The scenes between Aegon & Sunfyre and Rhaenys & Meleys made me cry honestly. The way Sunfyre was protecting Aegon and the way Meleys looked back at Rhaenys as she died broke me.
dragons are the biggest victims on that stupid war.. they are loyal to their riders. SOO LOYAL,.. meanwhile aemond still cant control vhagar,..shows how pathetic he is
Qual parte que o Aemond não conseguiu contrar a vhagar nessa batalha? Ele controlou ela muito bem, pediu para ela ficar quieta, e ela o fez.@@clintoyclintoy9025
I feel bad for all those dragons😢
Aegon barely able to speak Valyrian is hilarious
Loved that scene and it really makes sense. viserys didn't care about them and alicent can't teach them valerian
@@RobertSawneyAnd Amond its the only one that it's really proud to be Valyrian.
@@RobertSawneyYeah, and Aemond is only adept because he truly went out of his way to learn. It reflects their individual personalities as well, they both had lessons but Aegon somewhat slacked off, being able to understand but not quite speak, while Aemond takes great pride in his Valyrian heritage and him being Targaryen. Not to mention this being Aemond’s sorta “comback” to what Aegon did at the brothel. Tells so much in so little.
I like the character but that had me lmao
@@lynnraven6101 yep and unlike other plot points it was massively hinted in S1 that Aegon didn't care for their valerian heritage. It was a great power play from aemond
What type of message would rhaenys be sending to the other houses that have sworn to rhaenyra by abandoning them in the middle of a battle??? What's the essence of swearing to a queen that'll just abandon her subjects because the battle got tough???
Didn't think of it that way thanks for the perspective
Also it was high risk high reward. For all she knew Vhagar would just fly to Dragonstone after this since it’s right there, and if she was able to injure or kill either Vhagar or her rider then with Sunfyre out as well they basically would’ve won the war since Helaena doesn’t fly Dreamfyre and Tessarion is really little and that’s it
She also got shitted on for not taking out the greens when she had the chance last season. She wasn't going to do that again.
Because a dragon is a bigger asset 😂. Is this even a question??? Losing those men wouldn’t affect the outcome of the war. Losing a dragon will. She got lucky that aegon came otherwise it would all be for nothing

I’m more sad for the dragons. Sunfyre was maimed 😢
On god, Sunfyre did not deserve all that.
Sunfyre was such a good boy :( he was so happy to see Aegon and was probably anticipating a fun ride or something. not to be double-teamed by two seasoned dragons and blown out of the sky. sigh
Bro in the books he gave meleys a run for her money and was a good fighter they should have kept it that way
For real! Sunfyre was dealt a terrible hand in life becoming bonded to that numbskull Aegon. Aegon is/was such a disgusting imbecile and sent this gorgeous sweetheart of a dragon straight to his death. There was absolutely no chance Sunfyre was making it out of that alive even without Vhagar there to toast him. Meleys was a much bigger, faster and battle hardened dragon. Also can someone please take Sunfyre out of his misery at the end?! All Cole and Aemond care about is if brainless Aegon is okay. Just a straight up terrible way to go for Sunfyre.😭
@@shibernyan2009 no but in the books sunfyre gave meleys a run for her money and actually did damage he was a good fighter tho

Dragon Blood smokes and boils. When a dragon is wounded, smokes and black boiling blood comes out with gusts of fire. 'Dragon`s, are fire made flesh' George R. R. Martin.
Oh that explains why they explode when they get wounded like Viserion and Meleys when she hit the ground.
Yes exactly, Dragon blood is like being hit with lava.
Black blood was flowing from the wound where the spear had pierced him, smoking where it dripped onto the scorched sands. He is fire made flesh, she thought, and so am I.
Daenerys Targaryen vaulted onto the dragon's back, seized the spear, and ripped it out. The point was half-melted, the iron red-hot, glowing.
It can melt iron so imagine what it does to flesh.
