@@ChristinaValkyrie Yeah. It was the perfect way to portray it. Everyone knows war is bad, and the show's been pretty unsubtle about saying it. It was still very easy to be hyped for the dragon battles though. Showing how awful even the "coolest" part of the war is, really hammers home that idea that there's nothing good or cool happening. Everything is awful for everyone involved.

Alicent and Otto were so focused on putting Aegon on the throne that they forgot to educate him and prepare him for it.
They didn't care to educate him because their plan was always to use him as a puppet. Alicent said so herself in Ep 1. They were expecting Aegon to get bored of it and they thought they could control him . I think Aegon really wants to be a decent king and has the ability to be but no one is letting him. All his foolishness comes from not being respected...Maybe it's true he's not ready for the role but Alicent and everyone telling him he's basically useless is not a nice thing for anyone to hear.

throw back to Season 1 Rhaenys insisting she would NOT leave Meleys; and she never did. The Red Queen and the Queen Who Should Have Been.
Sunfyre bopping aegons nose like a big Happy labrador 😭
It is important to remember that Aegon was NEVER trained to take the throne. Viserys came to the throne as a grown and naturally cautious and patient man, his brother Daemon was the impulsive one. When Viserys realized he was never going to have a son and he put Rhaenyra up as his heir, he trained her how to rule from the time she was about 14 years old. He brought her to attend council meetings where she could listen and learn and see how things get done, and she continued to do that for YEARS.
But because he was training Rhaenyra to rule and because she had sons of her own to pass the crown to by the time Aegon was a young teen, Viserys never bothered to teach Aegon.
And this is where I find Alicent to be a bad mother and HUGE hypocrite sitting there and cutting her son down that way because she is frustrated with herself. First of all, she tells him that she ruled for years during Viserys' illness, and for at least those 6 years after Rhaenyra and Laenor left court and Alicent was ruling with Otto, neither of them did a damn thing to TEACH Aegon how to be a good king. This is why the first time he sits on that throne at 19 or 20, he thinks he can just give a man his sheep back because "he came all this way" to petition the king in person. They haven't bothered to educate him on the economics of the realm and what a king can and can't feasibly to do.
He's having to rely on the advice of others, learning on the job, and he has competing views whispered in his ears. Larys doesn't say to him, "Let's bring all the ratcatchers before this killer so he can identify them." No, he says, "Here's a mace, my king. Vent your rage over your dead son," and like any angry grieving father might, he does. Then Larys says "We don't know which ratcatcher it was, so let's hang them all." _They're still dismantling the baby's crib, it's only been a day since it happened._ Of course his judgement is impaired.
And when Alicent says he should humbly BEGGING for the advice of his councilors, with TEARS IN HIS EYES he reaches out to ask her what she would have him do, and emotionally castrates him by telling him he should just shut up and do nothing, let everyone else rule instead. She made him feel like nothing, like he's less than useless.
And in this setting where men are defined by their deeds and their courage, what else can he do but go to the dragon pit (and greet the only creature in the world who loves him, it seems), saddle up, and ride to battle to prove to himself that he isn't useless and he is brave.
I really hate Aegon for a lot of things, but damn I hurt for him this time. He didn't deserve that humiliation from his own mother. She didn't teach him what to do before he came of age, and when he first heard that they wanted to crown him he tried to flee the country, he BEGGED Aemond to say he hadn't found Aegon, and to let him board a ship and go away forever. He never wanted this, he wasn't ready for it, and it's Otto's fault and Alicent's fault that they never tried to make him ready for it.

Aegon was a PoS. That being said, he was a sympathetic character. Alicent did not raise him well and then settled unrealistic expectations upon him. It is also unfair to compare him to Viserys. Viserys was an adult when he took the throne. Jearhys was still alive and had an opportunity to impart wisdom to Viserys when Viserys became heir. Viserys kingship was never contested and he became king during a time of peace. Aegon and Viserys' circumstances were completely different.
RIP Rhaenys and Melys.
yeah, understandably, Aegon didn't have the wisdom to rule the 7 kingdoms but also he was not supposed to be the king either, I mean what were they even thinking? to put that immature slug onto the throne .

