As someone from the Caribbean, there is no such thing as braids or dreadlocks being ‘owned’ by a group of people. If you go to any of the islands, you will see braids on all different types of people. Sharing traditions should be a good thing, sharing cultures should be a good thing. What makes the sharing of cultures so beautiful, is the equality proven. It shows how beautiful our world can truly be if we just put our differences aside and learn from each other, a world without racism. Cultures are not owned, but shared. Thanks for reading ❤️.

Braids don't belong to anyone, vikings had braids, Africans had braids, Asians had braids. Braiding your hair is just a way to put your hair together, it doesn't matter how thin it is or plenty it is. A braid is a braid whether it's Rapunzel style or cornrows 😂
@@celinemara565 braids are just a method of joining hair. That was my freaking point. Obviously black and white hair textures and different so the methods in which it is used are also different but a braid is still a braid. Black hair is too kinky that a french braid style would fall apart quickly and most of the time, their hair is shorter so it doesn't go as well as it does on the other hair textures. As someone from the Caribbean, there is no such thing as braids or dreadlocks being ‘owned’ by a group of people. Lol af
What does that silliness have to do with us Americans? Oh and do you mean South Americans (lots of countries) or North Americans like The United States of America or Canada?
European countries have to deal with this stupid concept all of the time as well. Their media tells them all of the time that if they wear braids (just using the same example) they are doing the same thing.
You just made a huge assumption about "Americans" when most of us North and South do not feel this way. Just a small generation that both of our kids just happen to be a part of at 27 and 29 and they don't believe in cultural appropriation.
That had nothing to do with Indians though. And culture appropriation definitely exists for Indians, i.e. YOGA
@@sugahoney89 Yoga was spread outside of India by Indian Yogis. It's not appropriation for a white person to do yoga. Especially since it comes from sanatan dharma, and is universal.

Society, especially social media,, keeps me enthralled on a daily basis
but it's nice that she knows about it? imagine worrying about someone apologizing...
Especially in Mexico since those braids were probably done by a native that takes pride in their work as well as got paid for their services. Also before someone says something, cornrows were also independently created by indigenous ppl of the new world before they ever had contact with anyone from Africa.
Black man here, not sure why she apologized, braids have been in literally EVERY culture
@@ayenastyletelier3257 yeah dude, all this cultural appropriation is getting out of hand. People are going around eating spaghetti and listening to rap music like it's nothing! Quick side note, as a black girl, there is no appropriation of braids. That style is worn across many cultures that aren’t darker skinned. Them braids was cute. And anyone who would bother a CHILD about their hair needs to be disciplined. I’ll be the one to do it 😂

@@annayy555 no credit needed it’s not a black people thing. Get over yourself.
Lots of cultures had/have braids. It's a hairstyle, not a culture unless you specifically went with a cultural style and tried to claim it as your own, do not apologize for just wearing a hairstyle. The world is a mixture of cultures already so cultural appropriation should really only be about individuals claiming they made something they didn't. Stop apologizing and live life. I mean if people actually did research they'd be surprised at the amount of different cultures effect a lot of what we say and do. The typical American wedding ceremony for example involves several different cultural traditions and pagan rituals. Just stop apologizing. It's getting ridiculous and I'm a black lady. Braids were worn by Vikings, Native Americans, slaves, Chinese people, and more. Which culture do you think you're appropriating?

Everyone supporting her hair by calling out that she shouldn’t feel ashamed is so wholesome. :,)
It’s sad honestly. That she even has to mention how she’s “sorry” for something she did as a kid, that isn’t anywhere near to being disrespectful, because people these days would have ripped her apart for doing it without apologising
@@anti_fascist I do agree that it never should have been something to be ashamed of in the first place
no one said she should feel ashamed it's just cultural appropriation and is genuinely not good for straight hair lol
I don’t understand why it is an issue. If someone wears their hair like another culture, it’s wrong? I would think it’s honoring them by admiring their culture. I’m 47 years old. Braids aren’t just black culture. If you go along the coast of Mexico and in the Caribbean, it’s a part of our culture as well and we do not support “culture appropriation.” We are happy to share our culture with anyone who appreciates it. Do not apologize
I’m Scandinavian mixed with Asian and the Scandinavians also have a lot of braids in their culture. I think Native American culture is big on braids too now that I think of it.
East Asian countries do it too
It’s used in so many cultures but certain people want to “claim” it so now anyone who does them needs to apologize or else they’ll be cancelled 🙄
You’re so right, Braids are apart of so many cultures not just one. I’m Mexican and it’s always been apart of our culture.
@@GizzOnYou it’s funny though because most black people you talk to say they love seeing people embrace their culture by doing braids.
