Totally loving my Scharnhorst. I have been using the AP to good effect for most of my games, usually getting shots into the upper belt. HE works well against the angled targets I have to deal with that I know will not eat any AP. I only have Scheer but he seems to be an effective commander. I use his concealment perk to be that much more sneaky, and the speed and rudder shift perks as well. Alongside the engine mod which makes Scharnhorst shift his 40,000 tons of steel around very quickly. Overall just loving the ship and finding it does everything well. Long range engagements are ok but not great, so I tend to use that super long range to cover ground and then beat people to death with his powerful secondary suite and those good torpedoes. As much as I really do appreciate your channel and your breakdown of the vessels, I have to strongly disagree with your analysis of this ship on most levels. Firstly the armament is perfect for what it was designed for, commerce raiding and dealing with escort ships ie cruisers and destroyers. That being said it has a huge advantage over any cruiser it encounters (more guns, bigger caliber, better armor and more hp) when it comes to destroyers it can actually hold its own because it’s more maneuverable and had much faster firing cruiser guns as well as s strong secondary battery and torpedos. There isn’t another BB that can go up against destroyers that have this ability. Now as for going up against other battleships, that can be tricky. Your not going to win a shoot out at range with an Iowa or any tier 6 or 7 BB, but once you learn how to place your AP shots ( upper hull) it becomes much more effective. The Scharnhorse really starts to shines at 11k and under the fast firing 11in guns along with the nearly flat arcs can really start to add up quickly. I also feel the armor is very durable as long as ur at least angled slightly 15 degrees or so it bounces most shots even Iowa guns... I’ve bow tanked Iowa’s under 8k with no citadels through the bow.. in fact I’ve never been citadeled through the bow at any range. Another strength is it’s torpedos at close range, no other BB has those and they are a game changer. Another great aspect about he ship is that is a premium, and that has its own set of economic bonuses, it makes silver and elite xp very quickly. In closing I absolutely appreciate your channel and respect your gaming abilities and the time it takes to make these videos, which I have learned a lot from. I just respectfully disagree with your point of view about purchasing this ship.
Wow! Lots of words. First I want to thank you for supporting my channel. I think I may have left people with a bit of a wrong impression. I personally really enjoy this ship and I agree with most of what you have said. I do not think the average person quite understands what they're getting into with the Scharnhorst, though, and that is essentially it is an over-sized, well-armored cruiser with battleship consumables (pretty much how you've described). I do use AP more often than I show here, though still mostly for cruisers. I think a lot of people aren't going to get good results with AP (and judging by the number of shells from other Scharnhorsts I have bounced or shattered) and I imagine that will frustrate a lot of players. I was also playing with some buddies yesterday, and the number of Scharnhorsts out there was tiny compared to earlier in the week. That makes me worry that the people who are buying her are expecting a capital B battleship experience, and not finding a lot of success. The only thing I'd "disagree" with is that I have also gotten citadeled by Iowa's at medium range while bow tanking... several times. I could just be unlucky, but that said, I don't expect that the Scharnhorst should beat the Iowa under fair conditions. Its always good to be weary of an Iowa in its current state. That said, I am not exactly "God's gift to botes" (not by a long shot) and I appreciate that you have disagreed with me respectfully. What I really try to do in these videos is give my honest opinion about the strengths and weaknesses of different ships. In my reviews, I also try not to showcase my best game and give people an unrealistic expectation of anything they're considering purchasing. In this case, I felt the best way to go about this was to first pump the breaks on the enthusiasm for German ships, try to tell people what the Scharnhorst can do so that way if they do purchase the ship, they're accepting a risk they understand.

Good stuff. I like that you advocate using HE, which ties into it playing more like a battlecruiser or supercruiser anyway. Nothing wrong with using the ship in multiple ways. I managed to get Ciliax, promoted him to 11, got a dupe so made him Legendary, and threw rank 11 legendary Cunningham and also rank 11 legendary Madden on for inspirations. Right now the reload using Brawler (along with Madden) is 17.7 seconds or so. Secondaries with Porcupine and a secondary build are sitting at 6.4km. I don’t have von Hipper... Scharnhorst is definitely a risk for anyone not willing to be aggressive. The ship is certainly no sniper, and anyone trying to play it that way will be sorely disappointed.
Those guns can be bounced by a Pensacola, so I hate to think what those people running around spamming AP at me are thinking about this ship. I think you're more-or-less doing what I want to do, which would be Ciliax (don't have), with Madden (don't have) and Hipper (don't have) as inspirations. Oh well, I'm sure I'm just three or four weeks away from that working out for me, right? I think I forgot to mention that bit about aggressiveness... oh well... I have several other replays that sort of show that off.

