Fav Tracks: Alter Ego, Jeremy's Storm, Runway Houses City Clouds, I Don't Really Mind
Least Fav Track: Expectation
"I feel like I needed to be high for this" was the most correct phrase of the video
I mean…now that I’ve seen all these memes, I feel like I didn’t judge it fairly BECAUSE I wasn’t high.
glad to see this comment lol
This album and it’s art bring me home and at peace. The album cover is a pic taken not an hour west of me in the beautiful and trippy North Carolina mountains. Runway is one of the best pieces of music ever period.
I think this album is one that grows on you. Alter Ego and Runway Houses City clouds I think are two of his best in his discography.
Also, would love to see you react to The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips!
The grower aspect of it is revealing itself to me as it makes its way into my daily listens. Those two are the best on the album and amongst the greatest in his discography!
Thank you for the suggestion!
Kevin is a drummer at heart. Jeremy's storm. Just think of the name and what the drums role is. Plays it's main role and so much more
If you enjoy this kind of music, you should review the first album of Melody's Echo Chamber, a really nice piece of psycodelic rock
Also produced by Kevin Parker
Thank you
And also Melody is Kevin Parker ex-girlfriend.
This album was difficult to grasp on for me also but I’m starting to love it
I can see it growing on me but it just didn’t grip me the way Lonerism or even Currents did. It feels like a baseline with limitless trajectory as seen by the following records. It is still a baseline, however. Very different when heard last instead of first on the discography.
@@marnotreally same I experienced this album last so I had a similar reaction from you but I have one more comment I just got to the part where the interlude for the bold arrow of time came on and why do you hate his little interludes 😂 for me they add a different layer to the song, I do see your reasoning but from TSR I feel like the breathe deeper one was executed greatly and you seemed to dislike it can you give more insight from your perspective
Psychedelia being very much a 60s thing, I would highly recommend exploring the genre by listening to Beatles tracks like 'Tomorrow Never Knows', 'Strawberry Fields Forever', 'Rain', 'I'm Only Sleeping', 'She Said She Said', 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds', 'Blue Jay Way', 'Being For the Benefit of Mr Kite', and 'I Am The Walrus'. The Beatles psychedelic period is contained within the albums 'Revolver', 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', and 'Magical Mystery Tour'. I would also check out the bands Jefferson Airplane, July, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Pretty Things, and Pink Floyd's first album. More modern iterations of the genre (including Tame Impala) are Temples, MacDeMarco (which is closer to dream pop/bedroom rock which, in turn, are offshoots of psychedelic rock), Melody's Echo Chamber, Blac Rabbit, and Animal Collective.
Don’t forget MGMT.
To me I feel like this is actually the peak. The later stuff is too outer spacey, whereas at least here you are getting stereotypical songs which have some structure.
I remember someone saying this album was like John Lennon jamming with some psychedelic rock band in the '70s and that is the vibe it gives off which is why I love it.
An honest reflection of the album. Thanks for your insight. I must admit my experience of the album was much different but l experienced Tame impala from beginning to present and not the other way around which can matter. Also my experience was rooted in a time and place which often happens with music. Totally appreciate your point of view though.
I totally get it. I got around tame impala the wrong way. I started somewhere I liked and then went to a less experienced Kevin and my expectations were maybe too high. I still go back to innerspeaker on long drives and whatnot. However, lonerism and slow rush remain my go to dailies. Thanks for understanding my view. Glad to have you on board!
"What is your purpose?" During expectation outro. Purpose is to vibe out
The vibes didn’t hit me at all. Somehow the least vibey tame impala project.
Urph I can see how and understand. Innerspeaker for me used to be my least favorite out of currents and lonerism. Nowadays innerspeaker can rival lonerism for me depending on my mood and what I'm doing while listening to it. Lonerism is king for me though. Slow rush last but not to take away that it's still great in its own way. I also love the guitar tones used in innerspeaker which is basically not used anymore in his new projects. That tone is what always brings me back to innerspeaker and lonerism
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
finally lol thank u so much
ive been looking foreward for this
Glad to be of service. I’m also very glad you stuck around. Keep the suggestions rolling!
@@marnotreally If you are a fan of Tame Impala it would be a crime to not recommend some POND. Kevin was in the band as the drummer, and still produces their stuff to this day. Members of POND play with Kevin as his band when preforming Tame Impala live too. I recommend either Man it Feels Like Space Again or The Weather by POND, they are such bangers. And I really do feel like Innerspeaker will grow on you more because its probably his least accessible album for sure, but definitely my favorite. :)
Was happy to see this pop up in my sub box. I'm sad you didn't like the album as much as I do but sure if everyone enjoyed the exact same things as each other the world would be a boring place. Don't feel too bad either for not feeling too enthused in your reaction either we all get days like that from time to time man. I still very much enjoyed the review and respect your insight a lot. Keep it up man!!
Thank you so much. I feel so bad sometimes when I have to put out a video like this. I know what it feels like to show music to other people and even though I’m a stranger in the internet, me talking smack about your favourite album can feel bad. But, we can disagree, appreciate the art and remain respectful to each other. Enthusiasm is easy to fake, trust me. I just prefer not to. Pretending is so exhausting.
