This video was cRaZy 🤪 to watch because what was demonstrated in this video was quite similar to what I did with the Anhalt when I rented it several weeks ago.
After a thorough review I decided on a Speed-First/Secondary-Second build with Scheer, whom I have at 16/3, Guepratte (16/2), and von Hipper (16/3)
Adding a Speed Flag put the Anhalt a bit over 29 knots if I'm correct, which is what I was looking for. The 27% fire chance told me this is an HE-First battleship which is very odd to consider regarding a German battleship, but it was the logical choice.
I had fun in the Anhalt.
I had good to great games.
The Super Torpedo was a weapon I launched sparingly because ya kinda got to make that particular torpeedie count...and when it did connect...it connected well.
In my advanced age, I'm rediscovering the odd or weird-ish ships in my port all over again...I think that's the hidden appeal of WoW: Legends...to think outside of the box regarding commander builds and how to get a less-desirable ship to be fun to play.
The Anhalt is an odd sort of duck.
This takes time and patience and a lot of players will generally not commit to such an enterprise. We tend to live and die with the easy button ships for that familiar and expected gratification, I was no exception to that for a few years, until recently.
Of all of the videos about the Anhalt, it's this one that gets my vote as the best one.
I've been subscribed to Tacticangel's channel for almost 3 years. And the one thing I can say about him is that he's a critical thinker. He applies logic with various ship builds when it's needed the most, AND here is where he stands out amongst his peers...he shows you how he got there.
That makes the difference.
Tacticangel may not realize this, but he teaches people how to go about the building process and that promotes discovery and it's from discovery that one will gain skill as a thinking player.
Throw in Tacticangel's dry as an empty lake humor, and what ya get is the perfect college professor that will keep one engaged.
I suppose this is my end-of-the year statement of appreciation for this channel and the work that's put into it.
Not to mention his Adam West meets William Shatner delivery is no less than legendary.

I have a working theory that Moony is secretly in a competition to write the most complimentary comment of 2023 or to get me to pin his post. It's possibly something else, but I'll give you the latter for sure.
I definitely could have gone a bit more with speed, but I needed to pull Murray's image into my template anyway, and the extra HP plus extra speed combo wasn't all that bad, but I like that other people have tried odd-ball builds with Anhalt. It's easy to get stuck in a rut, do the same thing on every ship. It's really not needed on this one and, to some degree, you're kind of cutting yourself off at the knees if you even try, I think.
But I actually kind of came to this format as a result of not really knowing what to do with a ship--I don't remember which one--and then just throwing things at the wall until something stuck. Then it became habit. Yeah, somewhat critical thinking; somewhat stubborn determination. In any case, I appreciate the continued support and the many kind words, as always.

I actually use Jellicoe on many British battlecruisers...Hood's concealment is down to 11.2km with him...

I wouldn't fault you for a concealment build in a battlecruiser. That was one of the things I loved about Seigfried at first: biding your time, getting into position, then surprise! Battleship at 11km to your broadside cru--oh... what happened? 😄😄

I got the Anhalt over the Ohio. It doesn't *feel* undergunned in my games so far, no problem getting damage over 100k. Those J class torpedoes hit HARD, however little chance to use them. I use a lot of Japanese BB tactics (kiting away) due to the turret arrangement.
I use von Hipper.
Yeah, Anhalt definitely does well kiting away; probably should have mentioned that. I couldn't pass up a replay with one of the wonkier commander builds I tested and the odd opportunity to actually use those torpedoes. Glad you're enjoying her, though 🍺. I assume you aren't shooting exclusively AP if you're getting to 100k so frequently. 👍

Great gameplay and great commentary. Thanks for going over the video. I do agree after trying it out for rent a while ago the he was the highlight. The one surprising part is all the guns being decent at accuracy is cool .usually alot of guns are like shot guns.

I have to say this was simply a wonderful video...your mixture of humor, sarcasm and history is appreciated. I am a big fan of your others, but this one might be the best. As for the ship itself, I might go for it....a German BB firing HE that has great armor and torps? Yes please!...She might be up there is with my other favorite quirky German BB (and my personal favorite) the Odin....keep up the great work and happy holidays

Thanks for the history & solid review, as usual! This is definitely an odd mix, but great on the Legends team giving us something different. I do like challenging ships to play, but there’s plenty others out there. I’m fairly sure this ship is not for me, and I’m content with Ohio as my future wind rose earner out of this update.

Great first look at this TA, thanks. Everyone is talking Ohio of course but a few people I polled on a FB WOW page said they were getting this instead. Seems a curious beast. and seems very loooong. Big big target so will draw more fire than Godzilla. There is some fun to be had from figuring out the builds and playstyles for these odd-ball ships. I guess that's why WeeGee puts them in the game?
It's actually only a little longer than Bismarck (hard to tell exactly how much) but it's definitely one of the larger targets out there. I get the interest on Ohio, but it's definitely not as different as Anhalt. Are you thinking one or the other?
Hmm...like everyone else I was thinking Ohio but then about a dozen guys said they were going Anhalt and you've shown its more challenging but can be effective, and I do like trying to figure builds and tweaks for ships others don't like, hell I play the Florida, so I'm undecided now. Interesting commander build, I like to find a use for the default commanders. I use the Boss Dewey in the USS Kidd which I think was one of your suggestions?

