In this video I want to share with you some basics for hitting small jumps on a snowboard. Learning how to hit small jumps will give you some of the basics in the park, which you can build more snowboard trick onto. I break down the basics snowboard jumps into three parts the approach, takeoff and landing. - Sport

I always find parks to be intimidating because they're usually right under the chairlift here and there's always groups of people watching haha.
Fuck I surf and snowboard cause it's fun not to impress other try hard douchebags
Localsh!thead same man people can say what they want but in the end if what you want to do
rappy90 SAME
that’s how it is here in arizona, and i hit my first ever jump, ate it on the landing, and heard people cheering me on in the lift lmao
Too relatable
I came back from a snowboarding trip yesterday and had no idea how to jump.
This video is exactly what i need

In my experience it's all about being completely centered and balanced when you come off the lip - otherwise even a small tilt to the right, left, front, or back can cause you to twist while in mid air.
Learned this the hard way yeea
Agree , but how to avoid rotation in air ? It's my biggest problem.
stay parallell to the board@@MC_DJ
I’m a beginner going as fast as I ever have been, and went over a jump that was like at least 10 feet tall and got so much air it was scary.
Same dude! I got crazy air but didn’t stick the landing.
Probably more like 5 ft. You always think you're higher than you actually are because your head is 5 ft above your body.
@@bukchoiii yea that’s true!
I had a similar experience. I went off a jump at big bear that I thought was a regular kicker but turned out to be something like a spine? I hit it with a lot of speed because thought that was the right thing to do and it laughed me up so high and made me do a quarter backflip and I landed directly on my back - destroying it lol. I couldn’t walk without pain for a week.
2 STEPS to consider here. First ride next to the jump to check the structure and type of jump (table top, step up or down) and see the LANDING! Is it consistent or full of ruts? This helps know what to expect. For beginners, just roll over the jump on your 2nd pass to help determine what speed you'll need to actually reach the landing, 3rd pass build more speed. Table jumps tend to require more speed than you think to clear it. Also note conditions, ice? slush?
great tips, i think i always land with my shoulders ready for the stop which causes me to instantly turn and fall on my backside lol, which goes hand in hand with trying to slow down in one turn. I've been watching alot of videos to get ready for the season, this one made the most sense for me! thanks Kevin, you're a boss!
It is good to have some learning vids again.
alex georgiev? the goalie?
Thank you so much for those extra tips, also your videos somehow make me feel calm and excited about things, thanks for that.
Thanks - those are great tips and I'll study them diligently.
Finally some park footage!
First time I ever hit jumps my instructor took me on a huge ass one. Would not recommend lol.
Same here didnt get the speed right and wound up "sending it"
HuskyArts • yea I landed on my ass and would not recommend
That's how my grandfather learned how to swim, his older brothers threw him in the deep part of lake
@@4nd3rzzon bro I think they were trying to pull a fast one and rid of him lol
@@mikem302 impossible everyone loved grandpa
Thanks Kevin, great tutorial.
update i’ve gone down a jump because of you thanks i’ll keep you updated on my snow boarding life
Your videos are so fun to watch. 😄👏👏
Thank man this is really helping me
Right on! Great tips, thanks man!
Thanks for the video!
I started riding in the park last week :)
Snowboarding jacket is too fuego, but gnarly catching air like that my man 🤙 God bless you for sharing your insight 🖤
Last week i came in with to much speed on a medium jump and the landing took like forever.
I panicked and of course crashed hard. Any tip on what to do if you go too big - besides not panicking ?
Thanks for this, helped me out today in the park at Hakuba 47
Such a nice video! I am trying to improve my ollies, too bad there is no park in the mountain in my city.
