    Pretty decent walk through except not enough emphasis on the extreme delicacy of the LVDS cable pins. I just lost use of my MacBook Pro following this due to a tiny imperceivable touching of a couple pins.

      Most cables are very delicate but this is a track pad video, LVDS cable is for the LCD screen and shouldn't be touched for this trackpad troubleshoot. You should be very confident in working with small components and industry standard connection housings and levers before attempting these repairs. Thank you for the comment and pointing out what could possibly go wrong.

      I am tech savy generally. I had to disconnect and reconnect the LVDS cable to remove the mother board to remove the track pad per your instructions right? I would have gone slower at that point. But it was my risk. Nothing was forced and everything else seemed to go well but unfortunately I have a dead computer now nothing happens at the power switch.

      Reconnect your keyboard, they power button is part of the keyboard, if the keyboard is not plugged in then the power button doesn't work. Also see this article on how to turn the computer on the old fashion way by shorting two logic-board pins to make sure the board is not dead www.insidemylaptop.com/turn-on-macbook-pro-laptop-without-power-button-locating-power-on-pads/

      Thanks. I took it all apart an reinstalled the mother board but this time with the divider not in there as yet and this aided in pulling more of the keyboard tape wire out and making sure when reconnecting it was well seated. After putting all the rest back together I saw and heard the power light and chime come and the little bit of a roar of the fans come on. The computer came on and but the screen is dark and I thought that was a total goner completely until I restarted with the T key down for a firewire connection and I noticed I can barely make out the firewire icon floating on the darkened screen and it is sharp and this makes me hopeful that all is not lost with the monitor. Thanks again for saving the day with the power up and I was able top recover vital files.
      As for the dark screen I have thus tried zapping the PRAM, Reseting the System Management Controller the other popular keyboard trick but thus far to no avail. Still researching that one.

    Hello, my trackpad needs a lot of force to click, do you think its possible too much dirty in edges?

      Could well be, however there is a tri wing adjuster screw to change the clickiness so try that, just don’t tighten too much I’ve seen a smashed one cos of that

      Yes, just type in in ebay 2008 15" macbook pro trackpad it's the A1286 type for 2008 only year.

    Wow...I'm not feeling very confident in my abilities to do this even with the very thorough tutorial. Most other models there are only a few simple steps. How much should one expect to pay for this service?

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  Před 8 lety

      It's based on the local economy but a ball park price as a service is $150-$200 because the logic board has to come out on this model. When it comes to logic board removal the shop takes on responsibility if anything brakes. Make sure that you have a 15" 2008 model, because 2009 and later are a lot easier to remove and clean or replace.
      Also check out this video and get a better idea of functionality of track pads, there are work arounds to some track pad issues: czcams.com/video/erA6dGvc7k8/video.html

      I came here too, to replace a cracked but working trackpad, and I was able to do the replacement. while tricky, with some patience and good lighting I was able to replace the trackpad. took me about 90 minutes. on thing I'll note is that putting the logicboard screws back in, you can lay the fan down first will avoid you having to remember which holes belong to just the logic board, and which holes are for the fan.

    Appreciate the video but the music is distracting as is the low amplitude of the voice.

    This the "Late 2008" .... I have an "Early 2008 that looks substantially different.... my trackpad is actually good.. it's the clicker blade that went bad, and even then, it was actually the spring that somehow gave way and was keeping the switch partially depressed... sigh... I just pulled it out and voila, fixed. Now it looks horrible but it works 100% lol

      Allbbrz I have the same problem as you, but not sure how to fix it. How did you fix it? How do you get the button off? Can’t even use a bluetooth mouse, because the trackpad button is jammed.
