I did a battery upgrade con my 2009 hp laptop now i get up to 4 hours of continuous use plus it has its own little stand which helps add to a half an inch higher from the surface since the laptop has a cooliing fan at the bottom of the unit.
Oh and the ssd upgrade and quad core upgrade also allowed me to install the same amount of ram but with the higher rated bus speeds variants
It runs windows 7 like it was fresh off the market
I could upgrade to windows 10 but unfortunately most of my pcs hardware has no official driver support for windows 10 but windows 8
      And i don't want windows 8
Oh and when running ubuntu on the laptop it makes my pc seem like it was brand new in terms of fluid performance and speeds
But im not too familiar with Ubuntu but i understand that its a good os for developer's

Love videos like this! I put an SSD, 8GB ram and new battery in my old 2009 15" MacBook Pro a couple of years ago and went back to using it as my daily laptop. By modern standards, it was very heavy for the level of performance but the screen, keyboard, trackpad and port selection make that old Mac a surprisingly excellent notebook for basic computing.

2008 brought us a lot of interesting Apple computers. The black and white MacBook Classic units, this aluminum one off, and the final MacBook Pro that uses the non unibody design! Also, slot load drives. I don’t miss them one bit. They have kinda become the SCISI drives of modern Mac’s. Doomed to fail eventually in annoying fashion. Though the 2010 to 2012 models are usually a little more robust.

I did something similar to this with one a parent gave me. The RAM was already maxed and the battery had already recently been replaced. It was also spotless. All I had to do was replace the mechanical drive with an SSD. I also upgraded the OS to El Cap. Now, I mostly use it the same way I would use a netbook when they were a thing. It is reasonably quick and the form factor is amazing.

I installed windows 7starter on it and ive had no problems since, even though i really wanted any version of mac OS on it, but i wasn't gonna put up with it nagging me about power and i did all the reset keystroke tricks many many times.

  • @FlamingPhoenix40
    @FlamingPhoenix40 Před 4 lety +1

I believe the reason why the USB drive won't work on the MacBook is because it has an internal optical drive. Apple disabled the use of the external one on those systems. You can get it to work but you have to change some plist files, which you can't do without a working os...

The reason the SuperDrive doesn't work IS actually apple. To activate it, you have to send a special raw sequence to get it to actually work. Then it works like a normal one. The MacBook Air is programmed to do this automatically, but on there you'll have to set up some udev rules.

Holding ⇧⌥⌘R at startup till you see a spinning globe (Internet Recovery) or the apple logo appears to reinstall the original OS (OS the Mac shipped with) without needing any sort of external media. Internet recovery will use the internet (Plug in an Ethernet cable before booting up the mac without an AirPort card) to download the necessary firmware and use it to create a UI for 4 utilities. The second one is to reinstall the OS with no external media. Still have an install disc of your OS ready just in case. (For MacOS X 10.6 to 10.0) (Works better for 10.7 to present day (macOS Sonoma)(Yes I'm from the future))

I don't know that I will ever put a drive back in it. But thats how my drive acts. Firewire is why I had to switch to the MacBook Pro. I started with Xcode on 10.5 I liked it and read up on Objective C and was playing with thing but realized it wasn't for me.

The original model from before it was rebranded as a MacBook Pro. I remember this particular computer got a lot of flack for not including a FireWire port, which was still standard on other Macintosh computers (except the thin and lightweight MacBook Air), and many high-quality digital video cameras (including HDV models) still needed FireWire to transfer the video into a computer (unlike said early MacBook Airs, this 2008 MacBook was supposed to be a pretty good video-editing computer!) and was the only way you could do Target Disk Mode back then. Today it doesn't matter, because all new Macs currently on the market have at least one Thunderbolt port, and Target Disk Mode can be performed via Thunderbolt, and tape-based digital camcorders are obsolete (the tapeless HD digital camcorders made for the past several years shoot far higher quality video than similar camcorders made in 2008 did!) and Apple makes a FireWire-to-Thunderbolt adapter for if you need to use any legacy FireWire devices. (Thunderbolt ports are still rare on Windows PCs though, just as FireWire was back in the day.)

I have one of these that I got off of Craigslist for 10$ and the guy said it was broken. Screen is cracked, and battery, and no hard drive or charger. Put a Linux drive in it, booted it up and not a single thing was wrong with it. (Except glass and shot battery.) I put an sad in it and installed snow leopard

About the Super Drive. What I have read: I think the Macbook Air (and some other models) have higher power output on the USB-ports, than normal - and the Super Drive need more power than the USB port standard gives.. That is why the Super drive won't work in most of the USB2 or USB3 ports.

You need to install the OS X 10.6.8 update to get native support for TRIM. Then use software like 'TRIM Enabler for Mac' to enable TRIM support on non OEM drives. You can also use a terminal command to achieve this, however I never could get this to work. You should also disable the HDD drop sensor using terminal.

It's a DVD, Etcher is useless. You have to restore the image through Utility disk, done hundred times.

Apple's DVD superdrives are notorious for failing. I personally have had 3 different drives fail on me, refusing to read disks and immediately ejecting them. Apple recommends that you clean the drive, but at this point I've just given up. Have never tried cleaning one though, so who knows?
