Parents don't realize how much leverage they have over a dependent child and allow this kind of BS. The child will always try to guilt you into submission. And many parents can't deal with that guilt.

no, she's crying because she's affected by how her mother has been treating her. she feels so scared and insecure when her mother starts parenting her because she has been treated like a doll other than a person and she obviously hates the way she is because of how her mother treated her. sometimes, this is what abuse is like. this is abusive because it's neglect. and when you neglect your own child, you destroy her well being and life and a child doesn't know how to cope with it unless they do therapy and see that it's a problem. she's crying because of the unhealthy things she's experienced and she feels so scared because she feels like she'll get more worse when she starts being parented when she won't. it's called healing and she fears being happy because she feels like being happy won't be happy for her.
Now I appreciate my parents not apologizing for parenting us. Disciplining your child is not a crime.

I was more shocked and saddened by her grasp on reality and hope that, with Dr. Phil's help and the new awareness and determination of the mother, that the daughter will have a better chance at life through recognition of what the real world is all about and how she can contribute and become a more effective and empathic individual.