Yahoo I needed this thx
I love this! And im sooo disappointed that i mossed you at mammoth. I found out you were their last month and that was my litteraly my first time their. That white out was insane, gave me vertigo. Anyhow wish i could of done a run with you guys. Much love from tulare
I know it’s been over a year, but I just recently started jumping. When I land I feel like my hips and legs aren’t inline with my body, and I end up either landing with heel catch, or I land and can’t stabilize and end up hooking the nose/tail. How do I keep my body straight as I’m taking off and not catching my lip in the land.
how do you look so smooth on the snow ffs
KEVIN YOU WERE JUST IN MY BESTBUY STORE BUT I DIDNT RECOGNIZE YOU IN TIME! NOOOOO
I wish you would’ve uploaded this yesterday before i broke my arm going off a jump :/
hows your arm
Great video Kevin! What do you do over the summer when there isn’t snow?
So helpful thank you
Cant wait👍👍
Any tips for bigger kicker? I have problems with my speed- cant balance- sometimes i m too fast and sometimes too slow
Nice Video
How do you know which edge to land on? Toes vs Heels. Sometime's I'll land a jump and slide out and it feels like I put my weight on the wrong side.
After I listened to this video, I went for the biggest jump and I actually ended up breaking my wrist. I wish I can send a picture of it. 😂
*nice vid bro*
Been riding for 15 years. Learned on the ICE Coast (east coast) and can handle any terrain, but jumps (even small ones) scare me! Wish I could overcome this fear! Thought about taking a snowboard training camp... Jumps are the only thing that escapes me! Just to be clear I'm talking about really small jumps (1-3 feet off the snow).. Nothing like those back country booters! lmao!
I learned how to boardslide near the start of the year, and now I need help doing it on a rainbow rail(/box). I keep falling. help
Kevin love the vids man ! Quick question when your filming with the 7 what housing do you use ?
I bought a custom housing off of Amazon that you can attach an external mic to
Nice! Thanks for the reply
How should I set my stand for jumps and flipping?
Just in the middle maybe? Angles?
Everyone I go off a jump I always end up tilting back towards my tail and landing weird. Any tips?
So I’ve been snowboarding for awhile, but took a break for 2 years. I cannot seem to carve too well anymore, so is it possible to do a fairly high jump without carving?
Hey I have been snowboarding for years and am very good at it I would say I have been doing small to upper medium sized jumps looking to take it to the next level. My home resort just put out its first set of jumps and they are for sure large and the landing is very steep compared to what I am used to. Do you have any tips?
you can try to jump off the knuckle instead of the actual jump itself, that's been helping me a lot in the parks when the jumps are too big for me
When you land your first jump, are you supposed to make the back of your snowboard land first, or the front of your snowboard, or, are you supposed to even them out and just land with both front and back of the snowboard at the same time.
So on spins just stay a little toe or heel edge?
How do I learn to rde on my non-dominant side? Im confident on my dominant side, but absolutely can’t ride the other way
You have to start over just like how you learned the other way, but it goes quicker since you already have experience and what not. So I would start with falling leaf, then progress to s turns. Whenever you are on an easy run, ride switch.
Marshall Grimmett thank you, this makes so much sense and should have been obvious to me :D
Isantir you’re welcome :)
I started out doing those spins (don't know what they're called in English), where you just spin around down the slope. First you spin one way, then the other way, then interchangeably. That makes you more edge-conscious if you know what I mean. After spinning twice or three times down an easy slope I was able to ride on my non-dominant side almost without any falls. You just need to remember that when riding switch your stance should be exactly the same, but the other way round.
The exact same way you learned the first time! Start with falling leaf, then do some super slow heelside turns, then some super slow toeside turns, then gradually speed it up.
You will probably make all the same mistakes that you did when you were learning to ride regular (I did). Remember to initiate turns with your front foot, keep your weight center/forward, and don't lean back.
Hey, TJ should do a review on the Nitro good times. I'm thinking of getting that as my next park board.
Thanks.
I definitely could use some help with stomping my landings... I always land tail heavy and can’t seem to get out of the habit
If you're landing tail heavy then you're probably taking off tail heavy. The pressure that builds on your board can make you tail heavy. Try to absorb that pressure with your knees!
I heard tail heavy is not necessarily a bad thing.
