In the first episode Viktor asks Yuuri about his past lovers and then mentions that he should talk about his. Therefore that must mean that Viktor had a past lover and I’d love to see that although I 1,000% ship Yuuri and Viktor

He actually asked "do you have any past lovers?" And when Yuri denied he said "Then let's talk about me! let's see..." which means I dont think he is talking about a past lover he was trying to tell him about his past and Yuri mistook it with the topic he asked Yuri a while ago....
Viktor said in one of the episodes that he neglected Life and Love before meeting Yuuri, so we might get to see that in detail in the movie!

I refuse to watch sub. I just don't enjoy it as much in dub! It doesn't make sense to watch it in sub, no one has accents but in dub they do which makes sense since they're all from different countries. While it also doesn't make complete sense to be all in English (assuming only a few if any people know English in the YOI world), it makes the most logical sense(especially since English is the universal language).

I see people commenting about how Victor had past partners as if this would somehow disprove he didn't have love, but you can have a partner and still not find the love you need and be incredibly lonely. Victor would obviously had many people making romantic advances to him, since he's 1) absolutely gorgeous and 2) super succesful. But I think it could also tie into something like "everybody wants me bc I am the greatest but no one is willing to accept me like I am". A sort of shallow love theme you can imagine would come up in a story about a famous musician/actor/athlete/... I can imagine that perhaps he might not have been so confident as he let on to the outside world and perhaps dealt with his own struggles but had no one to share it with since he wasn't supposed to feel bad bc he was the best?? OR smth else that just popped in my mind since my imagination is rlly going wild rn: It could have smth to do with family. Being loved, being accepted, being supported.... We actually don't know anything about Victor's parents or family. Does he even still have parents? If he does, did they always support him?? My head is going BRRRRRR from all these ideas rn hahahahahha
Ooo totally agree with Victor’s past loves playing into his isolation. I think it can be really hard to find love when people want you for the wrong reasons. I’d be really curious to see that explored in the movie!!

Actually we've seen Victor's outfit before! It's probably the same one Yurio holds in episode 3 when they're choosing their outfits :D They even matched the color in the BD version.
I sense a bit of tension from young Viktor. He has his hands in fists (unlike older, more confident Viktor), and he even stomps his skate on the ice to calm down.
Also, I like how he didn't have gold blade skates back then, and no Russian flag on his skates yet.

Being a person who used Yuri!!! On Ice as a big coping mechanism through some rough and dark times, I was close to tears watching the recent movie trailer. I cant wait to see the new character development of Victor, I love seeing the emotional struggle and deepness of characters, especially in this anime. The way that they laid out the first season made everything feel so personal and welcoming.

I think the reason Viktor has both the coach outfit and participant outfit, is because that really is the case! In the last episode, didn't he say something like "it's going to be hard to train while being your coach" to Yuuri, after he decided he'd continue his skating career? :0

I am so hoping we get more on his family. Why we never see them, cheering him on the sidelines or Viktor announcing his engagement to them. Why he's so disconnected with them, why he never mentions them. I always interpreted him as being a middle child who outshone his siblings with his career and they got jealous. So he cut them off.
I’m a little worried with the war between Russia and Ukraine this won’t be released as soon considering Victor is from Russia. Not to mention with Mappa’s exhausting schedule.

As we look forward to more of Victor's backstory, I'd personally like to learn more about the motivations/ambitions driving his success as a young skater. I don't think Victor shares much of Yurio's fierce ambition or Yuri's fan-boy idealizations...so I wonder why he skates, and why he competes. Also, your Alexander the Great reference reminded me of....of course, BTS. (I am sorry, I swear I have an intellectual point, hahaha.) In a skit featured on a past album, they talk about how being at the top is scary, because you can never predict how far or how fast you can fall down. Like, how could Alexander have prepared for the fact that his early death would unravel and destroy the empire he set out to build...how can any of us be secure in the fact that everything we work for actually MATTERS?!? *existential crisis mode activated.* But I think you're right when you say that it is love - in all its different shapes and forms! - which gives all our trials and tribulations meaning. All the best shows recognize this, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out in the YOI movie! Great work on this vid, I'm excited for your MHA one!

Something that might be covered. I remember at one point in the series Viktor notes that Yuuri hasn't had any major injuries in his career (maybe also saying he was lucky in that way? Can't remember exactly) but it still hints that Viktor has had one, so maybe that's a plot point that will be brought up. Either way, I'm just as excited about this movie as everyone else! So glad to have a full true hint that this is a project that is still planned to be completed.
I know you talked about the animation but OH MY GOD THAT ANIMATION. When he's doing the crossover to speed up on the ice? chills.
Like, I am very much not an animation expert who could discern this but I'm almost wondering if it's some very well executed rotoscoping, it's very precise re. the weight shifts, even more than the original show's skating sequences were (and the original show's were GORGEOUS).
I really love how you analyze Yuri on Ice. Kudos to the research you do to piece everything up together. I have this hunch that the movie's release has been delayed over and over because there's a possibility that the movie could hint on a S2 coming up. I'd love to see how Ice Adolescence narrates more on Victor's life and background story leading to his 5 gold skating medals and success. Then if S2 ever happens in the future, it could be about Victor, Yuri, and Yurio competing against each other at the Grand Prix as Victor makes his return to skating competitions.

