-------------------------------
Tame Impala’s entire discography is a record of Kevin Parker’s personal journey through time. Guiding us through his self-reflection on Innerspeaker. Isolation within Lonerism. And the flood of emotional heartbreak in Currents. Musically they’ve all advanced with him. Once upon a time, an electric guitar sat at the forefront of the Tame Impala sound. Parker’s sonic-explorations have since progressed towards gleaming synths and a wider audience appeal.
Four years after Currents and a number of collaborations, fans new and old were eager to hear more from the perfectionist-producer. The first track he would eventually return with seemed like a cheeky memo to fans, “Patience” (Patience Audio). The tune would act as a buffer while we waited one more year for his fourth studio release, The Slow Rush. Where nearly every track dives deep into the oceans of time. Past, present and future. The title itself notes time’s paradoxical nature: at times moving slow -- seemingly never ending and at others, rushing past us in the blink of an eye. But while The Slow Rush delves into the concept of time, it’s truly about how we accept the changes that come with the passing of time.

He really used that 'one more year' pun
Zentigo I love your pfp, reminds me of that great dance punk album
@@canorhan2903 Dunno what you mean, I just found this picture of a whacky guy dancing in a suit.
I like your profile pic. Just wanted to say that
We are not 4 seasons
@@wspann1967 Get round in the season!
It's about over-romanticizing the past and also the opposite. Like, being consumed with regret and what you should have done differently. Lost in Yesterday.
Rather like those who don't like this album because it isn't like Currents. They're rather Lost in Yesterday.
That was me 1 year ago but people change, even though I still think about my mistakes, it’s a part of life so-
@@alfiedemmon4132 or the people who don’t like currents and the slow rush and want another lonerism/innerspeaker
@@alfiedemmon4132 exactly!!! All the albums are masterpieces
I feel like I just had a great therapy session
I thought the same!
Legit!! I discovered tame literally 3 days ago whilst surfing on Spotify. Boy have I missed out!!!
it is true.
@@kitzburg I discovered them last year 😄 Oh boy! my perspective on Life has changed because of Tame Impala. I *owe* it to them
@@47dark legit tho, just incredible sound man! Can’t wait for them to come to the UK
That second part of Posthumous Forgiveness is probably the only song that has made me cry in my entire life
same, genuinely in floods of tears when i hear it
Me too man..really makes me think about me and my dads relationship.
I agree
Lost my Dad 10 years ago to Cancer and I miss him everyday....crumpled and balled the first time I heard it....but now I listen to it as if I'm talkin to my father and it makes it better...thanks Kevin 🙌
Definitely along with the best song of all time yes I’m changing from currents. Damn everytime I hear that song I just break
"On Track" REALLY speaks to me as a 21 y/o cancer patient
Loren Peterson I hope you’ll be okay. ❤️
As someone who's 21 and also battling cancer, On Track is the one song that stood out to me on the album. I had to take time off of college because of my treatment and surgery so all of my friends are graduating while I still have another year and it makes me feel like I'm lagging behind or not where I should be. I need to be realistic about what I've had to go through and On Track reflects the outlook that I need, "Strictly speaking I'm still on track." Despite all the difficulties I've faced and struggles I have I'm still here, alive, and I'm thankful for that and I have the rest of my life to finish college.
Much love to you
Loren Peterson praying for you and wishing you the best
God bless you and your strength ♥️
your audio mixing is top notch