Alicent is the real PoS. Worst mom ever. Her cruelty is what drove Aegon to such epic stupidity. She could have steered him so differently. Nice job, Alicent.
@@wahn10 Why is Alicent getting all the blame for raising him and not Viserys? He could've helped raise his son, he didn't get sick until they were older. The blame should be a little two sided.
I'm loving Aegon this season. Tom Glyn oveys humor and empathy in Aegon, who I kinda feel bad for. He told everyone that he didn't want to be king, but was forced. He knew Viserys didn't want him to be his heir. He began his reign trying to be good to the people but Otto stopped his efforts. His son was brutally murdered, his grief causing him to declare war that he is unprepared for. He looks to his mother for advice and she basically says that she doesn't believe in him. Aegon's a very flawed character but he's one of my favorites this season.
10000% they added so much depth to his character and the acting is insanely phenomenal. I did not think they could get me to care so much for Aegon but I feel for that kid!! The look in his face when Alicent told him to do nothing was heartbreaking

The scene between Rhaenys, Alyn and Corlys, it was confrontation of sort. She was saying that she knows Alyn is his bastard son. She also suggested he should be raised decently not hidden under the tides. Actually, it’s two bastard sons, we met the 2nd one in episode two. His name is Adamm. They both great characters and will play vital roles in the upcoming war. Keep your eyes on them.

I’m glad someone mentioned this!! I hate that there are people STILL complaining about “race swapping” because I LOVED the interaction we saw between the two brothers! The actors perfectly encapsulated the difference between solemn, serious, stoic Adam and his more adventurous, flighty and impetuous brother Alyn! I really hope for the sake of non book readers that their storylines stay mostly untouched (unless it’s to expand them) because they’re both brilliant characters. Alyn especially!!!
Alyn and Addam's parentage has not been implicitly stated, only implied. Stop spoiling!

Also, there’s interviews video between the actors who played (Corlys and Rhaenys) posted by HBO and Max, Rhaenys saying it’s an elephant in the room. “Not only he has one but two sons he’s been hiding” literally everyone gets it. keep up now lol 😂
House of the Dragon has the best cinematography I have ever seen on TV. It's just breathtaking. The GoT is brought in this show to another level in terms of cinematographic craft: cinematography, set design, costumes etc. It's just stunning.
Set design is very lack luster, but everything else you mentioned is spot on 👌

Aegon was too lazy to learn Valerian but stubborn enough to teach Sunfyre English 😅 they have one of the best connections ❤. Sunfyre is a beautiful dragon who was young but didn’t back down, got his chest split but kept flying, then also fell on that chest to try and save his rider.
I think Sunfyre just barged into the battlefield when Usurper commanded her in English and like didn't take a tactical approach to attack meleys because dragons understand high valayrion properly and if they are commanded in valyrion then they can understand the command properly and do it, and though Meleys was a fierce dragon and more powerful than synfyre still sunfyre probably could've fought better if she was commanded in proper valeriyon instead of English.....
btw I only felt bad for greens twice ,once when Haelena lost her kid {she was the last person to get caught up in her mother's and Otto's treachery and it's bad outcomes}and second I felt so bad when sunfyre was injured so gruesomely

@TheRealBillix I've seen this comment a few times. Idk, I love Rhaenyra, Daemon, Alicent, Corlys, Jacaerys, Aemond, and Helaena. The rest I just really enjoy watching, but won't be sad if/when they die. Maybe a little sad that I won't get more scenes with them. Characters like Aegon, Otto, Cole, and Larys might be snakes, but I love watching them.