@@julesb1970 Kinda shows just how magical they have to be to even be able to exist.
@@TheRibottoStudios Viserion didnt explode.
@rexibhazoboa7097 bruh his chest was on FIRE when the night king struck him.
Comparing Aegon to Joffrey is wild. Joffrey did as he pleased and abused his power as a king, and he actually wanted to be King. Aegon never asked for this he actually wanted to flee and was dragged to be king. Acknowledging that he has no say in the matter he at least tried to do good, as an inexperienced, unloved man, he tried what he could. The guy got his son murdered in the most hideous way, he was used, manipulated and disrespected by his Mother, grandfather and now his brother... Where's the Joffrey? I'm not saying that Aegon is a saint, far from it. But comparing him to Joffrey is crazy. The way Alicent spoke to him this episode was horrendous, which made him join the fight so he can prove himself.
Agreed 💯
The one true difference between Aegon and Joffery, is Joffery was and is a coward boy who cannot see past himself, while Aegon is willing to throw himself into the fire and actually cares about his family, which is why he went to the battlefield in the first place.
agreed! I actually feel for him. He was used. And he is the creation of Alicent. Both of them are (aemond and aegon). Look how Daeron turned out, far away from all of them.
@@Mikoto545 not just her. Cole shaped their attitudes too
@@Mikoto545i hate spoling little sh@lts. Can’t shut up already. We haven’t seen Daeron yet.
And they released this episode on the birthday of Rhaenys too!!! She was born on the 7th moon of the 7th month. HBO you are sick!!
Alicent "do you think simply wearing the crown imbues you with wisdom?" Did YOU think crowning him would make him responsible?? She spent his whole life forcing him to be heir but didn't bother even once to instruct him
He didn't want to challenge Rhaenyra, he wanted to leave, he lost his son, he asked your advice, he was listening the council 90% of the time except ratcatchers - and now after 5 minutes of talking with you he starts drinking and leaves for suicide mission. Damn, I feel bad for Aegon.
Team Black but The Greens act like Aegon plotted with them to be where they are. He has no idea what he's doing and by keeping him out they're making it worse.
This 100000%
Yeah the compassionate view of aegon is that he was never cared about by anyone around him. All of them saw him as a tool and a means to an end. You can tell hes been severely developmentally stunted. He is a child mentally bc he was neglected and abused. His antics are the result of a traumatized child spoiled by privilege throwing tantrums and making rash decisions. He is a piece of shit but i dont blame him for it. I blame everyone around him
Exactly this. Alicent is a terrible mother.
The cycle of abuse... it's exactly how Otto parented her.
Daemon was also kind of right before…Both him and Rhaenys could have taken Vhagar and Aemond, especially with their experiences…
The Targaryen tradition is that they respect dragons, dragon shouldn’t have fight dragon. Maybe that’s why rhaenys don’t want to attack vhagar when daemon asking that.
@@crystalboo5213 Rhaenys refused to attack then because the order was given by Daemon while Rhaenyra was away grieving. If the order was given now she would fly off with Daemon to hunt Vhagar. Unfortunately neither was Daemon there nor did she expect to fight another let alone two dragons.
@@nitinmathew5391see that’s the problem. Why didn’t she expect two dragons? They know both Aegon and Aemond have dragons so why not expect a counterattack? It all seems like poor planning by the Blacks.
@@Swttng780because team green had only been using the army to take over land up until this point. they didn’t think they’d add in a dragon at Rook’s Rest. It wasn’t necessarily poor planning the whole thing was a trap in the first place.