I'm struggling a bit on the landing, I am landing a lot on my tail or on my nose, and sometimes crashing because of the landing first with my nose.. I am trying to pull both of my legs in the air to get them on the same level, but it dsnt always happens, could you give me anu tips on that?
When I do the jumps, about the size of those jumps, my arms come up over my head, when I am in the air, and I don't get as much height. Any tips? Thanks.
Can someone please clarify for me so basically we are popping with a regular jump correct? We are not popping an ollie off of the ramp? As if we would pop hard off the tail on flat terrain trying to ollie over a cone correct?
awesome
i hit a big jump yesterday with a lot of speed and landed back foot first, is that better than landing flat
What angle's do you ride at for your bindings?
You guys should do a comparison video of the different passes you guys have and that are offered.
Just starting to hit the park - I can land small jumps but I'm struggling to get a decent height or pop, any suggestions on how to build height on jumps?
one thing is to double check your stance as you go into the jump - you should be crouching a bit, and then push up as you leave the crest. should give you a bit more air. and of course, don't overdo it, start small at first!
@@AKA_jrz_dvl thanks for replying really helps a lot!! I really wanna improve on the park this year so I really appreciate it
Please tell me what song is this? thanks! Good video!
Ive done super small jumps, and the hardest part is committing my weight to the landing. I kept leaning back on the landing afraid of falling forward, and kept landing into crazy tail butter
I want a tutorial on how tot boardslide and lipslide with ollies on the obstacle. And tips to make it less scary to do long rails. I only find long rails in my local indoor resorts..
How to I land? Do I land board flat or front foot land first? Am I over thinking this?
Can you make statement about the volcom stone jacket ? Whats good and what is not good . Thanks
Great jacket, but the dark colour I got isn't goos for all the winter storms I've been riding through.
Is it possible to send some stickers to Belgium? let me know how you want to do that. love your channel! keep on boarding!
I’m having trouble with the timing of my pop when going off a jump. At what point do you Ollie? Is it when your nose first leaves the edge of the feature or sooner?
you can vary, i.e. early or just on the lip of the jump which is probably the most natural... if you got too much speed try popping off a tad early so you land smoothly, otherwise on the lip I think
Come on, SnowboardProCamp needs 1,000 subscribers until 400,000! :D
Have you ever hit one of the large or xl kickers at Blackcomb?
ktextreme lmao 😂 he do only 180’s on flat , since 3 years
Mal Caithness don’t know what is kahuna but anyway, kevin should be at least 10 times better, have you the level of other CZcams snowboarders ? He is far behind the
Is there ever too stiff of a board where you can’t ollie? I’m struggling a lot with how stiff mine is and can’t keep my leg up for more than like a second
Dude I'll be in Whistler in 3 days! Love to shred and collaborate while I'm there!
im really scared of doing 180's because of landing switch. Do you have any tips for getting over that fear?
Jagdeep Brar yeh man just ride switch then 180 into regular or try then flat slow then control speed so u can spin round and carry on. 180 to 180 out would be good to learn too
@@harrisonevans131 Thank you so much bro, im going to ride tmrw ill keep that in mind
try it a few times without the board too! it helps you get your head and body moving together
I want to learn how to do jumps but my local mountain doesn't have any small ones. What should I do
Yeah side hits by the lift towers are perfect. Also talk with the park crew you would be surprised what they will do if you ask.
but you do takeoff and land with a slightly tilted board and not completly flat right? They told me otherwise the board can jam
I want yo try Park but my biggest problem is riding straight. My rear foot begins to drift towards my heel side. So now my board is riding slanted down the hill. Any tips on keeping the board straight?
Have you tried to put your board flat on a mellow terrain? you will feel a bit sketchy but try to keep your body aligned with the board and balanced (hands on top of tip and tail). After that go back to an edge. Keep repeating that and maybe it will help.
Did my first (indoor) park yesterday. Missed the box the first 2 times, but hit it the 3th time. Also did some small lips. Made mistake #3 a few times (braking too hard at once and sliding out on my butt) Luckily had my crashpants on! My 9 year old son also did some small jumps on his skis.
