    A man has to do what he has to do to support his family. As I have no room for any of the tools you are talking about, I will have to live vicariously through your channel. Aye a cooking channel will get a follow from me. Take care & stay safe.

    Great respect from me here in Denmark, I love your channel, which is always full of good inspiration. You say you want to make alkyl stencils, hope you will sell some of these stencils to those of us who don't have a laser, and I think you can do some good business on stencils.
    Look forward to 2024 with exciting things from you. 🙂

    In my shop the timeber rack i use is a long 2x3 stud fixed through to the up right studs in the wall the 2x3 has 25mm holes drilled in it at a slight angle and then 300mm lengths of metal conduit pipe in each of the holes. I've had a lot of weight on it and because it takes up so little room you can get several shelves in with less on making it easier to access boards. All the best

    Great plans for your future, cnc is a different ball game to lasers, but on a small format are great for producing gift items etc. As far as the lathe goes I would save up and get a mid range with cast iron bed not the lidl one that's in our local shop for 79 euros or the cheap steel bed ones. Looking forward to watching your vids this year.

    My wood offcuts at different sizes is stored on shelves in the garage, spur shelving on the upper parts of the wall for full length timber and a cart on wheels for sheet goods and offcuts. I made the cart out of a wardrobe that was going to the tip and has proven to be really useful. Two learnings thought: make sure you get strong enough wheels, the 500kg ones I had initially buckled and I had to buy 1 ton ones, and make sure the wheels rotate 360 degrees, my first one ton ones didn’t and moving the cart sideways was an issue. I now have 6 1 ton wheels and the cart is full on both sides

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you for the ideas. I made that mistake with my current wood storage with the coasters. Got 6 of them but they are way too small and as you say not strong enough. I need to buy a proper set of coasters for my new cart. Fortunately got a nice set for my workbench.

    A belated Happy New Year and all the best to you and your family in 2024. That was a very interesting update. Regarding a jointer, could you not buy a tracksaw (Festool) to cut a nice square edge of the rough timber and use a better planer thicknesser instead of buying an expensive jointer? I am sure other guys who are much more experienced woodworkers would jump on me for the suggestion! Regarding laser projects, I have come round to the idea of getting one in 2024 but cash is problematic these days! I look forward to seeing videos on the desktop CNC machine when you get one and the projects you make from that new tool. I would definitely subscribe to your new channel on gardening and cooking. Like yourself, I do some gardening or rather I dig when and where my wife tells me to. 😂 Seriously, I think I mentioned a couple of projects that would be useful to build - greenhouse and cold frames plus benches. I also look forward to seeing what you cook up English {British?) dishes with a Polish flavour and vice versa. Maybe a haggis dish a la Polish flavour? I make my own bread (including sourdough) and pizzas - any chance of making pizzas with a Polish twist? Anyway, I have taken up too much of your time so I will shut up!

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci

      Oh yes I have a full list dishes in the pipeline 😁👍
      Where it comes to joiner I need the edges to be straight flat and parallel to each other but the same is with the faces of the board - faces need to be parallel to each other. Now you can achieve that with other tools however the process would be fiddly and time consuming. And that's my biggest time waste in my workshop. All my timber is rough sawn so it's a daily task.

  • @raymondyunker9962
    @raymondyunker9962 Před 4 měsíci

    It doesn’t look like you store a large amount of timber in your workshop area. So I suggest you consider storing most of your timber vertically on end including sheet goods. It takes up less space and works well.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci

      It seems that way as its in my current wood storage which is quite deep. On many occasions I find that storing timber vertically overtime on some boards introduces a bow to them. And I do want to utilise the height of my workshop. I actually got a lot of timber outside that I don't have space for in my workshop. All the 2.4m and 3m lengths

  • @patrickmaher9270

    Hi I have a small suggestion for you about where to fit a CNC. I watch another woodworker called John Heisz-I build it. He has a CNC mounted on the wall and uses it vertically and this might suit your needs as well because it doesn't take up much floor space. I hope you find this useful. I really enjoy watching your videos and can't wait to see you start your new workbench.