I loved how they showed Sunfyre and Meleys and even Vaghar as the companion pets they are to their riders, right before they turned into incredibly destructive tools of war. So sad.
Aegon and Sunfyre's bond is one of the best bonds ever. I'm sad we got to see so less of them in the series 😢

Rhaenys and Meleys went out like the warriors they were. Daemon wandering around a haunted castle and tripping balls instead of going to war is certainly a choice as well.
I love the way Sunfyre and Aegon interacted with each other. So friendly and playful and gentle. And hell, Sunfyre even listens to his non-valyrian language.
One of, if the not the best, episode of TV I've ever seen. Hyped af for the next episode
Sunfyre is a sweet little dragon who had no idea what was happening. That baby didn't deserve to go out like that. He loved Aegon so much. And Malyse omg that poor baby. I think she knew what might happen, though, and she accepted it with Rhaenys. I dont care if they are fake animals i hate seeing them get hurt.
Quinn feeling sorry about the Dragons more than people just shows how much cares for animals with his warm heart ❤ & you're welcome for all the help from us Quinn! & enjoyed the "M'Lady" from you all hehe ☺️ scripted or not, the knights bashing into each other was a great amusing moment 😆 that dragon battle was visually stunning & shocking ending to 2 of our main characters! 😮 an action packed episode! (Also a nod to Dave for your excellent editing as always & a giggle to the intro in the full reaction hehe) 😁💚
About that biggest dragon the blacks had: I think what they meant was that Meleys was their largest dragon at that time. I believe Caraxes is a little bigger than Meleys was, but since Daemond went MIA in Harrenhal they couldn’t count on him showing up miraculously.
I am team Black through and through, but Tom and Ewan make it super hard to not feel some sympathy for their characters. And to Aegon especially. That nose boop he got from Sunfyre? And that genuine smile on his face? I melted 😢
Sunfyre is for now the only dragon in the show that responds to commands in English, because Aegon never bothered to learn Valyrian. He’s also probably Aegon’s only truly loyal friend, who loves him unconditionally. Did you notice that Sunfyre’s wing caught flame after Aemond’s dracarys? He tired to cover his rider. Also, it’s barely visible but when they go down, he turns at the last moment to hit the ground with his belly to soften the fall for Aegon. And in that last shot he is curled around him, although he himself is on the brink of death. He’s such a good boy, my heart shattered.
I was also kind of mad that they pulled the Vhagar sneak attack card twice in a row, but after some thinking I guess they tried to show us that Aemond can’t win in a straight 1v1. He tried to, Vhagar got injured and plummeted into the ground. Rheanys knew what she was doing and how to play to Meleys’s strengths, being much faster and agile dragon. Aemond said himself that he is a student of history, but he lacks the actual experience in fighting against other dragon riders. So… if someone, let’s say… challenged him into a direct dragon combat duel… Things might turn not in Aemond’s favour.
I literally BALLED MY EYES OUT so bad!! Rhaenys was my favourite character, such an amazing strong woman, she will be deeply missed. She would've been such a powrful hand to Rhaenyra!
And poor innocent baby Sunfyre just thought he was going for a flight with his beloved ryder, poor baby didn't deserve any of this, I really hope he survived😭😭

Rhaenyra hasn't just lost a dragon, she has also lost an experienced warrior, invaluable diplomat, advisor, and confidant in Princess Rhaenys. We don't know how grief will affect Lord Corlys but it won't be good. Rhaenys' death means there is no stepping back from all out war.

Yes, they are magical, beautiful, unique creatures and just to waste them like that... This is truly the downfall of Targaryens because of the stupid, petty infighting for no significant reason. I agree with Mason Quinn, Aegon is the best character this season. Tom Glynn-Carney brings so much depth to the character and makes you even sympathize with him even after what he did to those servant girls.
Just a little but not really. A rapist should not be forgiven or sympathized with.

Love seeing people actually appreciate/understand Aegon. He's the most heartbreaking character in this show and he may have done horrible things but so have so many other characters and he's so deeply misunderstood. All he wants is some validation, for his mother to love him, to not be seen as weak. Tom Glynn-Carney is absolutely killing it with this role.
As much as s1 him was awful, we only know that because we got to see him. I bet most of the lords were pulling the same type of shit and worse, we just didn’t see that part of their life. It’s not an excuse of Aegon, more of just showing most of the others likely aren’t any better than him. They’re just older and know how to shut their mouths about what they do. Tom is bringing so much to Aegon and I really hope this isn’t the last we see of him for the season.
@@chelscara Unfortunately it's obvious that the writers are very anti-Team Green and anti-Aegon especially. I think Aegon is by far the most interesting character and not only because Tom is an incredible actor. I do think he'll be MIA for the rest of the season though which is a shame.