I like the scharnhorst, its a german brawler best played around the 10km mark, guns work best at them ranges as the desperation on german BBs aren't the best. With 11in its a cruiser killer, you find a battleship escorted by cruisers you can easily make that bb lose all its friends lol. Need point bow straight at an enemy to bow tank, any angle to either side well get you a crit hit against. The scharnhorst is one of the ships that needs a battleship commander and it benefits alot from their perks, full on secondary built is the way to go as can push out their range to 7.4km and back them up with the 6km torps. Have remember that this ship in rl was built as a merchant ship killer, the thought was it didn't need higher caliber guns then 11in but later on there were designs to upgrade to 15in guns but it was sunk and never got chance to receive them. Thats my 2 cents worth lol
I think its a great ship, I bought it yesterday. This thing makes lots of silver, which I need as the higher teir ship are so expensive and cost so much to run.
Also Scharnhorst was a fast Battleship, it wasn’t a super Cruiser or battlecruiser, it had Battleship armour but ww1 and before Guns tho, but as I said when He was built it was classed as a fast Battleship, like the Kongo, it was upgraded into a fast Battleship, Iowa and bismarck are the same, they are fast Battleships
Yeah, nice looking ship, but likely frustrating for many players. Not worth $60.00 for a ship suffering an identity crisis. Hint to Wargaming, anything above $20.00 for a bunch of pixels, that will likely suffer from power creep in the future (you have a track record), is a no sale in my book. I'll wait for the tech tree battleships, especially Bismarck. I'm currently working up the German Cruiser line, since that's all there is, and they're well balanced. Awesome vid Tacticangel. Really underestimating the utility of the Scharnhorst's 11 inch AP here. Don't shoot angled enemies at the belt armor. Use your superior rate of fire to shred their bow, stern and superstructure. Remember that normal penetrations do 33% of the shell's stated max damage. That adds up very quickly when you have 9 shells to throw every 20 seconds and are confident your shell can detonate in the squishy parts, rather than overpenetrate. This logic applies to Brandenburg as well. German 11 and 12 inch guns have surprising penetration.
When fighting against these I find them really annoying to fight due to that turtle back armour. If it wasn't so expensive I'd definately have one but already having the atlanta another tier 6 isn't really needed. If anything I find them borderline overpowered for the tier :P
The scharnhorst is a great ship I have no fears about going up against any t7 in mine when you get bb commander you will definitely see the difference using her for me using ap works just aswell as he tbh and you can score very good damage either way
Scharnhorst is one of the best BB's in the game! Her AP is deceptively good when fired above torpedo belts. She has the best armor layout of any BB in the game making her almost impossible to citadel. Did I mention she has torpedoes? Lol. I almost never fire HE with her. She has poor HE damage and poor fire chance. I only use HE when firing at long range BB's. Her only weakness is HE. She takes large amounts of damage from HE shells and is quick to burn. P.s. I didn't buy her, I got lucky and got her in a free Halloween crate. I got my first Kraken with her.

I don't think so. Scharnhorst came out before there were three columns for displaying artillery, torpedoes, AA etc. Similar to how the Kidd's AA didn't list its main battery as part of the AA defense when it came out, I think they just didn't have the room to show it on screen
If I could only own 1 ship that would be the Scharnhorst, no other BB or cruiser is as flexible as this amazing vessel. You should aim higher to superstructure and turrets and you will see better results, keep the HE to destroyers and use that magnificent AP for everything else. Hipper is my Commander with Cunningham and Jaujard as inspirations. My AP penetration is brutal with Jaujard and my accuracy/ dispersion improved by Cunningham. Battleships spamming is what this game doesn't need at all, for that we already have enough Kutuzovs, Atlamtas, Mogamis etc doing it, shoot AP.
Not gonna lie I went toe to toe with 1 he had already fired and missed with torpedoes and his secondary tire me a new 1...I will forever hate that ship now lmao
@@tacticangel I'll have to try to get one or both of them and try different builds. I played mine today and ate a bunch of torpedoes in one match (lack of awareness on my part), and got slammed by a Nelson in the next match. I obviously need to work on positioning as well...
Scharnhorst AP is underrated they are really effective only thing is when firing at a bb with the 283s you have to aim for standard pens above the belt. Those guns cant punch threw the belt on most bbs so aim above the belt and get lots of pens 😁
17:58 - So you've already let the first fire burn almost all the way through on you, and then even when he gets a second fire on you and you're about to die you still refuse to use your damage control party? I don't understand, did you like space out there or something and not realize it had been off cool down and ready to go for a while now by that point? You clearly had your damage control party right there ready to go but refused to use it even after picking up a second fire onboard? Why were you not damage controlling any of those fires as you were getting closer and closer to death? Obviously putting out those fires wasn't going to save you from going down or anything, but the point would be to maximize your lifespan as much as possible so you can rack up as much damage as you can before being taken out.
Except Bismarck, The Germans was Bismarck too powerful to be female, you can look it up and even Sabaton history says Bismarck was a he, King of the ocean
That sounds pretty wrong to me and I am german. Of course Gneisenau is a name so maybe it is still pronounced like you say however then I locked up the pronounciation online and all of them pronounce the "G".
I think the devs have nerfed it so as to not have the usual "PAY TO WIN" complaints that would insue. By the same token though they need to make it powerful enough to justify the HUGE price tag, which is insane, especially here in Australia..... hope the next German premium is more worth it!

