i haven't been properly in the haikyuu fandom in YEARS ever since the boom of fans it had in 2020, but watching this video really makes me wanna get back into the show after so long! i thoroughly enjoyed the nuances you gave when it came to yachi and kiyoko's respective characterizations and how nicely you summed it all up. and i completely agreed with some of the takes you made when it came to kiyoko's slightly unfortunate earlier and later appearances. kiyoko and yachi were both some of the main reasons why i really loved/still love haikyuu due to just how well it handled them both, so i may have been a little biased going into this video however i still really appreciated how you calmly criticized certain aspects that haikyuu could've (and honestly should've) improved when it came to kiyoko! overall, i really enjoyed this video, so seriously thank you for this !!!

Gotta love how whenever male characters get scenes of fanservice, no one bats an eye, but when there's female fanservice, people start freaking out (why call it fanservice at that point), especially considering this is a show that's, in a way "fair game" with its fanservice, showing it for both the male and female characters. The whole female characters not being as developed technically applies to a lot of the male characters since this show's method is focus in this character in one arc, then those characters on another arc, essentially picking a character at random in each arc or episode and deciding to develop them there. A lot of this video feels like making a big deal out of nothing or at least nothing non-major

It's feminist theory man. The same sort of stuff that says men are secretly gay and that's why they are so willing to have sex with most women informs this whole video. Same stuff that says age of consent is an authoritarian practice to get people used to following fascist laws. Feminism is something that has been so distilled into institutions it's like a religion now and this poor women speaking in the video has fallen for it.

at the part where you said after 3 years being in high school and Kiyoko hasn't talked to anyone or deeply connected with, the subject isn't something for you. I have been in high school for some time time and I've always been shy, finding a friend to fully connect with is like finding water in a desert. It's always been so hard because in the end I find myself distance, I've come to terms with it and I can see that in Kiyoko. I think what really pushed Kiyoko to become friends with Yachi is because Kiyoko is the one who needs to step up to teach her the ways to become the new manager, Yachi being very quirky and makes Kiyoko laugh probably eases her mind, but in the end it's still about their chemistry. Kiyoko found Yachi comfortable to be with is enough for them to be great friends and Kiyoko opening up. I get that in Kiyoko, I also only have one friend I truly connected with.

    a) i absolutely adore the women in this show b) i would love to get more depth to any of these girls, and just a suggestion, maybe in the future a side manga can be written about the second year, more of a romance story, about tanaka and kyoko, while nishinoya gets the world travel idea and where it comes from, seeing tadashi gets nominated to be the next captain for the third year, maybe even have a game where he has to get in as a sub captain during the 2nd year (wouldn't that be an AMAZING match???), in this story we could see washijo and hinata meet again after the nationals for the first time, the admiration of washijo showing <3 <3 <3 there is a lot to work with here. c) yachi could get way more light regarding her father and where is he, her mother, her future romantic partner. d) i demand a resolution to sayaka love life, who would she end up with? isn't the fact that she gets to meet all these wondeful adults who support the karasuno team could be a potential partner? i was sure it would go that way, i imagined she would end up with glasses dude, the guy who teaches tadashi

I’m gonna say this as a fan of both shows….MHA kinda has the same problems as Naruto does with its female characters. Minus the constant sexualizing and making up dumb excuses just to justify the overly sexualized outfit for Naruto. And because I love Naruto and the female characters: I’m NOT above pointing out the shit ton of wasted potential with the female characters. MHA would be pretty much treated the same way. There’s kinda reason FMA female characters stood out as being so damn good. They weren’t overly sexual, they were diverse in personalities, and were shown to be just as capable as the men were even if it wasn’t on the battlefield (like with Winry). I attribute that to the fact that both MHA and Naruto were created by men and FMA was created by a woman. If that’s not proof we need more women running the show behind anime I don’t what does.

