    My number one favorite singer of all time. I saw him in concert once with my wife. Two weeks before he died.

      I agree. He had kind of a “haunting” voice. No wonder David Lynch liked Orbison.

    I think Roy is playing an Ovation here. I had one many years ago when I played. They’re really comfortable because they have a curved back. The downside is, I was mixed on the tone because the backs are made of some plastic material or composite. I’m not sure exactly what they’re made from. But Roy got huge bang for the buck with his singing and playing. He had this unique “haunting” sound to him I think. I just always have thought that Roy was like Elvis with a way more interesting sound and emotion. (I should add that I read something about Elvis awhile back. Don’t quote me but I guess he was a huge Roy Orbison fan. So even Elvis liked Roy.)

      I never liked the ovation. I agree about the composite back. I think the bottom line ones may have been plastic. I didn’t like the round back at all for comfort and the ones I played sounded cheap unless they were plugged in. They sounded fine from an amp. A lot of great players played ovation so there must be something to them. I guess you need the very high end ones. If Roy Orbison and Glen Campbell played one there must be something to it.

      Nancy Wilson of Heart played an Ovation acoustic early in her career I believe. Maybe even an endorser too.
      I personally never owned one or played one but I’ve heard that complaint before. I played one of their basses in a music store back in the late seventies. I think it the model may have been called Magnum or something like that. It was super woody tone. But I had my heart set on a Ricky 4001. Still have that bass from Driver Music and gotten a lot of miles out of it.

    I kind of like the blues progression at 0:27. I’ve never been a huge blues fan outside of music from the 40s which I think was the “Golden Age” of blues myself. But I remember walking into a winery in Eastern Washington in the mid-1990s and there was a young guy working there who played only really old blues from the 40s on a record player, no less. But listening to that made me realize it was overly simplified over the generations. (There’s a young gal from I think Ireland - Muirean or something? - who’s a terrific blues player. You might want to check her out. But she’s become really famous now.)

      Born albino, he suffered from the sight problems associated with albinism, which explains his corrective dark glasses.
      I like him too and his talent came before his "appearance" .I have nothing against weasels.

    • @KittyGrizGriz
      @KittyGrizGriz Před 25 dny +2

      @@lepetitoiseau Hmmm not so sure about that? Roys skin looks nothing like the Winter brothers Johnny & Edgar who both were born with albinism.
      “Two misconceptions stubbornly continue to surface about Roy, one, that 'he was an albino', and two, that he wore his trademark dark glasses because 'he was blind' or nearly so. Neither are correct, although his myopia required thick corrective lenses.”
      More than likely this was Roys “trademark” look & I think he nails the coolness factor - down tight.

    • @lepetitoiseau
      @lepetitoiseau Před 24 dny

      @@KittyGrizGrizThere are different kinds of albinism.He was not as affected as the same level that Edgar and Johnny Winter but i think he was indeed born suffering from this disease or something very close ,as a child he already had very, very poor eyesight, at first many people thought he was blind , Roy had blue eyes and practically blonde hairs, he started very early to dye them black, which with these glasses became a trademark, I don't know if you've seen his sons, blond, very blue eyes, they inherited some genes from their father ...And,of course, i can hear that other people think otherwise! Perhaps the truth is it is a mixture of the two versions?
      That doesn't change the fact that we love Roy!? ;-)

      @KittyGrizGriz Před 24 dny

      @@lepetitoiseau Yeah, we love Roy, with wearing dark sun glasses indoors or not.
