Great WalkAround ...
I own a 2008 4.5l V8 VDJ79R with a 3700kg GVM UpGrade & weighs in at approx 3700kg all day every day ...
hahahaha all day everyday, best comment ever, weight is something we will never win the fight!!!
Nice gedoen ...ek is besig met n 76 ..2009 om dit te herbou . Dankie vir al die tips . Sal graag net n rooftop tent wat meer hoogte het gebruik .
Great video! Thank you.
That was a terrific video. Thanks for the great tour. I can't wait to get back to Africa!
Thank you Marcia, I'm sure you are itching badly...
The Donkey is Awesome 👍👍👍
Thank you Markus 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Viva The Donkey! 1st time I’ve see that style tent. Looks super spacious and comfy.
it's a perfect addition to the vehicle, extremely happy with it...
Just happy listening to real sound advice by demonstrating it all. With your experience you must rate A good quality snorkel high. Thanks!
Thanks so much, more over than a good snorkel, good fitment is the key...
Mate, what an awesome setup. Thanks for sharing. I've watched your channel for a long time, and it is good to see that you have gone into the guiding self-drive. I wish you all the best & propserity. Hopefully, post COVID we can come over from Oz and do a self-drive with you. Keep up the awesome work.
Hey Quentin, thanks so much mate! We've been doing guided safari's for quite some time, just not something i usually put on CZcams. Covid has had a huge impact on the tours but it will come back eventually and we can start getting out and about again with tours. That would be amazing if you could join us on a tour one day, keep us posted and thanks so much for the awesome feedback and support!!!!
Finally this took forever! so happy its finally online! good on you 👍
Sorry to have kept you waiting, but thank you Richard 🤙🏻
I Don't drive a cruiser but awesome honest review on all the gear, would have thumbs up'd it twice if I could. Great video. Subscribed.
Thanks so much for the kind words Lian, really appreciate it a lot and thanks for the subscribe!!! 🤟🏻
Very comprehensive walk-around, that description, yoh! Nice one 👍
hahahaha thanks Chris, I know it was a huge one 🤣😂
Great Video Roland! Especially love the detail in the description. Keep at it.
Thanks so much, hope it helps 🤙🏻
Hello from Saudi Arabia
I have the same landcruiser, I really loved the way that you organized your car, thanks for sharing that.
Thanks so much Hussein...
Hey mate, I have a RHD Land Cruiser and was wondering if you ever saw a RHD vehicle in Saudi Arabia ? I wanted to go through your country after Iran but I have been warned about getting denied entry because RHD are forbidden in Saudi Arabia. Have you ever seen foreigners driving through the country and if so, any RHD ? Thank you
hey man, I'm not in Saudi Arabia, I'm far down south in South Africa, but here I have seen many many RHD vehicles, it wouldn't be an issue if you brought it here...
@@MyLifeinAfrica thanks for your reply :)
I know about South Africa but Hussein said he was from Saudi Arabia so my question was aimed at him ^^
Thank you though
Ah I see, sorry I completely misread that comment, but all good, hope he replies 😎
Thought that was a great video, and your truck very well soughted, many thanks, Steve Manchester England 👍
Thanks so much, a few more things are busy changing but all in all we are very happy with the setup currently. Thanks for the awesome feedback...
Fantastic video and useful content. Thanks for sharing. Seems that other countries love it too. Looking forward to your future videos's.
thanks so much!!!
Awesome set up! I have a high top 75 series troopy and one thing I'm surely doing is that dummy aerial to avoid hitting my roof, thanks for the advice
it's been a massive help, I don't need to "hope" I'll fit through, now I know I will or won't 🤟🏻
Wow Roland great walk around, lots of things I like on your rig . That awning is big but it would have to be the best I’ve seen, love gull wing windows and your kitchen setup, so much about camping is the kitchen and having a good quick easy to use kitchen is everything in my opinion. And solar power for days that’s awesome. Donkey s weight......... without you and your family 3010 kg oh and I love those storage bags on the rear doors smart smart smart , I’m going to look them up
Thanks Terry, really appreciate the comment, close one on the weight, the storage bags are custom made by 4x4Assist based in JHB, they do ship country wide though... donkey weight 3180kg 🤟🏻
Yes dude! what a set up!
Thanks Alex 🤟🏻
That's an incredible set-up but the two things I loved the most was those canvas organisers on the back door windows and that small slide table👍
Don't know about the awning. It looks too cumbersome and heavy.
