my new PC will be a massive breeze. Love your work keep it up.
Hopefully it will be easy
Ive been looking for a video just like this, thank you!! Clear explanation of the what/where/why on each cable, great visuals (inside and out of the case), AND examples from a few different motherboard brands!
Im only half as terrified to do the motherboard swap that I need to today!! 😬
Really handy video. Very detailed. Doing my first build today so this is much appreciated, thanks!
Thank you
This is soo helpful!! I can’t thank you enough!!! God bless your soul man! I’m very confident putting together my first PC now.
Best of luck! Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed enough to subscribe 🦐
Honestly, the exact video I've been needing. At the perfect timing too.
Glad to be useful!
Just amazing videos man. Exactly what I was looking for, and that too on the same mobo. Hats off to the lovely prawn 🎉
Thanks! Glad to help you out
I would like to say thank you for your videos. It helped me a lot builing my first PC! You metioned everything I was confused about.
Thanks for taking the time to say this. I appreciate it
This is a video I’m going to rewatch a lot
Hope it helps.
@@TheProvokedPrawnI’m at that dreaded day almost done assembling my first build up to the cabling. Using your video for help
@@TheProvokedPrawn it helped a lot, got my first ever build all running and it is a beast. Appreciate your videos a lot
Thank you very much for doing this video! I watched two other "detailed" videos similar to this and thought I had it all. However, there were 2 very crucial details you pointed out on your video that I had not done, which were not mentioned on any other videos I've watched! Thank you very much for providing this guide and being who you are in it! Also, Happy Easter! :D
Glad it was helpful! Hope you enjoyed enough to subscribe
thank you so much I've been wanting to build my own system this has been the biggest put off i will defiantly be coming back to this for reference truly thank you again you're a legend
Glad to help.
Very detailed explanation. Thanks. Modern PSU is so much easier than decades ago which doesn't have any identification at the PSU and the cables.
Thanks for your support.👍🦐
Well I somehow managed to get one that doesn't have any identification on them :) it's been 7 hours since I started building this :)))
@@Echo-uo2ucdamn how did you go?
Freakin hate the case front panel connectors.
fr it took me like 15 mins bc mine arent the block its seperate parts to stick them in
@praseodi seriously tho. just upgraded my case and it was so tedious. Specially the single cable ones they spin around on the connector and makes it hard to push in place and flush with the Power and reset connectors
@@loudtwinkiesxd98can u help me lol I put mine in and it was all spinning but my led wasn’t lighting up then when I plugged in my led it won’t turn on now 😂
That what I’m saying

The moment I heard "Hellooww" I fell in love with your voice.. I really liked how you explain everything in detail, another subcriber here!! 🙃
Thanks! Glad to help 👍🏼❤️
This what I've been looking for. And such a detailed presentation is absolutely amazing. Thank you good sir 🙏 👏

This might help too czcams.com/video/xT36IDSQBX4/video.html
Glad you updated the last video that didn’t have the f panel things separately
👍
Plugging all the cables into the PSU before you install it is SUCH A GOOD SHOUT! I did not do this on my first build and God I wish I did! XD
Yeah it really helps
Very helpful, love your videos love the step by step so helpful.
Thanks so much!
New sub, nicely detailed examples. Your voice is also awesome. Cheers

TYSM. BRO UR THE ONLY VID THAT ACTUSKKY MADE SINCE U JUST GOT A SUSCRIBER😁😁😁
Your previous video was super helpful! This one is probably even better, but it's too late. 😊
sorry!
@@TheProvokedPrawn, I didn't mean it like that! It's been over 20 years since I built a PC and your video helped a lot! Nearly every connector is different from what I was used to. (They did throw in some of the old style power connectors just to comfort me, but I didn't use them) I just didn't notice that you had a newer video until after my build was done. (I'm typing this on the new PC)
You always making the best videos
Thanks Daniel.
Awesome vids keep them coming
When will you be showing us the new Corsair Link set up