What got me to was the soundtrack, the music carry’s meaning too. There’s build up quiet and tense then as it progresses, there’s an event where it all algamizes into a harmony and suddenly It’s full of life, excited, ready for what’s to come. And that’s what made me cry.
I want the start of the movie to be like Victor and Yurio and Yuri are all in the same room like at the ice rink or something and I want Yurio or Yuri to be fighting/ mention something specific or trying out a a certain skating move, and catching Victor's eye and reminding him of something in his past and he wants to tell these two wonderful boys about his start in life and Yurio being like, *"Oh for god's sake really I have to listen to this again,"* and Yuri being so excited he can barely contain himself and Victor being like, *"It all started when I was [insert age]"* ... and the movie fades into him at that point and moves on from there.
Or Yuri doubting himself again over something and Victor going over to him and saying, *"You know I did that in the beginning too. Yuri, I would like to tell you a story about a Russian boy and the ice."* And it fades into young victor and continues on to the story.
Yes! I really want a frame story like this so we get to see all the characters we know and love before we dive into the past. It would be awesome if it was like how you described ☺️
I don't entirely know if this is that important of a thing, but in the movie poster it was white fading into blue, and in he trailer it faded to white into red, possibly hinting at his love of skating. but then there is the white that doesn't change, hinting at the thing that is missing. (love) I Don't know if this is just me being way too observant, or if it was intentional.

I live in Turin, Italy, around the corner from Palavela, where the ice skating competitions took place during the 2006 Olympics and also the ISU Grand Prix Final in 2019, which I was able to attend. I missed Yuri on Ice a lot and I'm really happy for this teaser, I hope not to wait long!

You mentioned how this would be Victor's first Olympic performance, however, I think this is his first Grand Prix assignment of the season. It mentions he's entering the Olympic season and if this is in France then this is the Trophee Eric Bompard now called Internationaux de France which is the fourth Grand Prix competition.
Hopefully they're taking is through the WHOLE season in the movie (let me dream, k? lol). SO EXCITED!

I REALLY want to know where the heck is Viktor’s family! Where are his parents? Does he have siblings? Was he orphaned young?! I feel like this information would be pretty important as to why he was lonely throughout his career
It’s so interesting to me that we heard _nothing_ of Victor’s family in the show. I wonder if he has a bad or lacking relationship with them... or if he really doesn’t know his family at all. I’m curious to see it play out in the movie!

I think I'm the poster they're on the beach in saint petersburg I think it was that victor talks about in the third or so episode after yurio leaves. He mentions that he loved hearing the seagulls and it looks like makkachin is really happy to be there

I was literally 12 when I watched this for the first time as it was coming out. I am so sad that I'll be a literal adult when the new season (movie?) finally comes out. well having watch your review and thinking back to the episodes Victor was really lonely.. he said that he can't even have cheat days.. and would just be allowed once in a blue moon to protect his figure.. he said he neglected life.. cause he sure dedicated his time only to skating. he neglected love cause he was always busy and flying arround the globe maybe flirting but not in a relationship. He only has Maccachin he was 27 and won 5 gold medals and went to different places but still his life was incomplete. I think the factors that made him took a break was he was feeling lonely at the top, Yuuri's invitation to be his coach, Yuuri ignoring Victor after the finals and then the video of Yuuri dancing his routine that eyes of his on that episode said like a final decision had been made. Contrary to what Yakov thinking he was just playing coach... he only wants to be specifically coach for Yuuri.. and when he went to Japan it's like all his shackles were broken and he was free... just by seeing him drinking, eating and hanging out it's the first time he get to do things he can't do and he was really happy for the first time. Victor gave Yuuri a chance to prove himself again in skating but Yuuri made Victor breakfree from his isolated world and be truely happy. And I think that he found happiness with Yuuri so he was crying and hurt when Yuuri told Victor he was going to retire from skating.. so we can assume that Victor's road to success was indeed a lonely one.. sometimes prodigy like him dedicated only their life to their craft they disregard that feeling of being alive. And when you are at the pennacle, reaching every goal that a figure skater could dream of you are going to look for something more different.

I feel that your correct, but as I see the poster is in 2 ways. 1: You can see him walking towards a pond or a lake that has not been frozen over, yet he's walking on ice. So it could possibly mean we are taking a journey to his past and really getting a rundown of how he became the Victor we see today. 2: He is younger, and he is walking on cracked ice, explaining the word adolescence, and his dog is guiding him through his cracked ice and leading him to a new lake that is waiting to be frozen (his future).
OO I like this idea about the poster! I hadn’t considered the symbolism of his walking itself and the surface but I can see either of your theories. The cracked ice idea especially intrigues me. Thank you for watching and for sharing your theories!!