@@lexiiniicolee that’s my point. Why didn’t they think about it? In order to win at anything you have to be at least two steps ahead of your opponent. Basically what Littlefinger used to tell us, lol
Somebody on Twitter said they can't respect Aemond because he was camping 😂
i mean he got a point 😂
Rhaenys returned because regardless of the ambush, the order from her queen and the original intention was to secure rooks rest and stop criston cole's advance. she could've easily fled on several occasions but that would mean effectively giving up the crownlands and maybe the war at this point, so se took her chances and decided to fight.
she already beat aegon and she saw how ruthless aemond was, so in a sense dhe was hoping she could end the whole war for rhaenyra here once and for all,. In a sense she knew the danger she was in so you could say she was effectively commiting suicide, but she also knew what fleeing would mean for rhaenyras war effort, so she stayed and fought...
say what you wil about rhaenys but if she was the queen she seemed the kind to take on the battle herself rather than send people to do the fighting for her, something we see in rhaenyra too, which is why she stands by her
Which is stupid. Rhaenyra would've appreciated it more if Rhaenys had fallen back and informed her. A dragon is more vital in this victory. She could've recouped and maybe went with Daemon or Baela later on or had a better strategy to fight Vaghar. They truly did her dirty. She wasn't this stupid in the books.
Sunfyre was already down, which only leaves Vaghar. They could've ganged up on him if Rhaenys was being smart. I wish they choreographed the fight in a better way. Her decision makes no sense if she had an opening to flee.
@@happilyevernever4289 Look at it this way, in the books, Sunfyre and Vhagar had to ambush Meleys because neither Aegon nor Aemond were confident that they could take on Meleys individually. The way I see it here - Rhaenys returned because, after seeing Sunfyre/Aegon downed, all that needed for TB to fully incapacitate the Greens was to take down Vhagar. With Vhagar and Sunfyre dead, the Greens lose their entire war effort because the Blacks will still have Caraxes, Vermax, Moondancer, Vermithor and a number of other dragons on Dragonmont. It was a gambit, to take down the 2 biggest weapons of the opposing force and ensure the war comes to a halt immediately.
I do agree, however, that the way Meleys fell to Vhagar wasn't really how I'd do it. It felt cheap and rehashed Arrax's death (not to mention Vhagar is as big as a castle, how the hell was it hiding behind Rook's Rest). I personally would have preferred to see Meleys and Vhagar really fight it to the bloody death and with Meleys only dying once Vhagar has burned it to a total unrecognizable crisp.
@@happilyevernever4289 She couldn't leave her post she had to stay and finish the job. If she left word would get out that Rhaenyra's dragon riders leave allies during battle.
@@happilyevernever4289 rhaenyra wouldve appreciated this, but rhaenys is smart. She knows that she needed to stay
The castle was irrelevant though. They gambled on drawing out the black's dragons to pick them off, and succeeded. Minus losing Sunfyre themselves, because Aegon is an imbecile.

@KelliFranklin im just a very tiny piece of it, just privileged to have that, I just do as im told and others work their magic.
Omg the idea of Joffrey with a dragon is horrifying 😂😂😂
I cried watching the episode and then cried again with this reaction. Meleys looking at Rhaenys as she died just hurt my heart. Seeing Meleys being able to injure Vhagar, solidified what a beast she was. Rhaenys as well, I'm definitely upset that her and Meleys died, but at least they went out fighting together. Pretty big loss for Team Black though, since they showed how truly valuable both of them were to the war in this episode. Watching the dragons fight, I had to stand up, I was too nervous. It was both awesome and anxiety inducing to watch. I felt bad for poor Sunfyre, even though he's Aegon's dragon. I'm sure this is just the first of many dragon fights to come, so I'll get to experience more conflicted feelings.
Agreed, Meleys giving that look back to Reahneys was like im sorry my queen, they both knew they were going to die but they knew they needed to fight snd try to do some damage. Reahneys knew she couldn't just retreat to Dragonstone with Aemond still in the area, if she did he just would have chased her because he wanted them dead. Rip the Queen who never was and Rip the red Queen Meleys!😢
The dragon blood is boiling hot, they essentially had pounds of boiling water poured on them. Not necessarily confirmed to be acidic.
Aegon and Sunfyre has one of the best dragon and rider bonds, their arc starts now.
