People seem to forget Cory Perry was an absolute beast in the 2010s especially because he’s more of a grinder now, great video!
Thank you! And 100% Perry was incredible, did my 7th grade essay speech project on him 😂
Both Vlasic and Subban MAYBE get in in like 30 years in a year where there aren't any automatic shoe-ins.
Interesting take!
Pretty fair breakdown👍...and an unrelated plug for Theo Fleury!
Haha appreciate that! What video do you want to see next?
If Gary Suter isn't in the HHOF, I don't think Marc-Edouard Vlasic gets in.
Tbh I've never thought that because one player isn't in means another player shouldn't get it. Everyones impact on the game is so different, not to mention how much the game has changes from decade to decade. Like there's so much that changes from player to player, it's just not really a fair argument. Not saying Gary Suter isn't a HHOFer though.
Seems every time I see a Greatest Canadian Hockey team ever I'm amazed no matter the era...all great teams. I think the more recent teams are better than the older teams because of player size, skill development, equipment improvements & team play/strategy...but what if a best in era was done and then compare best overall? Yea so much subjectivity to find an objective result, especially since data capture has increased over the years - hard to compare older teams to present. The names for the international game are so impressive: 1976: Orr, Hull, Esposito, Lafleur, Perrault, Clarke, Park, Robinson, Savard, Lapointe...; 1987: Gretzky, Lemieux, Coffey, Messier, Anderson...; 2002: Lemieux, Sakic, Fleury, et al...; 2014: So many greats! Given their record, seems to me to be the best so far...2022: Crosby, McDavid, McKinnon et al...Price? if healthy, but no other goalies of note for Canada
Personally, I don't like comparing eras at all. Sports science advances so much now by the day, and younger generations are legit learning on what to do and not to do from the ones who did it before. Hoping to see all NHL guys back at the Olympics and for sure Canada has been struggling of late under the goaltending umbrella.
Vlasic definitely ain’t getting in
Like I said maybe my toughest take but at some point it's almost like a Frank Gore situation, you play long enough you might just get in lolol
There’s no way 16/24 players make it to the HOF. It’s the Hall of Fame, not Hall of Very Good. By my count there are 10 locks, 2 are already in. My other 8 locks are Crosby, Bergeron, Toews, Keith, Price, Doughty, Getzlaf, and Marleau.
Perry, Carter, Bouwmeester, and Pietrangelo don’t quite make it for me, but in a slower year I could see any of them going in for winning Cups and Olympic Gold, plus other individual awards along the way.
Weber, Nash, Tavares, and Benn don’t have any Cups but were all very good. Weber might be the best D of his generation, but with no Norris Trophy and no Cups, he may not make it (he should, but using voter’s reasoning he may not). Nash and Benn didn’t/don’t quite have the production to make it, despite the Gold Medals and one individual award each. Tavares is a tough one, barring injury he should reach 500 goals (currently he has 427) and 1000 points (975). If he can manage to score 550+ goals, he’s a lock, otherwise I’m not too sure.
In contrast, Kunitz and Sharp have plenty of Cups, but the only individual award or accolade between them is a First Team All Star LW selection to Kunitz in 2012-13, the lockout shortened season where Ovi won both First Team RW and Second Team LW.
Subban, Duchene, Hamhuis, and Vlasic were good, but not for long enough to warrant a HOF spot.
All that said, I see 10 locks, with as many as 8 others that *could* make it eventually.
I mean the one thing I'll say here is Corey Perry is a lock for the Hall of Fame. He's got the Hart Trophy, more than likely will hit over 1,300 games played this season and if he plays for two more years could finally hit 1,000 points. Rocket Richard Trophy, Stanley Cup, all the International success it factors in.