Thanks for sharing👌
Thanks Michael, the rear door storage is a complete win, we've actually just upgraded them to a new version. The awning we found was a bit much and are changing that too. It was awesome with the amount of shade it gave but a little tough to setup and pack up alone.
Keep an eye on the channel, another rig walk around has to be done soon...
@@MyLifeinAfrica personally I would get the bush company xt 270 degree or hiowlng moon.
Thanks
Mick
I'll soon have the new one added, going for something else, will show you guys soon 🤟🏻
Awesome vid! nice chatting to you the other evening at kleinbaai
Thanks Kyle, was good to meet you as well, hope you joining us tomorrow for the 4x4 day?
@@MyLifeinAfrica where and when? Didn't even know about it!!!
send me a DM on Instagram and I'll send you the details
Great rig you have there I am 100% jelous 😉 thanks for sharing, watching from Scotland,uk 👍🏼
Thanks so much Paul 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
very nice the donkey, greetings from Italy
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey I just saw the donkey fly by near the Hugenote toll gate. It was 11:30 3 January 2021.
The funny thing is I told my Dad who ever sees a troopy first gets 100 points. Few minutes later the donkey whizzes past our 76. 😀
hahahahaha that's epic man 🤟🏻
So what do you win? 🤣😂
If i were to get myself a troopy, i would get a twin of this donkey
Great truck. Thank you for showing us.
only a pleasure, glad you enjoyed it 👌🏻
I really enjoyed the full video wish u all the best
thanks so much man, a lot of changes have happened since that was filmed 😎
Great rig man. I like the idea of the aerial on the front bumper
Thanks Henry 👌🏻
Awesome video! Where did tou have the convas work done? The spare wheel cover is incredible! Much appreciated.
Great Video as always..Like your new tent and 360 awning
Thanks Dean, much appreciated...glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video mate!! Love the comment on the fuel - Perfect answer. Donkey's weight... 3100kg.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 thanks man, you are 80kg shy 🤙🏻
@@MyLifeinAfrica so close.. Get out of the Donkey next time you weigh it. 😂
I had to actually, if I was over they said they would fine me even though I went voluntary, with me in it, donkey was over GVM 🤣😂
Missed your awesome videos Bud🍻🍻
Thanks Shane, more to come soon...
Like the antennae idea. Loved the "before" shower...lol. Fire Extinguisher? Thanks.
Hey Gary, thanks thanks, hahahaha yes the shower was a bit primitive but it worked when alone 🤣😂, there are 3 fire extinguishers in the vehicle, one next to the driver seat, a fire stick/sticker on the shelf where the cameras are and another behind the driver seat in the pouches...
Hi Roland,i figure the Donkie is 3750kg give or take, love the setup.Watched all your videos of your buddys of Overlanding.Keep up and enjoy, i envy you guys...Cheers Lucas
Thanks Lucas, he's not quite that heavy, at last weigh in he was 3180kg, he's also shed some since the terrain tamer install, so currently around 3100kg... 😎
I love this👌👌
Awesome video and awesome rig. Keep up the good content 👌
Thanks so much Adrian 😁👌🏻
Awesome rig!
Thanks so much man!!!
Nice setup
Thanks Ryno...👌🏻
Thank you very much , my favorite truck by far . Take care be safe , Merry Christmas.
Thank you John, we love our donkey as well!!! Keep safe as well and enjoy 2021!!!
Nice video, thx for the info...
Wow such an awesome rig!!! One day...
Cool channel!
thanks man, appreciation the comment!!!
I have had a clam shell tent built in Sth Africa as well and just bought the bundutop tent...its brilliant:D perfect for Aussie conditions. Where can we get one of those tyre trash/carrier bags? Great looking rig fella!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! Agreed those tents are amazing, super happy with ours! The wheel bags are made by a company in SA called 4x4Assist. They are based in Johannesburg...🤟🏻
Great and much waited walk-around! P.S: Who is this [bip] who put a thumb down?
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Awesome video, thanks for the walk-around. Is Donkey your daily driver or do you have another vehicle for town driving? Why do you have the pop-up tents if you have the rooftop tent?
Hey David, bit of a catch 22 answer, donkey used to be my daily driver yes, but after moving cities I've now got a bike as a daily. I do also have other vehicles. I carry the popups basically because we're a family of 4 and a half (half will be introduced to the channel in January) the rooftop sleeps 2 and the popups are for the other 2 people....
Nice walk around... Like the aerial idea... think the big girl is on gvm loaded. 3180kg..🤫🤫
100% on the weight guess, donkey though is male, can't be making this beast a girl 🤣😂
Great video, thank you so much! Do you know the brand of the donkey tire bag? Do you recommend it? Best, Oliver
Hey Oliver, thanks mate! The tyre bag is made by 4x4Assist based in JHB...