I’m guessing Aemond and vhaegar used the smoke from all the fire to conceal themselves and got behind the castle to await the queen that never was.
It doesn't make sense tho. I would argue Vaghar's wings could blow those smoke away while it's moving about. Vaghar looks pretty heavy set. Moving about atleast should make enough noise alerting others from any sneak attack.
you know that vhagar never flew right. They very clearly showed it crawling.
regardless she was flying way too low for no reason

There are very few characters worthy of tears at their deaths, Princess Rhaenys is one of them. The Queen Who Should Have Been. Props to Eve Best for making Rhaenys so epic
I don''t understand how Vhagar keeps sneak attacking other dragons with considering how big she is. Probably due to battle experience
First one made sense because of all the clouds. This one was kinda stupid but it's whatever, fight was still cool.
@@hawks7111 True
@@hawks7111I can understand it, the fact Vahgar is so big she needs to be more sneaky. The castle is on a cliff so it was strategic of Aemond to hide on the cliff face as thats perfect cover if Raeneys comes back towards the castle to head back to Dragonstone after scouting the area for Vahgar. It still gets me so sad though, Rip to the Queen who never was and Rip to the Red Queen Meleys!😢😢😢
Coloration likely helps, they just showed us that Aemond was using camouflage techniques given it's a dull grey-green and doesn't have ornate frills or horns like some of the other dragons, and battles often take place in the grass. Imo Vhagar is like a giant crocodile, and those also stay low and use strategic attacks from below with devastating bite force to kill their prey.
Let's not also forget it's the most war-decorated dragon alive, and was trained by VISENYA who was not only basically the original daemon, but likely a blood mage herself.
Rhaenys didn’t flee because Vhagar would eventually catch up. Fighting was her only chance
Yup she couldn't just leave with Aemond in the area and so close to Dragonstone. She had to at least do some damage to Vahgar. Even though she knew it would be her death!😢
No she didn’t flee because if she did rooks rest would’ve surrendered and joined the greens and that News would’ve spread that the blacks abandoned their allies in battle and more houses would join the greens. Meleys is the fastest dragon so vhagar isn’t catching her but they’d likely follow to dragon stone tho
Imo the reason Rhaenys got back is to kill Aemond, not Vhagar. She knew that she can't kill the dragon and that she'll die, but if she managed to kill Aemond then the Greens would have basically no dragons.
That said, yes, Meleys was the black's largest dragon (its previous rider was Daemon's mother), now the title goes to Caraxes. However the largest dragon now is probably Vermithor, who is on Dragonstone but that doesn't have a rider yet
Meleys was their swiftest dragon. Vermithor is their largest.
I think she wanted to make as much damage as possible, she was on some sort of kamikaze mission.
Mannnn Rhaenys is so doom the moment she volunteered, but it's still such a bummer to watch. She's my one true queen.🥲
Aemond burning his brother is a long time coming, but it's still scary to watch. He seems surprised and scared by Luke's death, now he's just satisfied. Once you're a kin killer, the next one is easier I guess.

What was the first time?
@@Edwin.X If I remember correctly it's Balerion (King Maegor) vs Quicksilver (Prince Aegon). Maegor usurped his nephew's throne and it eventually resulted in a short rebellion where Maegor on Balerion ripped off one of Quicksilver's wings to let it fall to it's death, also killing Aegon in the process. When dragons fight, it's usually extremely one sided, or so close that both dragons almost die. Dragons never disengage.

It's strange how bad spoiler culture is within the HotD fandom given that GoT fandom was actually very good at shielding new viewers from spoilers
@unc54 It's because HotD is more entrenched in picking sides and in order to validate one's side, they'll just jump ahead and explain what happens further down the line instead of letting events play out organically. It's just microaggression after microaggression. The HotD fandom is actually trash.
Damn, Alan Taylor can DIRECT Dramatic action.
Aegon isn't Joffrey.
In the books it is said, that dragons blood is boiling hot, rather then acidic. So the blood, that falls on those soldiers from Sunfyre, actually burned them.
