►WE USE THIS SOUND RECORDER (AMAZON) - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

What do you think?
By the 50% mark I solved a story problem I'd been having. John Bucher is phenomenal!
He’s correct. Hitchcock said the same thing. Alfred Hitchcock : They're obviously, they're going to sit there and say "show me" and they expect to anticipate, "I know what's coming next". I have to say, "Do you?"
That's not a mystery though. That's suspense. A mystery would be putting a box on the table and then telling the person to guess what's inside. Suspense is placing a problem forefront having something happen and make you wonder what's gonna happen now. Mystery isn't needed for stories, just conflict. Knowing whether or not your story needs a mystery is up to you and how you want to execute your concept and premise
@@chrisjohnson8227I’m still waiting for Alfred Hiitchcock to reveal the motive for murder. Hint: It’s too horrific for public viewing.
@@chrisjohnson8227true. There's a difference between Suspense and mystery.
Mystery is at the heart of compelling stories. Make viewers seek the information coming in the next scene.
This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear right now, working on a series. What is beyond? Where is the wonder? Yes! Inspiring. :)
Perfect!
My man JB!!!!! Love when he’s on! One of my absolute favorite story minds!!!!
He knows it!!! He's probably done it the right way🎉 👍
Love how he speaks!
How wonderful are these words. For me, right now, in my Story, he becomes the new character who shows me new ways: mystery & clues. Thank you for the serendipity
Finally, my favourite voice again. Such a wise words, once more. I love this man.
Remember that love is a mystery too.
What one character thinks about another dictates their actions.
In turn their actions can be a mystery to the other character. The revelation of love can thus be postponed to create tension in your story.
informative interview
This guy is DEEPER than THE ABYSS..
I have to fill my HELMET with PINK LIQUID just to listen to him 😂
I'm serious
Reminds me of real life scenarios especially the clues of the characters of people I meet and thus solving the mystery of what is happening. Sometimes what you actually solve in real life is not a happy ending like in many western movies.
Profound.
Yes!!! Mysteries rock!
I love the church of john bucher
In high school and at university I had two stories graded as a “C” because instructors believed I had plagiarized my stories. It was so off putting that I stopped writing. Now I cannot write at all after COVID.
ok so...?
@@Eippol_ Good point. I’ll show myself out.
@@marladaviswho No need to do that, just try to write again, that's my point! 💪
If you can't write in last years, it's probably due to 2 things: maybe you haven't found your "voice" yet (or your personal type of prose) and/or you haven't found a story that it's both personal and at the same time objectively externally entertaining. When you have these two things (voice/prose + a story very personal AND externally interesting) the writing sparks naturally ;) Keep trying and good stories will come back to you, I can guarantee you, don't let your writing perish!
@@Eippol_ Note-by-note, the 30-year story of lies-by-omission has been capped due to brain damage via COVID-19, and again in 2022. Thank you for your kindness.
Magic mushrooms can help
Not true.
Most Hollywood films identify the entire arc in the trailer. 😂
Tell that to the wire. One of the main things is that we knew how each side played the game bc the point wasnt the how but the character explorations at each stage of the game.
The Wire is an anomaly. The framework of the show is based around the hamster wheel of society and the results of decisions and choices and opportunity as it presents itself to a random number of different people.
You therefore take the mystery out of the story and the mystery box situation becomes a question mark attached to the characters and the decisions that they'll make that will inevitably lead us to an end that we already see coming.
What an absolutely brilliant series in every way.
@@shill1444 yh and that's my point. The show isn't an anomaly. It's just a show that knows what story it wants to tell and how to effectively tell said story. Not every story needs mystery but some do. Some may even not need it but can be enhanced by it. Some may be killed by having a mystery. It all depends on the effect your trying to get out of the audience
@@chrisjohnson8227 - ahhh, I agree there. I see how you mean it. I call a show an anomaly that can strike all bullet points (pun intended) successfully like The Wire does. Very few compare.
You know there are way more bad shows than there are good. Lol
Oversimplified. Mystery is a tool in detective stories, but it’s useless in real drama.
