I've only got a small shed, no insulation and no heat, just a lot of warm clothing and a lovely cup of coffee when I get back into the house.

    Diesel heater needed

Hi Tomasz, I've just bought an 8kw Chinese diesel heater from eBay UK (£62.00). I'm heating a very well insulated 35sq m workshop and I have to say, what a game changer. I can get the temperature from 6 degrees to 18 degrees in 45 minutes, uses about 1 litre of fuel in two and a half hours. Maybe have a look...

Interesting option actually for a decent price.

I'm smart in that my workshop is in one of my bedrooms ... doesn't help that I have single glazing and no central heating though ... I have a lovely new boiler but need to get it fitted, only had it for about four and a half years 🤣.... in the meantime the gas hob and a hot water bottle keeps me going 👍

@@CasualDIY Luckily it's only got down to about -5c outside so far ... I think the lowest in the house so far is +7c in the morning ... it's been a few years since I've had ice on the inside of the windows 👍

That’s pretty impressive Tomasz, not a bad temperature to work in once you get going & machines running. I had been using a small fan heater, but last week got an oil filled radiator from Lidl for £29.99 and it’s been keeping me toasty warm, plus it’s safer to leave on unattended & has a frost setting 👍.

Hi Thomasz, your tanks provides heating for sure, and I can tell you that, even with an excellent insulation, you would not have 14° inside while having -11° outside ! I totally agree with you : it's worth working on a good insulation , even in hotter places than Poland. I'm not so convinced of the efficiency of a heat pump/reversible air conditionner in your case, as during freezing days, heat is provided by an electric resistance and not the outside air, as it would completely freeze the external unit. Heat pump are optimal in mild climate such as south of France where I live. I know that in recent years, technology has progressed a lot on that point but I don't see how to "suck" heat out of a frozen air without spending a lot of energy... By the way, what do you have to heat your tanks ? Inverted flow wood burner ? Solar panels ? If you use something innovative of that kind, that would be worth a video, as DIYers like me are interested in a wide scope of residential solutions topics. Thanks again for your videos.

My house and hot water is heated by an air heat pump 16KW. Got underfloor heating in the whole house. When I set the heat pump to 30 degrees for the underfloor heating when outside is -15 the room temperature in the house is between 21-23 degrees. So it does work. However at lower temperatures the pump will consume much more electricity. We don't have solar panels yet but I think we will invest in that I the next 2 years.

Hi Thomasz, 14.5 degrees is still not that warm! I find a heated clothes drier is good for raising the temp a couple of degrees, also tealights under terracotta work well (but are a known fire risk!). What about raising the floor in there and fitting insulation plus UFH??? You deserve some more heat Thomasz, would make a good video too!

The floor is already insulated. I think when I finally one day fully kit out my workshop I will install an air-conditioning unit with heating option. Heard some opinions on a solution like that.

I have a roller door which I think is impossible to insulate. Too expensive to change it though.

Well it's here for sure. When I was a kid the winters were really harsh like -30 and at least a 1m of snow. Now -20 is very rare in my area and way less snow. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining 🤣