Sunfyre didn't deserve this 😞 He's most likely been trapped in the dragon pit ever since Aegon became King, and he probably thought they were just flying out for fun. It was painful to hear his cries.
Meleys looking at Rhaenys as she s dying absolutely killed me. So devasted about the turn of events in this episode even though we knew it was just a matter of time. ughhh really liked her!!
Rhaenys keeps fighting Aemond because she knows this is one of the best to almost only chances they'll have to take Aemond and Vhagar off the board (since Daemon hasn't even sent ravens---Daemon & Caraxes are the only others with enough experience to take Aemond head-on since Rhaenyra is queen and should not join the battle), or to at least wound Aemond and Vhagar enough that they aren't on the battle lines for a while, even if that kills her. Rhaenys feels there's a chance of one of those things happening because Meleys and her have battle experience, definitely evident when she banks during Vhagar's fire attack (when Aegon doesn't even think much less know to do that) and she & Meleys don't crash into the battlefield when Aemond & Vhagar do. Aemond and Vhagar are both too cunning, so Rhaenys knows it's a huge gamble, but the ever so slight chance she could succeed and what that would mean for the Blacks---that Rhaenyra would win the war---motivates Rhaenys to seal her own fate.
She should have listened to Daemon, have them both attack Vhagar.

Well caraxes and meleys are the best dragons of the blacks but in the books the battle was different than this and it was said that if vahgar was alone, meleys would have a chance against her (also in the books meleys burned aegon not vahgar)
In GOT I genuinely cared what happened to those characters and liked them quite a bit. Because they actually took the time to show some lighter, more humorous, or more sympathetic moments with the characters in GOT. Really making people like them because we saw them as humans beyond the political dramas.
Where as HOTD is 100% serious all the time, super bleak, goes at a pretty quick pace only really covering the political drama and action to push the story forward. And I think the characters sort of suffer for it.
Not that the show isn’t incredible or that the actors aren’t doing a great job. They are killin’ it. But I find it tough to truly actually like any of the characters because they all sort of suck as people. Some more than others of course.
But I don’t think a single character has grabbed ahold of the audience making them fall in love with them and root for them even when they are doing questionable things. Look at GOT we had Jon, Daenyrs, Arya, Tyrion, Sansa, The Hound, Brienne, Pod, Tormund, Varys, Sametc. SO MANY ICONIC characters with tons of fans who were genuinely invested in them and cared about what happened to them.
And even though HOTD shines in the political drama aspect and is an incredible show. I just don’t know if it is quite on GOT’s level because it doesn’t ever add those extra layers that causes viewers to get attached and genuinely care for said characters if that makes any sense. LOL.
Just to be clear I do love the show and think it is great. I do wish they would spend a little more time telling us why we should even care about these characters.

Yup, those looks each other gave each other was showing the bond and love they had, it was like it was my pleasure serving you. It was so sad, like goodbye!😢😢
Based on this episode, there are at least 3 more definitions of "cooked" that I have to add to my vocabulary.
I saw this comment on another reaction video but it sums it up perfectly: Even if Rhaenys fled, Vhagar would've followed because no way in hell was Aemond letting her leave. If Rhaenys fled to Dragonstone, Aemond and Vhagar would've arrived too soon for the others to escape and they all die. If Rhaenys fled to join up with Daemond, Aemond would've had clear passage to dragonstone where he would kill everyone there. The only hope of winning the war for the blacks was if Rhaenys put enough damage into Vhagar so that she is out of commission. Even better, if Rhaenys could kill the old and slow Vhagar and her inexperienced rider using Meleys, who was battle hardened and faster. Rhaenys did everything she could.
Doing a full under circle is Meleys move. She intentionally locked claws with Vhagar to claw at her chest.
they’ve been calling Daemond “my prince” because traditionally the husband of a ruling Queen is only raised to princedom. A king is seen as always above a queen so Daemon is effectively placing himself as at least co-ruler by titling himself as “grace”
Na yall my favorite reactors. Dudes are super intuitive and appreciative of the details.