I think as a cis heterosexual male that mineta’s whole character is designed to be hated. Not to be funny or anything. The show makes it clear that mineta is a bad person and that he is clearly a perverted person. It is just one of the many flaws in hero society according to stain. Stain says that to be a hero it is not enough to do heroic things but to also think heroically and to do heroic things for the right reasons. Hero society just cares on the practicality of people. But mineta is always criticized, although not enough sometimes, and people only put up with hime because he can be of help (a few times). I sincerely think he should be in prison and what he said to Eri was straight up illegal. It was like if one of the boys deepest and darkest jokes when they are drunk is said seriously. I think that there is some male gaze but it is not as evident as in other shows. For me personally I think that female characters are a bit underdeveloped but because they are not the center of attention, they are not the protagonists. But some of them like Jiro or Uraraka are given the same development as for example IIda or Tokoyami. The thing with Uraraka is that she is reduced mostly to Deku’s love interest. I think that trope is really bad and in this case it is a bit better handled because it is used her love for Deku as an inspiration for the kind of hero she wants to be. Me personally I see every character as such. Also I just think that if it is fiction, we can right and make our characters to look like we would like to be. Like most men are represented as fit and lean and all of that because every man would like to be like that. I don’t think that any woman would aspire to be ugly or anything. When they are pretty that’s when the minds of the degenerates start going and sexualizing the characters (r34 is disgusting). The sexualization of women is bad but there is a justification and there is also implied it is bad, let it be.

This is where Avatar: The Last Airbender succeeds where My Hero Academia fails. The way these two shows portray their female characters are for the most part completely opposite. The girls from class 1A and the main ATLA cast are pretty close in age. And yet one show manages to dignify their women, not just with their character designs but also with how truly impactful they were to the story. And yeah, sexist characters in ATLA do exist, mainly Sokka and Pakku, but unlike the men characters in MHA that degrade women, these characters have development and change their views on how they should view and treat women. Not that ATLA was perfect with this, it does sexualize Ty Lee (a 15 year old) in a weird way in one or two episodes, and I wont excuse that. However that is more of an exception than the rule. You could show me a scene sexualizing Ty Lee and I show you 1000 that sexualize the 15 year old girls in MHA. Its not like the female characters in MHA are Mary Sues either. They have flaws and weaknesses, but they dont let those things define who they are. If anything, these flaws tend to *enhance* their character rather than make them worse.

As soon as I watched the first episode and saw Mt. Lady twerk at the camera and say something like "Happy to make your Ass-quantance 😏" thats when I knew this show was going to largely treat its female cast like little more than objects or plot pieces. Sidenote, if Mineta's character never existed I wouldve enjoyed the show a little bit more. The dude is useless, has a weak quirk, and his entire personality is sexualizing the women in the show on a constant basis. And rarely does anyone put him in check outside of like a bonk on the head. Even the other male students rarely step in, like I would at least expect guys like Iida, Deku or especially Kirishima to be like dude wth? Whats worse is that his comments are meant to be taken as jokes. Im not even a woman and I find his lines to be disgusting more than anything else.

It is possible to write female characters that are both deliberately sexy and very empowered, but it's kind of disappointing that Bayonetta is the go-to example of this when that game franchise is over a decade old. Also, I loved the Jaws-style warning of the oncoming Mineta section... 😆There's enough people in the world that someone, somewhere has probably laughed at one of his scenes, but I've never met one of them. Maybe there's an edit that just excises him from the show? ✨

"the inherent horniness you're going to have with a large group of teenage boys" - in that age it's NOT okay to be like that; and the fact that they're boys is not an excuse at all. They are almost adults, and they should control themselves. Women chest shouldn't be objectivated in the first place!

  • @small_and_dangerous2068

One of the the things that I’ll say as a cis straight woman is that I at least appreciate the diversity in body shapes between the girls. As you mentioned, this can and should more often than not just be a trait we recognize visually but that has no exuberant amount of attention drawn to it. But yeah. I appreciate that Jiro is more slender and has a smaller chest. Uraraka is a bit curvier and smaller in stature. Momo is very curvy and has a large chest. Mina has a sorta large chest but more subtle curves. Tsu has a more average sized chest and a more athletic looking body.