    For timber storage, I think I'd be tempted to go with either metal bookshelf track/brackets or french cleats with triangulated hangers for main horizontal storage ... both would be very strong and adjustable to suit the wood you have now and in the future ... also have some space to one side to allow for upright storage of longer lengths ... even longer pieces can be stored in the ceiling by adding some straps to the ceiling.
    As mentioned below, mounting the CNC/laser on the wall saves a lot of space, with the added benefit of the cuttings from the milling operation falling down and away from the cut.
    I've never understood the issue of whether you buy your own tools or are given them, it doesn't matter, next will be complaints about using tools that they don't have ... that's life, some people have more or less than you, stop moaning and just enjoy the content!!
    Looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year 👍

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hmm the French cleat system could actually be the way to go here as you said I could adjust it to the lengths I will have. I do need to explore the wall mounted cnc option it does seem very interesting

    • @barry.w.christie
      @barry.w.christie Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@CasualDIY The heavy duty book shelf track/brackets would work perfectly as well, you'd just need to put more of the vertical tracks up to maximise number of widths of wood that could be stored.
      Whichever method used, you don't require a shelf between each bracket as the wood being stored acts as it's own shelf (spans between two or more brackets).
      Also, with regards a wall mounted CNC/laser (plenty of examples on CZcams) ... you can either have it permanently attached to the wall working in a vertical mode or have it hinged so that it can fold down for use and back up for storage.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci

      @@barry.w.christie yes that seems as the best way to go with a cnc

    Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I like all types of the videos you make. I don't mind commericals during the videos, neither sponsored videos or machines you received for free and the reviews on it. We all need to earn our money some how. I'm sorry to hear you got scammed. As far as the timber and sheet material + off cuts storage concerns:
    I use the "Elements system". Vertical metal rails mounted to the wall (not suitable if you have plasterboard wall, unless you can mount them into the studs),
    On/in these you click horizontal brackets, which hold up to 50 kilograms each. So if you want to make a storage system with a length of 3 meters, you'll need
    5 or 6 of these vertical rails. The number of horizontal brackets you need depends of the amount of shelves you are going to make for the timber storage.
    I'd advise one shelf for each type of timber you want to have on stock. On you YT you can find many videos on make racks on wheels for sheet material and/or timber and/or
    off cuts. I wish you success with all your plans and projects for this year and the years to come. I'll be following them along with pleasure and interest.

    • @CasualDIY

      The system seems very good and if I had the money that's exactly what I would do. All my walls are brick ones. I'm planning to use the material that's currently my wood storage is made of.

    Getting a lathe Tomasz? I advise you to stay clear of the Lidl lathe!
    You might be interested in my lathe story. I started general woodworking some years ago. Followed yours and many other woodworking CZcamsrs. Bought a few Evolution tools lol.
    Then one day I was offered a lathe for free. I thought it would be a nice little addition. Turns out, turning is very addictive. Now I mainly turn and watch mainly woodturning CZcamsrs.
    BTW turning can be expensive, pricey tools, finishes, accessories, also mainly hardwoods.
    Good luck Tomasz with your decision making. Tough call: working to strengths vs diversifying. I prefer YT channels that are focused. The most successful ones seem to have a strong community built by frequent live streaming which allows engagement with the viewer.

    Good luck with your new channel and your upcoming endeavours.
    I don't think you should feel the need to explain your financial situation to the youtube world. Those who are fans and followers of your channel surely understand the need to generate income. Those who don't are either 'confused' or jealous or simply think you should do it all for nothing.

      I’m interested in laser engravers/cutters but have absolute zero experience in them. I see all your reviews on them but I’m stumped on some of the basics of it. Mainly once the machine is set up ( easy for me). Firstly downloading a program to my MacBook to use. Secondly, designing a simple project, Thirdly, getting the project exported to the laser,( never see this done). Finally feeds and speeds especially where part of the project needs more than one pass. This be a good video to do for me. Hope you can help. Been following you since your beginnings.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 4 měsíci

      @@malcolmmarks7374 OK good info there thank you. I'll try to make some basic videos covering that. I don't have a Mac but I know Lightburn software that I use will run on Mac. In Lightburn you can design and you will control your laser. You don't export per say to your laser. You connect your laser to your laptop and use Lightburn software to make everything happen. Speed and power will depend on you laser and on what material you will work with so there is no one setting for all. That's why you run the test files to establish the best settings.

    • @malcolmmarks7374