Dragons are definitely nukes
Masterclass in cinematography and sound design in this episode, fr
McKay is really into this. I haven’t heard him speak so much
Cole is so cool I don’t understand the hate he gets
aemond and his damn sneak attacks 😭
I was like “forget about the bloody books Rhanys, Just go home!” Hahha
RHAENYS WAS HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHARACTER!!!!!
The thought of the dragons fighting was better than actually seeing it. It sucks watching sunfyre get hurt :/
Your reaction was so good guys, got me hyped up even though I knew what was about to come
17:38 "cole is being epic man" thats the moment when I subscribed, there are just too much hate for cole .
The way I saw it Rhaenys is tired of running and being looked down upon by men. She was ordered to defend Rooks Rest and she did it with her life. She's a warrior and a dragon raider and if she is to go down she'll go down in flames and she'll wreak havoc. She is also a mother who has lost both her children, she has accepted death long time ago.
Aemond said you think you gon laugh at me while I’m trying to get my rocks off and ask for my help?? BET😂
This is the first reaction from your channel I’ve watched and I love it. Keep it up. Can’t wait for the next episode.
Rhaenys and Meleys fought valiantly. She was the Blacks' biggest dragon at the time, but just wait until Vermithor (who is about as big as Vhagar) comes into the picture alongside Caraxes, Seasmoke, and hopefully Sheepstealer.
The plan was to draw out a dragon from Rhaenyra’s side, Criston and Aemond have already been talking about this plan they knew attacking Rooks Rest, which is right across the bay from Dragon Stone would make her come to defend it. They knew there was going to be a dragon there. they didn’t know which one, so they got Vhagar to hide and do a surprise attack but Aegon shows up, so Aemond doesn’t do anything at first. Thats why Cole looks confused cuz Aegon coming wasnt in the plan
22:29 "Is he dead or not!" what everyone said during that scene
We still got Vermithor, he's another large one.
third largest ever
“I hope rhaenys has a goated moment this season” famous last words
"I hope Rhaenys has a goated moment this season."
"I wonder what's gonna happen with Aegon this season..."
Carter read the manga, confirmed.
This was one of the best episodes in HoTD!! 🔥. I’m still in shock. I could wait for a reaction to this ep. You guys are good with posting fast! 🙌🏾 ❤️🔥
Valyrian steel armour is literally non existent in the books btw. Aegon's armour was supposed to melt into his body
it's never mentioned in fire and blood, but it's very much a thing since Euron possesses one in Asoiaf
@@niccologregorutti9309 Euron has one bc he has been to Old Valyria. If House Targaryen possessed such an armour, why it wasn't mentioned? Why didn't they try to make another Valyrian steel sword when they lost ancestral ones, Blackfyre and Dark Sister? Given the magical characteristics of Valyrian steel, it seems like an important detail and Valyrian steel swords of current era are also important enough, maesters also used to count Valyrian steel blades that could be found in Westeros. So no, there's no reason to believe this armour of Aegon II isn't just a show-only, poorly thought thru, addition
"he might make some questionable decisions here" I laughed so hard
Fellas: a strange but pretty lady offers you a mysterious drink in a spooky castle late at night. Do you chug?
imagine a parachute in this world they probably never thought about it which is weird
Dragon blood isnt acidic but it is boiling hot, it would be like being hit with lava in a sense.
"Black blood was flowing from the wound where the spear had pierced him, smoking where it dripped onto the scorched sands. He is fire made flesh, she thought, and so am I.
Daenerys Targaryen vaulted onto the dragon's back, seized the spear, and ripped it out. The point was half-melted, the iron red-hot, glowing."
So dragon blood can melt iron so just imagine what it does to flesh.
Dragons are fire made flesh, their blood is so hot it boils and thats what burned the soldiers
