    Good video! I just put Explorer letters on the back tailgate area but did NOT use the wet method. Bummer. It would have been so much easier. However, I do have two logos and a 1/2" stripe to put on the lower part of the doors. Would you use the so-called hinge method even though these are not large decals? And others have dire warnings if you get the transfer paper wet it will mess up the vinyl and if you don't leave the transfer paper on until it is dry, that will ruin it too. Since you know what you are doing, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask! Thanks!

    Just wondering, how does the adhesive stick when you put the soapy water on?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 5 lety +2

      David Williams that’s a great questions and I don’t have the scientific answer but what I do know is the soapy water will allow you to apply the decal and move it around as needed. You then squeegee all of the water out behind the decal and let it dry. This takes around 24 hours and once dry it is adhered just as well as if you had applied it with no soapy water. The magic of science is at work but I have no idea why the soap doesn’t cause the decal to not adhere.

    • @NevilleTheWizard
      @NevilleTheWizard Před 5 lety +9

      John Engel Essentially when you use soapy water it creates a suction between the adhesive and the plastic bumper. When you squeeze out the soapy water, you are left with straight adhesive to plastic. The water and soap mixture is resistant to adhesive, which allows for it to easily be squeezed out. That’s how it works.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 4 lety

      times N once set it can be a little more difficult. You can try a heat gun and a last resort would be to take a razor blade and put a small nick in the bubble to release the air then use the heat to cinch it down.