You're braver than I am. I think the last time I ran Florida it was because someone asked for it on stream (and then someone else joined and asked if I had lost a bet). 😄But yeah, the Boss Dewey thing was me. I'm a bit sad that I can't run it anymore because I am using Dewey on Wichita and a few other American cruisers just to play the detection-radar game.
@@tacticangel I find Florida doesn't play like a battleship, more like a super heavy cruiser. Avoid BBs and hunt CA/CLs

Great review, getting this ship. One its doesn't cost more than campaign fee. Second, don't play legendary teir much.
Admittedly, I don't play Legendary tier much either. It is nice that you can get a ship that you might enjoy instead of the floating citadel that is the campaign ship...
...which doesn't mean it's bad, necessarily... just a bit unforgiving.
Generally I applaud Wargaming's efforts to introduce ships that were never built but were at least plausible (well, except for the majority of the Russian ships in the game, the vast majority of which never got beyond the concept design stage). This one has me really scratching my head, and I think they pretty well missed the mark here. As you pointed out, the L 21a (which Wargaming references in their material) was for 10 15-inch guns, mounted in five twin turrets. Triple turrets never would have been fitted on a German battleship hull designed before 1920, and the 13.8-inch guns don't match any contemporary German battleship design. I wish Wargaming would have just given us a more realistic L 21a, or any of the L 20-24 design series, probably best implemented as a tier-6, with little to no "inter-war upgrade," and twin turrets of 15- or 16.5-inch guns.
I do appreciate, at the very least, the way you carved out Soviet ships. Lots of plans, sometimes a lot of confidence, but no ability to do anything.
The choices on Anhalt are kind of odd, because changing out the main battery doesn't make realistic sense (no matter which way you look at it), but the ship in game is kind of amusing. I'd still be totally into seeing an L21A (or even a "modernized" 1940-something upgrade) in the game with ten 15-inch guns, but... what are you doing to do?
How does Anhalt do with Hyde or AL Scharnhorst or whatever her name is?

Invariably, if I make a guess, it will be wrong so I will just call this musing and you should in no way consider it advice (financial, legal, medical, or otherwise) 🙃. I will say I don't see why should be particularly concerned about the population of Anhalts out there. They seemed a little concerned about the Ohio's performance on stream.
But this is also the time of year where rare ships get introduced and reemerge. The obvious example is Lenin, which hardly needs to be talked about. Another example is Lion, which was certainly a lot better than Monarch for a long time, but it is far from broken and also only has shown up as a super-prize... so that makes me think it's possible neither will be widely available... Still, if I were a cynical businessman, I think the Ohio is more likely to be an effective shiny jingly thing to wave in front of an audience made up of a very high percentage of Americans.

sure shell grouping goes from german to german bad but with 15 shells flying through the air every 22.9sec it really doesn't matter because you're going to hit anyway. porcupine for the meme secondaries, you bought a ship, might as well get the most of it. my thoughts is one might aswell treat Anhalt as a T7 GK with torps and wonky guns
I'm curious about your experience. I never had bad luck with the accuracy when using Ciliax (who doesn't have much or anything to help hit there), but I assume you are probably using a good deal of HE and/or aiming high. My sense is that is probably what is helping you have good results in such an odd ship.

It's a bit longer than a Bismarck, smaller than Großer Kurfürst, but it's hard to tell really how much larger, and I figured it probably wasn't worth another infographic.

To put it into perspective just how lousy the AP pen is on this, it has the same AP pen as König. Yes, the T4 battleship. And it belongs to a family of battleships that are known for kind of underwhelming AP pen.
Is that actually right by the numbers? (I honestly don't know.) 😄It fell SHOCKINGLY bad, but I kind of remember impressions on penetration since there's no way I'm going to remember all of those numbers.
I love the German BBs, but so tired of the undersized guns. If you are going to put these sad guns on a German BB then reduce the load time and put more secondaries on it so I can use it as a brawler. This is the usual middle of road waste of money. He is a handsome lad, as usual though.
Yeah, I get it. More than even undersized guns, the penetration is even worse than you could ever possibly imagine. Being able to aim and know how to play the game to keep your secondaries in the game longer seems (maybe) like a fair trade for not overmatching most targets, but the inability to punish ships in Anhalt is pretty amazing...

but if you can get past that, it can be pretty fun. 😎

Short evaluation: it's not a carry ship and excels at annoying your enemies.
It definitely can do that. Might be a bit challenging to carry, but more or less similar in that case as any HE battleship with poor AA.