Dragons aren't exactly 100% loyal, remember Aemon not being able to stop Vhagar, when she moved in to kill Arrax and eat Lucerys, after Arrax had burned her eye in self defence, not Lukes orders... They are deeply bonded, specially if they have hatched and been raised by their rider (like Sunfyre was by Aegon), but they do have minds of their own, including choosing new riders. Vhagar and Meleys both had previous riders who died and Vhagar was roaming wild for decades, until Laena found her and bonded with her. In the end, Vhagar even killed Laena in a mercy death (in the series, not the book). Vhagar is a wild card, specially with Aemon as her rider.
literally, Vhaegar is the ONLY reason why greens had the guts to start the war or even usurp the throne
Usually if the king is incapacitated it's the hand of the king's job to speak with the king's voice. However Cole knows nothing about ruling so this task could just as well fall to Aemond or Alicent, we'll have to see what they'll decide next episode. If however the king is dead, then Aemond is his heir, and next in line for the throne.
Aemond will take the throne as Prince regent and Protector of the realm like Ned stark did when Robert was dying

Harrenhall is like THE MOST haunted place in all of Westeros, which is why Daemon is having such a rough time of it. Also my heart sank/dropped when I saw Vhagar in the woods waiting for the signal.
Cole’s plan went exactly minus Aegon he wasn’t worried about winning the battle on the ground. He meant to lure a dragon in then signal Vhaegar to attack. And in the book the 2v1 dragon battle was planned and Aegon and Sunfyre just went down incidentally with Melys.
I honestly believe that Cole the look on his face when he saw the field and all the dead people and then he saw the king on the ground. I really think he lost his taste for this war. I don’t think he realized how horrifying the body count was going to be once they unleashed these dragons or how unpredictable things can be when you bring out the dragons. Rhaenys went back and back again to try to give the blacks a chance, like if I can cause SOME damage I will, plus she couldn’t abandon Lord Staunton and Rooks rest as they support the blacks and Lord Staunton sits rhaenyras council. I also think it’s a redeeming moment for Rhaenys as now she is truly fighting for a woman to sit the throne, something she was denied, and it’s somewhat retribution of sorts for what happened to Luke
I think she was trying to take out Aemond which would effevtively remove Vhaegar from the board.

50:07 basically she called Corlys out for fathering a bastard and then hiding him even though Alynn literally saved his life. She’s saying he can’t hold the kid accountable for him fucking up and it was also in part her realizing why he wouldn’t name Rhaena as Lady of Driftmark, he was thinking on this possibility but knew he couldn’t run it by her, obviously.
Tom Glyn Carney is so good as Aegon. He is a petulant little boy and bad at his job but also sympathetic because they schemed to put him on the throne but did not give him the guidance he needed. He is a King just flailing about with no help to be found. Unfortunately his best advisor was Otto.
Sunfyre will live but will take some time to heal up at least enough to take one more flight in battle. But he will be grounded for sometime. Poor Meleys died as a true dragon queen. Long live the red queen!!
I kinda hope Aegon isn't dead yet because that would give us a lot of drama between the greens, and maybe a possibility for Aegon to redeem himself? I basically don't want to lose him yet (famous last words).
I believe aemond purposely waited to let aegon get hurt or killed and aemond had his sword out and walking towards aemond