I just hit my first big ass jump the other day and I hit the knuckle or cased pretty hard. Gotta go fast
Anyone else watching this as a skateboarder trying to get into snowboarding thinking “wow this is gonna be easy all I gotta do is jump “
Easier said than done lmao but you’ll have an easier time with tricks than someone without a skateboarding background. Good luck!
@@anonymouskto duly noted 😂🤦♂️🤷♂️ you’re right .I started trying it since then and was eating shit on my carves. Im sure my original comment made me seem like I was clowning it my bad 🤦♂️
Where did u buy ur snow pants ?
My legs always fly out from under me. Am I leaning back too much? Idk what I’m doing wrong
Is any special snowboard needed to jump or with a common one is okay??
laik from spain
It depends on your skill level and how big your jumps are. Typically an average or lower rider it doesn't matter that much as long as the board isn't a total noodle (really soft flex). But even then if the jump is small that may not matter so much either. If you hit jumps a lot and progress to a point where you need a more jump specific board their are options. But you wouldn't want to spend the money if you aren't taking advantage of the extra features.
Okay, sounds good. So, with a common snowboard could I achieve a 180 in a jump like 0:14?
Absolutely. Your body will do more of the work than the board on a little jump like that. Use all of spc tips and tricks for 180's and you should do fine. Be safe out there.
Howto ride with more speed
How to make quick turns
practice
Think about riding a cat track and you just switch from edge to edge and that's your quick turn. And practice speed
Thanks Owen strength
for speed u cant have ur board perpendicular to the mountain like u can at low speeds
wax your board.
After doing two smaller jumps with ease, I thought I could handle more speed and height, but I got twisted up with my shoulders completely misaligned from the board. Resulted in landing face and fracturing a wrist. If I would’ve kept my shoulders square it never would’ve happened.
How’s your injuries now?
Show I land flat or should I land on a slight edge
I never have any control in the air how do I change that
Hey ProCamp, how to avoid rotation in the air ? I'm a beginner jumper and it seams that on my every jump I get a little rotation and every landing is a traumatic.
Sounds like your shoulders aren't in line with your board, just focus on being as stacked as possible as you leave the takeoff.
My local hill only has pretty big jumps (nothing for progression). How should I learn those?
I am also learning jumps right now and I could say you do not need to hit the park to learn the basics and process. Try to look for features on the terrain when you are riding, maybe a small bump or so (I find many when we get fresh snow) where you can do an ollie and land. That's the way I have been practicing and definitely has improved my balance and confidence.
Sick outfit
How do I hit my first jump?
I land flat and catch edge almost every time. I can't seem to position right to land where Mmy momentum isn't on the wrong edge. It's rough.
what size doa u shredin
I alway catch an edge and fall on my face on the landing. Any tips?
That kid Ryguy Maybe your weight was too much on one foot- try to put a bit pressure on your toes and after that do a quick turn for balancing. and try to keep your upper body over the board fir better control
Do I land on an edge or flat?
i heard that you have to stay completely flat on your base when you jump , is that true??
don't have to, you can use edges to help initiate the turns, i.e. toe side for back 1 or heel side for front 1
I’m doing this soon lol
What do you do if you fall
I was just in some parks where the landing was very far out and the jump was tiny so it was really hard to get enough speed
Can't be tough and poorly built jumps
Watching this after destroying my back coming off a jump yesterday
Can you plz make a how to turn video for beginners Kevin. BTW hi!!
If you got through the older videos I'm sure one of the beginner videos covers it. I watched almost all of them when I first started.
Dude I want to go to whistler so bad bro
I think and see (on other fail videos) that the most common mistake is just toooo much speed approaching. People land way to far and then crash...
Am I on the edge or flat on my board prior take off?
As a mediocre snowboarder i've found it's easier taking off flat, going off on an edge for me ruins my balance in the air
Flat for straight air, edge for spins.
My issue is that I stick right when I land. I feel like I have to land on an edge or else I catch one right when I land
