    The Slow Rush showcases a confident, experienced and fully capable Kevin Parker exploring emotional themes of time and youth through this pseud0-concept album. The track listing offers unique, nostalgic sound. Coupling that with solid narrative structure and bitter moments of self reflection and self sabotage. How does this compare to the rest of his Discog? Does it resonate as emotionally as it was intended? Just how deep does this theme really go? Why is Kevin no longer interested in impressing us (in a good way)?

    Oh yeah man, i've been looking for someone reacting to tame impala the way you do, especially lonerism. It makes me reexperience it. Try innerspeaker next, its awesome.

      @marnotreally  Před 3 lety +6

      Well, I’m happy we found each other hahaha. Innerspeaker is definitely on my radar but if you have any other artists in mind I would love to see if I can take a swing. I resonate deeply with reaction content myself with Tabby, Shawn, TC and JD being some of my favourites!

      @@marnotreally You could react to George Clanton - Slide. It's a mix of vaporwave, neo psychedelia and other stuff. It's pretty unique and never saw a reaction to it on youtube.

      @@marnotreally Metronomy. Band from Devon in England. I'd be shocked if you're familiar and doubt anyone else would suggest them. Their latest album is great. I'd say start with that and if you like it then 'The English Riviera' from 2011 is also fantastic.

    The end of breathe deeper is honestly a master class of music the synth he uses on it it’s super temperamental and the pattern he made is really fucking hard to recreate

  • @EpicAwesomesauce
    @EpicAwesomesauce Před 3 lety +32

    12:34 That's his unaltered voice, actually. You can really tell that he was quite self-conscious about his vocals earlier in his career and he once said that he regretted having so many effects over his voice in Lonerism. From that album to Currents to The Slow Rush, his vocals got progressively less and less distorted. And I'm glad that he went this route.
    EDIT: 17:27 His parents split up when he was younger and his dad never apologized for it. His father died of skin cancer back in 2009.

    • @marnotreally
      @marnotreally  Před 3 lety +7

      Thanks for clarifying! Found out that stuff about his dad later as I was listening to the album off the genius entries but the stuff with his vocals is ASTOUNDING! He has a great voice on him and I hope he keeps gaining* confidence. I feel like this album is fresh because of the fact that it’s unapologetic about its identity and Kevin is really not trying to impress us, he’s just trying to make music.

    Another great reaction Urph! I love how you go very in depth and seem to really care about your music and how it effects you. Nobody goes as deep into the meanings as you do as of now for sure. I'm sure you have excellent taste in music (and probably have listened to these) but if you haven't listened to these yet might I suggest after the Death Grips/Tame Impala dynasty is over? I'd say Sound of Silver (LCD), Anything in Return (Toro Y Moi), Turn On The Bright Lights (Interpol), and maybe even some Radiohead? Keep up the great work.

      @marnotreally  Před 3 lety

      Thank you! I know just how much music means to other people so I try my best to find it in me to deeply connect with it for my own enjoyment and to do it justice. I’m unfamiliar with Sound Of Silver but I’m super familiar with Interpol and I’ve pretty much memories Radiohead’s entire catalogue hahahah! I’m gonna need to make specific decisions on what comes next so if you have any more suggestions please keep them coming!

    Took me a while to get used to the new sounds in this album but I’m so obsessed since the day this album came out it’s like I been in a trance this whole year but I see it as a good thing cause of all this Covid bs why can’t life be normal again

    • @marnotreally
      @marnotreally  Před 3 lety

      Honestly this album is romantic for that reason. Reminds me of a personal youth that I lost during this era. Going out and being error prone and getting up to “one more year” of crazy. All of that stuff is weirdly nostalgic now and the sounds reflect it wonderfully. I think this is where a new sound contributes much more to the theme than any previous project. Personification of a lost era.