Love from Zambia
Thanks so much!
Great walkaround. The water tank looks like 50L or so. How much water do you carry when on a trip. Where we are we can regularly get river water for things like washing up and showers but in Southern Africa water usage must be more critical - do you have any insights on average usage and how you mange it on trips?
Hi Kavita, the tank is a 50ltr, you are correct! The average usage will depend on the trip length, the menu plan for the trip etc etc, it's hard to give an average but if i had to guess you could get away with about 5ltrs a day. There are not many rivers i would trust to fill from, not to mention the fact that our rivers have predators in them and if they don't the nasty in the water will get you.
Hi Roland, great walkaround, just watched again since seeing it when first posted. Still amazed you're just under the GVM...it looks so much heavier with all the kit, especially with 80kg of extra fuel on the roof...I'm assuming they were full? I got weighed on a trip and was 3520kg. I've since reduced weight quite a bit by getting rid of unnecessary kit.
Thanks Vince, there really isn't much in the vehicle to be honest. Fuel though is not on a 1 to 1 ratio so the 80ltrs will be a bit less than 80kgs. They weren't full though at the time I weighed the vehicle. I had 1 tank full, the other empty and no one in the donkey at all, but with all the rest of the regular kit on him. With 2 people and all full I would definitely be over but not by much. I've actually been through my kit quite a bit and there is not much that I can actually remove.
@@MyLifeinAfrica Ah, OK that makes sense. We all go through our kit reducing it where necessary but I'm at bare minimum now. My weight was two full fuel tanks, 50lt water plus some charcoal and wood in the roof box, two people with loads food and drink. Thanks for replying...have a great week.
Nice rig mate 👍🏼
What kind the table do you use next yo the tire?
Cheers
We are in the process of making a new one, details will be in a follow up video to come...
Have you had any legality issues with your spot lights? Although E rated spots are accepted in SA, some travelers have had issues with not only light bars, but with multi led spotlights, picking up fines in SA and Namibia. Enjoying your videos, keep up with the great channel!
Hi Lance, sorry for only replying now, I was away for a bit! The lightbar is not road legal in SA but I've not had any trouble with it. In Namibia it's a R1000 as of the current date. Thanks for the kind words on the channel 🤟🏻
Could you please switch on image stabilisation for future videos? Nice Troopy and some good ideas here though.
I spot a turbo on the 1HZ. You will be sorry about that in the long run. 🙂 It’s a 1TB now (Time Bomb)
not at all, it's a great addition, I've had it in there 6 years now and not a days trouble, you need to manage it correctly and there will be no issue with it...
I enjoyed every bit of the walk around, very interesting for someone who is in the adventure like me @rahalati
I liked the big net inside the car at the top at 28:25 , where to get such net and what is it called exactly to search for it on the net
Thanks so much @rahalati, it was actually a heavy duty cargo net, they're really not easy to come by. A friend of mine actually gave it to me and I ended up using it for my car instead 😎🤙🏻
Great channel and lots of good advice, thanks Roland. Can I ask where you got your rear door panel organizers? Looked on 4x4assists' website and nothing mentioned there.
Howdy Shane, they were from them, but he custom made them for me, just give Mark a call...
@@MyLifeinAfrica thanks Roland
You didn't talk about the engine mod. Did you add a turbo to the 1hz? Or did you change it out to hdt? I see the scoop and top mounted intercooler. Interested to know.
Great walk around of the Donkey...
Thanks Nyaus, I didn't cover it on this video as I did in the previous one about the donkey, it'll be a little further down in the videos on the channel. It was added to the vehicle before I purchased it. Still a 1Hz motor but not the usual dog slow one, low pressure turbo that takes the edge off pretty much...
@@MyLifeinAfricaThanks, didn't know you'd covered it before. I'll go back and look for it. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
thank you man will do 🤙🏻
Awesome setup. I have a Nissan patrol that I have set up for overlanding. Question , I love the canvas pouches on the back door. How does it attach to the door frame and where can I get some of them? Thanks
Hi Izak, thanks so much for the comments, I feel your pain with fuel, something we share! The canvas pouches are attached with A. Velcro to the window and B. Riveted to the doorframe, only after 6 years is the velcro starting to slip, I plan to replace on 2021 anyway with a new colour scheme, so works out well...