INNERSPEAKER has always been my favorite
Urph!!! Coming so late into these but so glad you got around to my favorite Tame Impala project. Really invokes a different feeling, though I'm somewhat dissapointed I didn't get to see your reaction right when 4:20 hit on Runway Houses City Clouds. Expectation is 100% my childhood coming home from first grade so it's always been a nostalgic trip for me, though its a grower. Went to see his last concert before all this hit and it was genuinley another experience. Yet again, I'll be pushing for Anything In Return by Toro, Run The Jewels 4, Sound of Silver, and a new contendor (which I'm sure you've listened to) Massive Attack's Mezzanine...keep doing what you're doing man, editing is getting better!
I can understand being underwhelmed by this having listened to it last. He has grown so much with each release, but for it's time, nothing else sounded like this and it was mind blowing for me. This album is all about the vibe, the most relaxing, least danceable, most get stoned and sit on the beach.
I actually love this album and think its so underrated. Why wont you make up your mind is a top 3 tame song for me
Oh yeah, I recommend you listening to Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
Flaming Lips - The soft bulletin
MGMT - Congratulations
Melody Echo Chamber - Self titled
sometimes why is not the question.
I feel like a lot of psychedelic music can be accompanied by the question “Why?”
I think that it’s a common question yet it’s usually very easy to see why. With this album, not so much.
You should definitely check out the live album it’s so good!
Smoke and listen again. I hated it first time. His father died during the recording of the first album he made. Jeremey was his name. He died before seeing his son become successful. And when your high af its insanity
Impressive how well put together this is!
Bro I just found your channel by watching your reaction to currents, watched the lonerism and then i see you post this today lol just subbed you got great vids keep it up man
Thank you so much for all the kindness! I’ll make sure to keep it all coming. Feel free to suggest something for review (multiple listens) or reactions!
I would highly recommend listening to the b sides and remixes he puts out, especially the ones for Lonerism and Currents, as there are hidden gems such as beverly laurel and powerlines
Beverly laurel is one of tame impalas best songs
It's called a false ending. It's a staple in Kevin's songcraft.
You should definitely review Melody’s Echo Chamber’s self titled album! The album was produced by Kevin Parker and it would be interesting to see what you think of it. 😃 love the videos man, keep it up!
Kevin parker production is massively underrated.
Underrated by who lol He’s pretty much respected by everyone and anyone regarding his production
@@MARQ23 he created today's sound tbh lmao
Been loving your reactions! Tame Impala really is something special. On the point you made of "Where does psychedelia go from here?" you should check out Animal Collective. They are a truly unique group, and I think you would enjoy them. Top 3 Animal Collective records for me are: Sung Tongs, Feels, and Strawberry Jam (with Sung Tongs being the favorite). You can't go wrong with those 3 though, and I would be very interested to see your take.
AnCo’s music is magical
I’ve heard of animal collective but haven’t really listened to them yet. Do you think I should make a series discovering their discography?
@@marnotreally oh absolutely! AnCo have one of the more interesting discogs in all of music in my opinion, and lend themselves well to reactions. They are not the most accessible group, however, so be sure to start with the big 4, that being: the 3 albums i listed above and Merriweather Post Pavillion. Depending on your tastes I could give you more specific recommendations, but I don't want to set any expectations for you lol.
@@marnotreally Yeah! It’s very bizarre stuff that may take a few listens to truly appreciate, but it’s soooo worth it!
Never knew how much an instrumental could affect me... Cue the brilliance of Kevin Parker.
He does way better work with plain instrumentals than song bridges / intros and outros. Very unique artistry.
@@marnotreally 100% man, he just cleaned up our Australian music awards for The Slow Rush. Won 5/7 awards nominated including Best Rock Album, Best Group, Best Engineering and the big one, Album Of The Year 🤙🏽🤙🏽
You have a great talent of eloquently expressing Your thoughts. It's not very common. Plus I seem to agree with You on preety much everything You say so needless to say I subscribed :D
PS. You're right. The second part of Runway Houses City Clouds was truly transcendental on acid lol
Runaway houses city clouds is one of the best tame tracks in my opinion.
The Slow Rush is actually the latest album btw
24 yo Kevin Parker, that's what this album sound. It can be fun sometime, but Lonerism is still the best by far.
it has some gems in it that I pretty much love though
There are gems for sure. The album isn’t without its dull moments though. Like you said, it’s a 24 year old Kevin Parker. It’s all there, it just hasn’t fermented yet.
Really insightful review.. How u experience music... You express it really well... This album grew on me.. The songs in particular.. I get what u mean... They are great in like a random tame Impala Playlist and less as a conseptional album.. But it does grow on u... But Lonerism is hands down my favorite album...
My favorite album at the moment , it shifts however it was most recently The Soft Bulletin but The Flaming Lips and before that MGMTs Self-Titled. But at the moment this album speaks to me more than ever.
In the 1000 viewer 😄
Thank you KING
You should look at the EP
The song ‘half full glass of wine’ and the mosquitoes one after it are must listens for early Tame impala
I think the bold arrow of time symbolizes being Alive and the little ending part is you dead. Idk just how I always understood it.
that the bold arrow of time outro doesnt exist until recently, in fact the vinyl dont have that outro. I Don't know why he put this
Very strange choice to include it now. I do not understand what it adds and in fact, I think it takes away from the track.
@@marnotreally I completely agree, I just skip it 😅
am i the only one that thinks that one part in desire be, desire go sounds like a sore throat?
What part