Went through all that in world of tanks. The real life scharnhorst might have been better but in game they need to come to a compromise. It does piss me off that usually these premium ships/tanks are really no better than the tier of ships they are with, I find it usually makes them no where near worth the money. I think they really should either drop the price or give them something a little better than just a slightly higher rate of fire.... or a small amount of speed buff. I'll just work my way to the German ship of the same class and not pay $100+ for the bragging rights of saying I have it. But I guess for those willing to drop a bag of cash on a ship.... they can go for it... I must admit I find that ship can be a bit of a pain of the ass to deal with in battles.... I do get satisfaction and have a little chuckle when I sink one 🤭👍
Huh? They were never more powerful than the British. But she was the most succesful bb/ bc that the Germans had. Her guns were never intended to engage other bbs infact the leader of the German navy Specifically ordered the co To not engage other bbs her primary duty is was to sink convoys. While the german subs were impressive they never owned the sea. The Japanese had a far more powerful than the Germans did.

I don't think so. Scharnhorst came out before there were three columns for displaying artillery, torpedoes, AA etc. Similar to how the Kidd's AA didn't list its main battery as part of the AA defense when it came out, I think they just didn't have the room to show it on screen
Ok that makes sense it just looked different on my game. I didn’t think about the aa change in the stats page.
If I could only own 1 ship that would be the Scharnhorst, no other BB or cruiser is as flexible as this amazing vessel.
You should aim higher to superstructure and turrets and you will see better results, keep the HE to destroyers and use that magnificent AP for everything else.
Hipper is my Commander with Cunningham and Jaujard as inspirations.
My AP penetration is brutal with Jaujard and my accuracy/ dispersion improved by Cunningham.
Battleships spamming is what this game doesn't need at all, for that we already have enough Kutuzovs, Atlamtas, Mogamis etc doing it, shoot AP.
The freaking secondary weapons on this thing is crazy they hit harder than the mains
Well, maybe not harder, but they are a significant advantage if you can get Ciliax and/or Hipper.
Not gonna lie I went toe to toe with 1 he had already fired and missed with torpedoes and his secondary tire me a new 1...I will forever hate that ship now lmao

@@tacticangel I'll have to try to get one or both of them and try different builds. I played mine today and ate a bunch of torpedoes in one match (lack of awareness on my part), and got slammed by a Nelson in the next match. I obviously need to work on positioning as well...

It's going to be Scheer, but the exact build I am not sure about at this point since this was a few revisions of the commander system back.

Scharnhorst AP is underrated they are really effective only thing is when firing at a bb with the 283s you have to aim for standard pens above the belt. Those guns cant punch threw the belt on most bbs so aim above the belt and get lots of pens 😁

I don't understand, did you like space out there or something and not realize it had been off cool down and ready to go for a while now by that point? You clearly had your damage control party right there ready to go but refused to use it even after picking up a second fire onboard? Why were you not damage controlling any of those fires as you were getting closer and closer to death? Obviously putting out those fires wasn't going to save you from going down or anything, but the point would be to maximize your lifespan as much as possible so you can rack up as much damage as you can before being taken out.

That sounds pretty wrong to me and I am german. Of course Gneisenau is a name so maybe it is still pronounced like you say however then I locked up the pronounciation online and all of them pronounce the "G".

I think the devs have nerfed it so as to not have the usual "PAY TO WIN" complaints that would insue. By the same token though they need to make it powerful enough to justify the HUGE price tag, which is insane, especially here in Australia..... hope the next German premium is more worth it!

@@jamesdeanjdspalding-gotthe5986 sorry probably wrong choice of words, didn't hear they nerfed it, just making a point about how premium ships usually can't be that good/better than ships of the same class, or people go nuts about pay to win. Went through all that in world of tanks. The real life scharnhorst might have been better but in game they need to come to a compromise. It does piss me off that usually these premium ships/tanks are really no better than the tier of ships they are with, I find it usually makes them no where near worth the money. I think they really should either drop the price or give them something a little better than just a slightly higher rate of fire.... or a small amount of speed buff. I'll just work my way to the German ship of the same class and not pay $100+ for the bragging rights of saying I have it. But I guess for those willing to drop a bag of cash on a ship.... they can go for it... I must admit I find that ship can be a bit of a pain of the ass to deal with in battles.... I do get satisfaction and have a little chuckle when I sink one 🤭👍

Huh? They were never more powerful than the British. But she was the most succesful bb/ bc that the Germans had. Her guns were never intended to engage other bbs infact the leader of the German navy Specifically ordered the co To not engage other bbs her primary duty is was to sink convoys. While the german subs were impressive they never owned the sea. The Japanese had a far more powerful than the Germans did.