Thank you for you video man it greatly helped. Moving on to the Corsair wiring one now. I also wasn’t aware that nzxt sold motherboards I’ve seen 50/50 reviews on their products so I’m afraid to buy them. How is the board?
Thanks for watching..hope I'm helping! NZXT's boards are based on Asrock stuff from what I gather and they've been perfectly fine from what I've seen. Cheap and cheerful but no problems
great video. very informative
Thanks Harry. Hope you enjoyed enough to subscribe 🦐
I did and I followed all the steps. Unfortunately my build was not succesful. The motherboard (Asus Z790-H Gaming Wifi) displays a constant red light. Only 1 fan of the 3 additional top fans work. The GPU (Nvidia 3060TI)won't display an image on an external monitor and the PC only powers up and off when I shut down the PSU and not the powerbutton on the case. The PSU was a nightmare and no manual was provide besides a one-page warning (?). Phanteks AMP¨V2 1000W/. Going crazy here 😞@@TheProvokedPrawn
Top notch again. By the way do you captain the Aberdeen to Heathrow flight? You sound exactly like him. What gate we arriving at matey?
Hahaha. No. Imagine that. Pilot by day, Prawn by night.
This absolutely fantastic. Only thing we got confused on was our gpu.
Glad to help
Çok iyi ve gereki bir rehber olmuş.
Çok naziksiniz. Teşekkür ederim.
Great vid nonetheless, but at 4.30 did you put the Power SW on the Reset connection, and the Reset plug on the Power SW connection? ;)
Thanks big time, you saved me $200 ❤
Glad to help

@@TheProvokedPrawn oh, I was subbed already :)
Man, just turned on my pc build yesterday and damn leds all over the place in the z790 asus mob, first the white one then red one.
No clue what's wrong, checked them cables and reseated rams, ssds, the damn aio even, little paste applled only, all cables connected and no gpu daisy chain.
Any clue what can be going on?
Pc partpicker says my components match well together (14700kf, thermal right frame, 4070ti, 16x2 kingston, 6000mhz, deep cool aio, 1000rmx corsair) 😢
thanks you 4 this vid! love it!
Thanks for watching
Make sure you always use the power cords that come with you PSU. If you change your PSU you will have to change all the cables to match your new one.
Very useful video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
Hey Prawn how about the PWM cable that attaches to the PWM Repeater hub that comes in the Corsair 7000x and other Corsair cases. Where is the best place to connect this four pin connector on a motherboard? I have a MSI Carbon Edge WiFi which has 5 SYS_FAN headers on it. I assume it can plugged into the closest one on the board? Thanks and again love your content!
You're best referring to the motherboard manual but probably all the sys fan headers will be PWM controllable.
If u have a 6 pin and 8 pin gou would it be best to use two separate cables
Thanks!
Thank you for the Super thanks. Glad you found it useful. I've got also got a playlist on how to build a gaming PC that you might find helpful
Question for wiring Lian li lancool ii mesh performance case, crosshair viii extreme mobo, and 5950x. Do I need to use all of the cpu power slots on the mobo, or just one of the 2? (There are 2 8pin slots), also: on the mobo, under the psu connector there is a 6pin pcie slot. Do I need to wire this to the psu? I'm assuming it provides power to any pcie components I add, like usb c connections?
Thank you so much!!!!
No worries. Glad it helped
yo thank u so much u have saved me