"Is It True" is such a banger.
Just Cade exact words m8
Just Cade that bass line slaps harder than my granny when she hears me swearing
i feel its the song here nobody talks about
So true!
Is it true?
i swear man everytime i listen to tame impala, its like therapy. i deal with so much anxiety and thoughts and every song has to deal with at least one of the concepts i fear and deal with everyday. its literally like kevin is telling me or talking to me fuck
Likewise buddy!
Yes i defenitely see your point!
i feel exactly the same, couldnt have worded it better.
YES
Definitely.
Imagine thinking this album is a disappointment. Fantastic break down.
SPECTRE man I thought glimmer was awesome. Good disco throwback love it
@SPECTRE what a boastful comment
@SPECTRE I only really liked 2 songs, Instant Destiny and Posthumous Forgiveness, as opposed to almost every song on Currents.
You guys just keep listening you guys are probably growers for me they all were all amazing in Their own ways
@@Jakefiz1 I'm hoping what you typed was a typo
The Slow Rush is one of the greatest gifts dropped on a Valentine's Day.
The last time I was this early,
Kevin still played guitar.
damn!
i like da guitar on this album
@@jager9022 dont seem like it but if you listen theres guitar on most of the songs
Just saying that Middle 8 deserves more subs🤷🏼♂️
Nova Apothany We’re almost at 300k and that’s nuts!
His content is sooo good
agree
Middle 8 congrats on 300k!!
Nova Apothany agreed 100%
The return of the sentient reverb machine
This is Kevin's best record. Sorry not sorry. On a surface level, it seems minimalistic, but actually it' is incredibly detailed. The more you listen the more you will uncover. It is easily his most consistent album, too. Not to mention the drumming and production on this record is his finest. Absolutely beautiful record, start to finish.
it was easily my last favorite of his, but ur completely right. The more i listen, the better it gets. Its perfect
@@kittycatwitabat9818innerspeajer over this?
@@voidzminer1017 that was two months ago, so my opinion on innerspeaker and tame impala in general has changed. I def prefer this over innerspeaker
@@kittycatwitabat9818 for me I like the albums in order of when they came out, so slow rush, currents, lonerism, innerspeaker
@@voidzminer1017 ohhh I see. Yeah honestly I can see people justifying any of his albums being his best except for innerspeaker. Such a strong discography
This breakdown really add a whole other level of complexity to the album. Seriously thank you, especially for me where i can relate so much right now as a lost graduating college student.
23CrazyAsian Same here!
Fr I’m going into my senior year of high school right now and this album perfectly sums up how I feel about life right now 😅
I love this analysis. You articulated the meticulous and intricate approach Kevin took with this album. Sending this video to all my friends haha.
My only hope for Kevin as that he circles back to using the guitar as a primary ingredient in his music. He can use synth pedals and other effects to apply all he has learned. You’d be amazed how wild and funky you can make an electric guitar sound. Kev knows this too. Think that F O N K Y riff at the end of Let it Happen. I miss that.
That was his express goal during the innerspeaker years, to make the guitar sound like a synth.
Ese Güerito FONK
If you miss it go listen to one more hour, or might be time they both have some crunchy lines you’d like. Don’t give hope on this album just off of one thing it lacks, when it brings so much to the table
Also patience has some
I'm pretty sure the riff you're talking about is a bass riff.
On Track hit me the same way Eventually did when I first listened to Currents
Romil me too i really felt that in my heart and soul
Samee
Just wow, you explained to me why I fell in love with Tame Impala 6 years ago... RELATABILITY. You also explained to me how even though Tame Impala is evolving it’s still relatable as ever. Thank you 🤘🤘
Lonerism is my favorite all time album!!! I swear it saved my life in a painful dark time.
Lonerism is definitely my favorite too. I'd go:
Innerspeaker: 8/10
Lonerism: 9/10
Currents: 8.5/10
The Slow Rush: 7/10
Nathaniel Mathias Major I agree completely.
@@ianisaacs2340 Noice
this guy turns songs into episodes of a season
I didn’t even realize what some of the lyrics were until I watched this.
Was just listening to Breathe Deeper.
I was listening to "is it true"
Jim not saying it's bad but that's my least favourite song on the album.
Posthumous forgiveness is my favorite at the moment
Abhishek Basnyat Used to be mine as well but it grew on me. I love the falsetto part where he says "I'm just so terrified to face her"
Jules Gilmour my favorites are “One More Hour”and “On Track”
Middle 8 is like Anthony Fantano but talks about music from a neutral perspective. Once again, 11/10 video
Midthony 8ano
I'd argue it's nothing like that douche because it's from a musical perspective.
Because Middle 8 only makes videos about music he enjoys
And Fantano didn't really like this album. I don't know why people lean on his opinions so much.
@@sunburner- the guy has a terrible taste in music. The fact that anyone watches his channel never ceases to amaze me.
tame impala is what happens when an artist has full creative control of their art and the freedom to explore all aspects of their craft. an artist in its purest form.
I love this new album, kevin is such a legend
Time is a valuable thing, watch it fly by as the pendulum swings, watch it count down to the end of the day
the clock ticks life away
It’s so unreal
Kevin is the most beautifully creative artist of our generation, dude... I don't connect to any music the way I do with Tame Impala's. Love it.
Same, he is genius
Agreed! For me, he is our generation's Kurt Cobain. :')
Kevin and Alex turner
Dang your really broke this down really well
nice profile pic :)
Lonerism and The Slow Rush ,for me, are the best Tame Impala albums.

So weird cos I like inner speaker and currents but they’re all pretty close

“The Slow Rush”

@@boahboat0406 exactly.
My eyes rolled about as hard as my jaw dropped when you laid out that FBDO quote. This channel has such a lovely charm to it that combines some pretty cheeky humor with just razor sharp insight and analysis! I think it's quite nice(:
Do yourselves a favor, and go see him live! The set is amazing!!! His WHOLE art direction is top notch
Listen to these albums back to back and you'll see how far he's really gone from step 1
Enrique Garcia time is represented through change. We’ve had over 10 years of Tame Impala, 4 distinct directions.
It makes me sad that Patience didn't make it onto the album. I feel like the thesis of The Slow Rush can be found in the opening lines of Patience. "Has it been that long? Did I count the days wrong?" Somehow time rushes right by no matter how slow it feels.
Au contraire, I think Kevin made a great decision by not including Patience bc the beats on the song are v dissimilar to the entire album bc obviously he made Patience way before he actually started work on The Slow Rush. Patience wouldn't have fit into the album's sound aesthetic. Just listen to Patience and the album simultaneously and you'll realize what I'm saying!
I think that Patience should’ve been on the album. I think he put it out to give us something to get us by for one more year (hah) but it would’ve fit into the album so well. Sucks that I’m not able to listen to Patience on the same vinyl record as the album
honestly it would ruin the album patience for me was a bland single, the drums and bongos didnt mix well with the piano balled and the synths and some of the lyrics for the first time on a tame impala song where questionable, but the opening lyrics are clever. on the song you can just hear the rust from the half decade he didnt make music
@@delaneyfayceno choice is also amazing
The drum-driven mega-beats on this album are simply legendary
you've changed my entire view of this album and now I'm gonna listen to it so differently so thank you
