SOLO CAMPING 100 (East) - How easy is it to find camps? Part 2/3

- SOLO 100 - what does it mean? Well the the name says it all, going SOLO for 100km basically. What i am trying to achieve in this video series is to see if you can travel in South Africa for 100km at a time and find reasonable camps along the way, 2 days of a single direction and then another direction in a homeward bound direction.
In part 2 of the series i head in an easterly direction, again not knowing what lies ahead other than the thrill of adventure. The only part of my planning on these trips is literally the distance, the rest is completely unplanned, i make use of a few tools to help me find camps, Tracks4Africa, and iOverlander, other than that there are no obvious reasons to visit certain areas i do.
This trip saw me heading East through Ceres and finding a cute camping spot on a cherry farm, not bad accommodation and reasonably priced too. The camp grounds were clean, the ablutions workable and the owners super friendly and enthusiastic. I love the camp and would definitely if required again use it as an over night stop. The camps name was Klondyke Cherry Farm.
Being woken up early by saber tooth pigeons (Ibis or as we know them Hadeda) i left early for my next stop...
Gecko Rock Private Nature Reserve, without saying too much about it, this was by far my favourite camp of this trip. It's amazing camp sites, beautiful views, cold pool (much needed in the heat) and not to mention the amazing owner's and their family. The camp is extremely well run and maintained to the last detail. A camp i WILL be visiting again in the very near future. There are multiple activities to do on the reserve and one can keep themselves very busy for a long time while staying there.
The following morning i make my way south westerly/westerly heading toward the town of Roberstson, sheesh what a surprise of a day i was in for, this has to be one of the strangest days of trying to find a camp i have ever had. Camp after camp NOT MEETING my requirements...i will let you watch to understand what i mean. I had no idea there were that many folks of this kind out there :-)
Needless to say the entire Solo 100 East was a success and again an achievable outcome!

Great video, thanks. Had a good laugh about your reaction to the nudist camp. Was also looking for a site in that area a while ago, luckily read the reviews and saw the same sh!t, better avoid the whole area! Might be a bit further East but we found Leeuwenboschfontein which was pretty good. Waiting for part 3!

Literally just exploring the area, was new to the Cape at the time and had no idea where i would end up to be honest 😎
We had the same experience some years ago in this area, its not so easy to find a campsite without booking. Gecko Camp and the last Camp looking very good, thanks for this video.
Yeah, my issue though is I seem to do it on a payday weekend which makes it harder to get in. Gecko Rock is amazing and highly recommended, the last camp wasn't too bad, bit close to the other camps but not at all terrible...

well it's not that often you find them, and to find 6 in a day...
You passed through my hometown Worcester, and I was guessing between Kwaggaskloof dam or Altyd Water was going to be one of the places you would have gone camping. If you want a nice quiet place in land to go camping, there is a place schoongezicht camping, which is a lovely place with minimal wind and its just awesome

I want to start overlanding as well, but with my damn Pajero always costing money breaking on every simple weekend away trip, i frist want to get a Fortuiner 2012 model 3.0 d4d before i go to Bots or Namibia or even Angola is also on the bucket list.