In the book, Aegon and Helaena had three children. The oldest son Jaehaerys was killed by Blood and Cheese, his twin sister Jaehaera and a toddler Maelor. Aegons heir ir Maelor, but since he's just a toddler, Aemond is prince regent if a king can not rule
In the show Aegon no longer has male heir, and the Greens would never make his daughter a heir because it would be like Rheanyra all over again, so that would make Aemond next in line, if Aegon would die
They REALLY took it to Vhager!! Meleys is a real warrior. And she was definitely pissed about it! I think they both wanted to “finish the task” from the last season. When they had the chance to end all of this nonsense! R.I.P. to the two “Queens”!!! 😢
Meleys was the blacks biggest dragon. But remember the end of season 1 when Daemon was singing to a dragon, its called Vermithor and is over 100 years old and is bigger than Meleys and lives on dragonstone in its liar but its bigger than Meleys who was about 75 years old. But vermithor is halfway in between the size of Meleys and vhagar. Which makes vermithor a massive dragon.
Vhagar is 190 years old and basically the size of Balerion the Dread at this point of her life. She is twice the age of Meleys who is around 85-90. The Red Queen was extremely fierce for her size but was outmatched by the experienced Grandma Dragon.

I’ve been thinking 😅 And if you look at this confilct like ”Targaryens are burning eachother out of the power structure” it all starts to make a whole lotta more sense. The high-council is definetly the one driving force behind this whole war, not the Targaryens, even if they do the deeds.
there are therioes that the maesters are behind it all to cripple the Targaryen dynasty. Since GRRM never wrote about it these are just pure speculations but it is a fun exercise
I think you guys may have missed the point of the interaction between Rhaenys and Alyn and the conversation that followed between Rhaenys and Corlys. I (and every other reactor I watch) believe that the implication is that Alyn is Corlys' bastard son.

They showed Oscar Tully as grandson of Grover Tully in this episode. In the book, the grandson of Grover Tully is named Elmo Tully, and *his* sons are named Oscar and Kermit. GRRM was having a bit of fun with their names.
I'm not so sure if I agree with you that everyone is slimy. There are quite a few character's with questionable moral's but, Princess Rhaenys has always carried herself with grace. RIP Princess Rhaenys and The Red Queen.

That was Corlys' bastard that plucked him from his watery grave. That was a sign to Rhaenys: she lost her daughter, she lost her son, and found out her husband, who had all this honor, that she was loyal to was disloyal to her. I think that was the last nail for her, and one of the reasons why she went the suicide mission route IMO. (Even though it didn't happen this way in the book entirely, I think this brings a realistic dynamic to the situation at hand in the show).

Love how they shown that Aegon can't speak High valeryian as was shown at the war council meeting between him and Aemomd. Even on dragon back he used commands in English rather than valeryian which made him a weaker rider. the only word he knew to use was 'dracarys' he didn't know any other commands.
Also loved the way they shown Vaehgars full size , seeing her fly across the screen like that and how long it actually took her from head to tail to cross 😍 Meleys used vaehgars size against her and pulled her down from the leg, clever girl 😔 vaehgar done another luceryas and sneak attacked to get her kill.
Also seeing how the dragon blood/acidic that fell from sunfyre actually burnt those men below gives us detail on how dragons actually breathe out fire 🔥
Did you catch that Aemomd picked up Aegons knife, that was the same knife that has the song of ice and fire on it that viserys showed to rhaneyra in s1.. needs fire to see the message written on it and it's just been laid in dragon acid/fire 😩 I hope aemond doesn't see that message.

I think it's intentional that Aemond has that dagger. I do think he will somehow see the inscription and maybe Alicent will be in the room when he reads the prophecy. I think it's intentional that they showed how fluent Aemond is in High Valyrian because only he would be able to read it. It would mean more to Alicent because I don't think it would make much sense to Aemond.

@@Shelley.x I'm hoping this is what they do because even though I think Alicent believes what R said, it's like she's still looking for that solid proof. Maybe when she gets it, it will propel her into a further downward spiral or a shift her in a completely new direction. Alicent has felt a little aimless this season. R also. The presence of both ladies felt stronger in S1 so I'm hoping they will flesh them out more moving forward.

She makes a cryptic comment about Aegon "having less rings/legs" so I definitely think she saw it years ago. She wasn't talking about Criston and the affair and what happened with Jaeherys.
They say Meleys is the biggest dragon on the blacks side but not if you count Vermithor.
Also Alyn of Hull in the books is rumoured to be Laenor Velaryon’s bastard son but it’s not revealed until after Rhaenys’ death that he is Corlys’ son. Rhaenys never knew so that was an interesting twist by the writers of the show.

