    Sorry about the delayed posting.
    What an amazing journey to see the cherry blossoms- and it was great seeing how enthusiastic everyone there was in seeing them! It's hard to find folks who like seeing changing leaf colors in the fall in these parts.
    Anyway you all took some fantastic shots of them and I appreciate it!
    Fun time in Yokohama's Chinatown. It's an intriguing spot- especially considering how Yokohama came to be via the Japanese authorities having opened their nation to outside trade but not wanting it too close to their capital city of Tokyo so they had this tiny fishing village take the brunt and it wound up becoming a unique blend of Japanese and European culture . .and they Chinese workers help build it which would result in Chinatown. I'm glad to see you picked up on the differences between Chinese and Japanese characters to say nothing of cuisine! Thanks for that!

    Hello beautiful family, thank you for sharing the beautiful cherry blossoms 🌸. When I was in Japan in March, it was just a bit early. I only saw a few here and there with 100 other people 😂😂 trying to get photos of one tree. I was lucky enough to see a traditional Japanese wedding though in Yokohama. Japan has left such a big impression on me, I didn’t really expect that. That translation gadget would have been handy. I was surprised that very little English was spoken or understood even by young people. Can’t wait to see what’s next in your journey. Happy travels. 🌸🌸

    I can feel the disappointment of "being too early" first and the happiness of "NOW we've made it". One or two days can really make a big difference when it is about nature!
    Would you please hug Willa and tell her the unknown German granny is whishing her a "get well soon!"?

    Glad you got to see some Sakura Cherry Blossoms at last 🙂 Yeah, we saw many Tokyo spots misjudge the forecast, as everything was on track for an early season, then suddenly a cold snap sent them into hibernation to make it a very late season. Really enjoying the weather this spring overall though (although looks like heavy rain tomorrow)
    While it's a bit far away for you, hope you get a chance to explore Mt. Takao or the Okutama valley in west Tokyo (really good escape when the weather gets hotter)

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 24 dny +1

      Yes, the forecasts were really off and that's why we were nearly a week early headed to Tokyo the first time. Yes, heavy rain today! Thanks for the tips for Mt. Takao and Okutama valley. We have Mt. Takao on our radar for later this year!

    How did Willa break a bone in her foot? She seemed remarkably laid back about having to wear a cast. After your previous medical experience in Japan, what was it like getting Willa seen to?

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 24 dny +5

      She landed/jumped on a small plastic toy while at an indoor playground. We were surprised it broke her foot honestly, but it hit just in the right spot! Luckily she is doing better now.
      For the medical visit, we actually got into a last minute appointment at the American base where I work, so we didn't go to a Japanese doctor for this time.

    So beautiful! Definitely on my list of things to see :) We have two events around blooming trees in my neck of the woods - a mini one in Berlin (Britzer Baumblüte) and a much bigger one in Werder near Potsdam, where a lot of fruit farmers have their orchards (Baumblütenfest Werder). Seeing the trees in full bloom is always so uplifting :)
    How is Willa´s leg doing? And I love how Noa knows how to enjoy a meal to the max!

    The cherry blossoms were a bit disappointing. Actually very disappointing. So meager.
    I expected something like the Bonn Kirschbluete - masses of pink and white. (Of course there are blossoming cherry trees all over Germany, but I think Bonn ist the most famous for it in Germany.) I love the pink blossoming ones the most.
    And I thought there must be places somewhere in Japan, maybe in the Japanese countryside, with loads of cherry blossoms like I’ve seen in fotos and movies.
    Maybe you can find something for next years cherry blossoms time. Yoshino near Nara, I read somewhere.
    Your daughters are so cute, and “Gute Besserung” to Willa.
    I guess you might make a video about your experience with the medical services resp hospital in that regards soon?

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 24 dny

      We would have loved to visit more nature areas for the Cherry Blossoms. We actually talked about going to Nara area at a National Park very famous for Sakura viewing, but we opted into something closer. So that’s a great suggestion you had :)
      We didn’t know Bonn was famous for viewing the cherry blossoms. Cool to hear!
      We actually don’t have a video about Willa breaking a bone in her foot! She ended up using the US services at the hospital on base and everything went as expected. She’s been a champ with her cast though!

    • @christinehorsley
      @christinehorsley Před 23 dny

      @@OurStorytoTell
      Willa surely seems to take the cast & hindrance in stride. Brave girl.
      If you went to the US hospital on base (an option that didn’t even cross my mind, silly me) then of course there was nothing unexpected, nothing to report. Good that this option was available, having to deal with medical personnel in an unknown, foreign language would be a nightmare to me, even though those nifty handheld translators are surely a blessing.
      Yes, Bonn is famous for this, but Hamburg and some other cities also celebrate the cherry blossoms. Wherever it happens, I think it’s most beneficial to the locals, the date when the blossoming starts being quite unpredictable, how can one from further away reserve a hotel room in advance? I still have not made it there and so must do with foto galleries … here’s one from this year. The kind of cherry trees planted in Bonn are various kinds of “prunus serrulata”, they are decorative only and don’t carry fruit.

  • @Laura-nt9qf
    @Laura-nt9qf Před 24 dny

    I think cherry trees would be maybe prettier in the countryside? The houses at that bridge there are not very picturesque. Tbh I'm really underwhelmed with Japan so far. But that's ok, it's good to know I definitely don't have to put it on my bucket list. I'm also not a city person and Tokio looks pretty awful and bland to me. But I guess that's normal as a European, we have so many pretty, more colourful towns. In America and many Asian countries, most is so modern - and many of the old houses aren't exactly nice to look at either. I also can't believe it, was this in May? There's hardly any green there. In Austria, it's been basically like summer (green) since the middle of April... my cherry tree was full out in April already as well.

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  Před 24 dny

      Unfortunately, we didn't make it to much of the countryside to see the cherry blossoms this year, so what we saw in our local area and visiting in Tokyo is all we can really compare it to in person. In Nara, there are larger groups of cherry trees and is probably what most people think about. We do miss the picturesque houses and city squares! However, we understood that when coming to Japan we wouldn't be seeing similar cities like those in Europe
      This video was filmed in April! It's definitely more green now than what you see in this video. In order to stay on top of editing and maintain a good balance with videos and life, we spread out when the videos are posted.

      @innovativeg4m3r Před 18 dny

      Sorry but You come of as very ignorant 😅 this video is clearly not from may, judging by clothing and surroundings. I am European and do not agree with you at all, not underwhelming. Every country cannot look like old European towns with colourful small cottages. They are filming in bigger cities and where many old buildings were destroyed during war and natural disasters etc. Proper “oldschool” Japanese houses are beautiful. Perhaps do some research before downtalking another country and culture. If you visit older and smaller towns you get old and cute. Big and modern - Tokyo.
