- Hello everyone, I hope you are having a better week than me, turns out I did not have a spider bite as I thought it is actually shingles, oh joy.
Anyway, I have finished my Cottlesloe Bathers, by Megan Nielsen and they have worked out quite well for a test pair. I then made the Tabor V-neck vest and finally I made the Nerida Hansen half Sleeve dress, I'm very pleased with all of my makes this week.

It is the Half Sleeve Dress pattern I used in the Art Deco Fabric from a bespoke box from The Dahlia Sewciety.

I’m so sorry for the discomfort and pain you are in Deb and l hope this shifts soon. Lovely makes and great choice on your deco dress. Thank you for sharing your experience with working on tencel which l’ve yet to sew. I may have only ever hemmed some jeans back in the 90s when they were all of the rage. Take care. 🤗

Oh no, that is not good Deb. It sounds like you managed to start on the medication early enough - I pray that it is super effective and you recover nice and quickly. Your first pair of bathers are looking pretty impressive. I particularly love the white blouse and the effect of the wide band in the crossed over v neck style. This is very flattering and certainly should be a tried and true pattern. A band at the bottom hem would be a nice finish for a future sew. Take care. 🌸
Thanks Julie, I think anything made in a cotton fisherman knit needs to be finished with bands, it would give a nicer finish, but I love that pattern and the vest doesn’t take much fabric. Have a great sewing week, Deb 🪡🧵💕
you have been productive 🔥You have my sympathy re the shingles I had it in December and (apart from the eye) in the same position as you. Had my shingles vaccination (part 1 of 2) yesterday so hopefully Ill never get it again Keep on with the pain meds x

Know exactly what you mean about the cover stitch machine!! I started making the Cottesloe but must have picked the wrong size because I can’t even get my lining on. Your Cottesloe looks great - love the fabric.

Hi Deb - Kristy here. I'm a newer aussie subscriber and wanted to come out of lurking to send some encouragement to you. Shingles pain can be 10/10 - you're a trooper! I hope you're able to recover quickly and the pain fades fast.

Oh Deb, what a grap thing to get at the start of your new stage of your life 😮😢. I have just caught up with your vlog, I could see in some of your movements it's causing pain. Your makes are good, great idea with the detachable scarf shall I age myself by saying : good thinking 99 : take care of yourself and rest, so feet up and a good book or fellow vlogers. Oh Deb, you poor thing with the shingles. You look in pain and in your eye too. Must be very very painful glad you got to the anti viral meds quick enough. My Mum is just recovering from the shingles, has it on the neck and throat. She didnt get to the anto virals quick enough, it has been very incomfortabl3 for her. You're marvellous to still do a vlog, loved seeing all your makes. The bathers look great. Well done . Feel better soon ❤

Hi again, just wanted to add a note of encouragement - when i had it the pain wasn't too bad, it didn't last long and there were no long-term symptoms. Hope that helps a little. Jen

Oh Deb, so sorry to hear you have Shingles and sounds like a horrible dose too. I believe it is incredibly painful. I just hope that between the pain killers and the antivirals you can recover quickly the pain subsides just as fast. Hopefully you will feel up to sewing very soon. You have certainly been busy. Your bathers look fabulous and I’m sure you can get the fit right as you’re so competent. Your art-deco dress looks great and love the way you styled it. Don’t think I will bother with fisherman’s knit after the problems you encountered - it does look good though. Anyway, take care and get well. Look forward to your vlogs 🥰
Thanks Julie, the fisherman knit I would only sew again if it had bands on every edge, but I think the pattern is wonderful, I can see a few more of these this Winter. Hi Deb sorry to hear about your shingles. I just had the two shingrix vaccinations and strongly hope that will protect me. As Dr was giving me the shots he said a patient had contacted shingles even after vaccinations. 😱 Very brave of you to model your bathers. They do look great on you. Love the dress also. So very, very sorry about the shingles and hope you recover very quickly. I think your swimsuit is lovely and so professional. Would love to see the Sew House Seven top extended to dress length. Love that v neck style and pleased to hear the instructions are good. The styling of your Art Deco fabric is so original and imaginative- and what a great excuse for new shoes 😂😂. I have that Simplicity pattern so keen to see what it looks like made up. Such useful tips on needle choice for tencel. Oh Deb, I feel for you. I've had it (twice!) and have just recently (when it became free) gotten the vacc. Hopefully the pain you're currently experiencing will be minimal and that you are back on your feet very soon.

I am terrified of having shingles. I went a got my shingles vaccines this year. Even though i had to pay for them. I know having the vaccines may not stop me getting shingles but they might reduce the symptoms if i do get shingles. I feel a lot of empathy for you.

Hi Kylie the shingles vaccination is one of the most effective vaccines out there, my doctor thinks it should be for anyone over 50
@@dbdesignsandsewingaustrali5668 I agree. I am turning 55 this year so I had to pay for both doses. Which gives me up to 10 years protection. As for ratio of protection it's 90% effective but less so for those who are immunocompromised ie HIV, cancer etc. But given that shingles symptoms, pain etc so ghastly and you generally don't heal to level of health you were before the shingles attack I highly recommend. I know pharmacists in Australia are fighting the 65 year old be reduced to 50 year olds because it would save lots of money in the economy, health system which is already buckling etc.
You poor dear; I have seen a few friends going through the pain, etc. One was especially bad because it was around an eye and also around his chest. When our kids turned 50 we nagged them so much that they went in for the vac. My husband and I got the vac. quite a few years ago and then the booster about 4 years ago. Hope you encourage all your friends to get the vac. too.. Would be great if we had medical insurance to cover all disease. Speaking of vaccines, just got another Covid booster. Are the doctors encouraging people to continue with their Covid vaccines in Australia? Cheers. Joan
Thanks Joan, yes my doctor always let me know when I’m due for a new Covid vaccination we have them when they are due, even if you get Covid it lessens the impact. Hi Helen, the doctor said once this has passed I will be good for 12 months, I will only be 64 by then so still not eligible, but I will pay the $600 and get the vaccination as I wouldn’t want to do this again. Have a great sewing week, Deb 🪡🧵💕