Hello there✋👋 i just wanted to know do you have to take of the front cover of the pc
Do we really need the extra 4 pin connector on the CPU if we have the 8 pin connected? ? I have an asrock Mb and asrock said no. What's your opinion plz? thx
Is there a way to convert a SATA power supply connector into a 3 or 4-pin system fan connector that goes directly into the motherboard? I'm building a new PC and my case front dual ARBG fans have a SATA connector and ARGB connector with 3 holes. The fans also seem to have like a 4 or 5 pin connectors that are plugged to that SATA connector.
Hi Provoked Prawn. I believe I have the same motherboard. I plugged in my USB-A plug into the right location on the motherboard, which I assume leads to the usb-a's on the front panel of my case (Fractal Torrent). When I plug a device into the usb-a plug on the front panel, my device is detected properly and says it's "charging". But after 20 minutes, it didn't charge my device at all. Do you know why my usb-a is not providing power to my devices?
I don't miss the f_panel connections all being separate tiny plugs!
hi, Im going to build my first pc and i have questian, can I use intel xmp ram on am5 motherboard or should i buy expo compatible ram?
I have the rx 7900 xtx and it has 3 8 pin connections so i'll have to use the pig tail psu connector. Do I plug in the one on the end or the middle of the cable?
.You have great audio mate.
Thank you
.You are most welcome. Have a good rest of your day.@@TheProvokedPrawn
I'm so confused about SATA connectors! I have my B650M K motherboard from Gigabyte and I'm trying to get it wired up with the thermaltake 600w smart series PSU and it has SATA 6 pin connectors. Do I need to connect those? Do I need to replace my PSU? Could you recommend a PSU that can pair with the 5500XT 8gb (400w recommended)
Hi, at 4:32 shouldn't the power sw be plugged on the top row and the reset one on the bottom? Just curious.
Did you just connect the power switch on the reset pins at 4:32 ?
Sorry for me it is the most complicated part and now I'm super confused haha
At 4:30, didn't you put the "Power SW" in the slots for the "Reset SW"?
Does every motherboard have a type-E plug to attach the 3.1 gen2 cable?
question, at 4:32, isn't power swithc suppose to be on top and reset on bottom? not trying to be an "umm actually guy", genuine question cause im trying to follow it with what you did for HDD LED and Power LED
Wait your able to connect the power sw to the reset sw pins?
I'm assembling my first build, literally right now I'm taking a break to look for some help. My motherboard has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers, and I attached mine to the bottom one, instead of the one on the side. My motherboard is already in the case, almost everything else is wired up. I am trying to disconnect the cable from the header so I can change it to the side header, giving me more space in the lower opening. Is there some trick to getting these things off?
good morning i have an Aorus elite AX V2 B550 mobo i dont see a spot for a PSU to CPU on board there is a cable marked psu/cpu that came with seasonic psu is different than any place on board do i have to have one thank you for your help
My rx 7900 xt has 3x8pin connectors is it okay to connect another pcie to cpu+pcie slot in psu?
Quick question, do you need the usb cable to be plugged in? Mine says usb 3.0 and cant be plugged in since a part of my case gets in the way? Is this a huge problem?
No just use the USB on your motherboard
Can I plug in one 8 pin power cable into the top left slot for CPU power and still be okay? I’m running a 12700k that was previously on a motherboard with one 8 pin slot
Theoretically yes. They're generally used for overclocking and extra power draw from what I understand. I personally would try to connect both but you might be ok
So if I have 10 fans and 6 are rgb. And I have 2 rgb hubs that can hold 3 each I only need to plug in the cables that power the fans. How many usb ports would I need for the 10 fans
i have ran out of fan plug in on my motherboard the fans i’m using are 3pin what should i do? my motherboard is the rog b550 and i only see one fam plug in i’m using the h9 flow case which has 4 stock fans
it’s not letting me push in the hd header further. is it normal? or do i have to apply force. i checked the pins and i put it correctly
Have you got a vid on where the fan cables go on the mobo?
I have various fan videos. Here's one czcams.com/video/jvXCbny-Suw/video.html
If I’m not running a SSD/Hardrive/RGB Nodes do I need to use the SATA cables?
If you have no SATA devices, then you don't need any SATA cables.
Hey i recently build a Pc with 10 fans but the problem is it’s pretty loud the fans are constantly running on max speed and I can’t change it even in Bios the fans just don’t response
Hi i have a question at 4:41 regarding that blue usb cable, it seems i have only 1 of these connections on my MSI PROZ790-A motherboard correct me if im wrong . if so is there something i could do for this or did i just loose 2 usb ports since i have no available socket .My case is a Corsair 7000d airflow Thank you
It's pretty standard to only have one connection sadly so yeah you won't be able to use all the front ports. I've not found a good solution other than having a fancier motherboard
That's to bad i did not know this before buying this board ,i've checked motherboards with the 2 connections and their price range is crazy . Thanks for your time .Great channel
Is it normal to have tje pcie connector with only 7 pins out of 8 on the gpu side ?
Would you be able to show if and how we can use lian li fans with icue software
Hmmm. I doubt you can do that tbh. Signal RGB might be the way to do it but you can't usually sync different brands apart from via motherboard software and even that is flakey
Dam not sure if its just me but l connect is a bit disappointing
my motherboard doesnt take the blue usb 3 0 one? why is it made like this my last case came with a black one that fits perfect. i have a b550ma
How do I get another pcie cable if I need three cables and the power supply only came with 2
Check if the brand that sells the PSU also sells extra cables. Corsair certainly does.
Anyone know why when I try connecting the motherboard cable into the motherboard, it doesn’t let me push in any further and fully lock into place?? Please help
14:33 which PSU is that? The one which has both ends 12v connection.
I think that's a NZXT one but most Corsair ones have it. Just look for ATX 3.0 compatible PSUs
im stuck on my ceres 300 build :c i gotta nzxt z790 motherboard and i dont know how to do the white cords in the back, they attached to fans but idk what to do

You need something like this amzn.to/3NFeUK4
Thank you
So late but for some reason I can’t find that cable the one that has HDD LED Power LED+ and minus and all them I don’t have that cable for some reason
how do u split 2x4 cable for cpu it’s so hard i don’t want to break it
4:30 didnt you...put the power cable where the reset should be?
4070 just has one 1x8. So it would be straight from the gpu to psu?
Yup
There is also another pcie cable I got with 3 heads. Would I use only 2 head instead of the 3 since If I use the 3 head one which dangle out. Thanks@@TheProvokedPrawn
Can anyone help me? My motherboard does not have a USB type c connection i can connect the case cable to. What will this affect? Do i need an adapter? Otherwise, great video!
I'm not aware of an adapter. It would just mean you couldn't use the USB-C connector on your case.