@@MyLifeinAfrica thanks for the reply. Yes fuel, the biggest expense when you plan a trip. But if you want the horses to run , you need to feed them. Another question....why did you choose the cyrix combined over a solenoid? I’m busy overhauling my dual battery system to victron but so far the start up charge was the part I thought about the least. So it’s interesting to see someone using a combined over a solenoid or a dc to dc charger (but you already have the victron
Mppt so that would be overkill, but then there is the 100% charge capacity)
@@Gothanza1 it's pretty simple really, so the cyrix charges both ways, so once my auxiliary is full the charge is then sent to my crank battery until full. So if I wake up on the morning and can't start my vehicle I wait an hour or 2 and it has been charged. The other benefit is the amp or passes to the batteries when driving, they have the 170Amph and the 220Amph, so depending on your alternator will depend on what you should get. I have the 220 and well it pumps my batteries when driving...
Nice video!! Where did you get this kitchen gullwing from?
Hi Moritz, they were custom made from Bushtech Aluminium Canopies in JHB, fourways, just off Cedar Road
Beautiful rig! What’s the rationale for using the RTT as opposed to a pop-up roof conversion? I’ve always thought the primary advantage of a troopy is the ability to create a live-in vehicle with the conversion. Particularly with the shortage of troopies in SA, I’d think it would be more cost effective to get a 76 or 79 if one didn’t want to chop the roof.
Well the big thing in SA is cost, at 100k +/- for a roof conversion it's all definitely cheaper doing the RTT compared to a full conversion. Not to say we are not looking at it, but right now it doesn't make sense. Currently I need a 4 person sleeper, the roof conversion would not provide this for me. Something once the young ones are on their own path for sure though...I hope that makes sense 😎
Thanks for your explanation, really helpful. Where do you buy the tyre bag?
That's from the guys at 4x4 Assist, you can just message them and they'll sort you out!!!
@@MyLifeinAfrica thanks 🙏🏻
no worries at all 😎👌🏻
Which garmin are you using on your dash? I have a Prado 120 and find the garmins too big for the dash!!
Hey Effendie, i have been meaning to reply to you but keep forgetting to check the model number, i went and had a look now and it is the Nuvi 2595, so nothing special but it works well...
Where does one get those wheel arches for the troopy in SA?
Nice Roland, some very lekker upgrades.
Weight? 3.2?
Thanks Sean, you're almost right, 3180kg 🤟🏻
Hi, what engine you running in the troopy? And what mods are done to the engine?
Hi Willie, it's a 1Hz, 4.2 straight 6, have an aftermarket turbo that's about the only mod to the engine, a low pressure turbo though so great for maintaining speed and that's about it hahahaha
Nice... That freezer, can it maintain -18 in 30C ambient?
it definitely can, I run mine at -18 usually and it always maintains the temperature without a hassle!!! 👌🏻
3200kg must be on or just under legal GVM - Nice walk around, but the table supplier is not listed not is it named. Please share more on your tyre table.
Very very close guess there, there will be a new one coming soon, this particular one is not made anymore. BushGearSA are in the process of making a new and improved version.... almost spot on with the weight...
The donkey is the 4.2 Diesel trust me
Yup, and he's very very much a donkey...👌🏻
With a full load, I’d say you are at 3600kg
shooooooo not that heavy, someone further down here guessed it exactly 😜
Where did you buy the cargo net in the back? Want to use it in my canopy.
It was actually a gift from the guys that do my canvas bags, 4x4Assist in JHB 🤟🏻
Nice vehicle. Do you have a weblink for the canvas stuff as I also have a 78 troopie
Hi Richard, 4x4assist.co.za will get you on contact with Mark who does our canvas work for us 🤙🏻
@@MyLifeinAfrica many thanks.
@@richardevans2534 no worries at all 😎🤟🏻
Hi, Did you make the tire bag and tire table yourself?
Hi Kreiger, we made neither of them ourselves, you can however order both from our suppliers, 4x4 Assist does the canvas bags and other things and All in 4x4 does the tire tables, let me know if you want contact details?
How much has this changed ? Specifically the victron | electronics…
Not by a lot, just changed the panels and 1 or 2 other things since this video...
@@MyLifeinAfrica - I jumped the gun. I saw you did a recap video later on: thanks for answering me.
Average of 6km/L is actually not that bad considering all the equipment and extra weight over factory.
anything I consider on a 70 from 4.5ltrs is a winner
@@MyLifeinAfrica What average speed do you normally do when doing tar highway?
normally about 100-110kmph and that's GPS speed, I generally do not drive faster than that!
@@MyLifeinAfrica Nice
slow and steady wins the race 🤪