@@etc8217 Aegon went to war completely drunk and unexperienced with a dragon that looked unprepared for combat and didn't expected going to a war. Rhaenys and Daemon are very experienced with their dragons. Meleys and Caraxes are (was) trained for situations like this and it's not their first time. Sunfyre lost the fight in only a few seconds against Meleys.
So sad for this two dragon's 😢...... But time for Daemon and Caraxes to come for revenge and this two are brutal duo 🫣 I like your reaction's every time 🔥✌🏻
Is it me or has no one noticed what Alys said to Daemon; he’s sleeping in a bed made of Weirwood ( which can cause visions), she handed him a drink and said”drink this to help you sleep and win “this place” (the castle) to your side.”. That line has really stuck out to me. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.

I love how it seems that each dragon has a different way of fighting. Meleys seems to love clawing at the underbelly 😂 and Vhagar, despite being a tank, loves her sneak attacks.

It's amazing just how well this show is. The acting and directing and effects have been absolutely steller since the first episode of season 1.
And I need more from the guy playing Aemond. He's absolutely killing it in this show. I hate the character but I look forward to every scene with him. Get this guy in more TV and movies.

Criston Cole thought this war was gonna be easy and didn't understand the devastation that comes with the dragons being involved.....and now he's getting humbled because he knows the destruction that's about to happen.
And Daemon told Rhaenys that it was gonna take 2 dragons to take down Vhagar.
Rhaenys got killed by her daughter's dragon.....that's the sad part 😢
The dragons break my heart because of how loyal they are. Notice how no one showed Aegon any respect or love during the episode, but once he reached Sunfyre, he booped Aegon so lovingly. Like a puppy realizing they're going for a walk. It just made what happened so much more heartbreaking.
Also the connection between Meleys and a Rhaenys. As she was leaving, Meleys looked at her as if she knew what she was thinking, like she was saying "One last go?", and that final look, like the last thing she wanted to see as she died was Rhaenys, and you can see how Meleys dying impacted Rhaenys's too. It was almost like she no longer cared that she was about to die, she just looked sad that her loyal dragon was dead.
Yeah, this is my favorite show right now on TV. What a time to be alive. I will also miss Rhaenys' presence and Meleys the dragon.
This episode really showed me why the Greens getting rid of Otto was thier biggest mistake because they all dropped the ball this episode. Aegon is upset that Ser Criston Cole is making plans without consulting him but when he did it in episode 2 by sending Ser Arryk to kill Rhaenyra you didn't say anything then instead you rewarded him by making him your hand so now he feels like he can do whatever he wants. Aemond's and Ser Criston Cole plan may have worked but it was not the smart move, because killing Rhaenys was not a win. They should've went to Harrenhall while Daemon was by himself and his guard was down because he's been hallucinating and they could've ambushed him. But now not only do the Blacks have Harrenhall and the Riverlands, they also have the North, the Narrow Sea, the Blackwoods and Vhagar killed the Sea Snakes wife. They should've thought that through a little bit more.
I despise the greens (except Heleina) but I do feel Aegon was put in an impossible position because of the greed and envy of the greens themselves. The greens just want the throne and they are using Aegon, he is unprepared, but even if he wanted to learn, they would cast him as an imbecile. If Aegon wanted to be a good King, he has no clue how to do that and if he follows council from the greens, he won’t be a good King to the people. Otto just wants to amass power, riches and control of the houses. I felt for him, because his villainy was created by his mom and grandfather. I think, if Rhaenyra could have reached him in time, they would have gotten along and he would have benefited from a true loving mom.
Hey Guys , the discussion between Rayneese and Allen was to confirm that Crolus has bastard heirs. She spoke of how he was very Comely(handsome) and his mother. Just have been very beautiful? The she told Corlis “ I know who he is. Allen’s history was no fault of his own and he should be recognized for saving his Lord and not hidden! “. So Allen is Corlus bastard son and now there is the question of his brother? If they are both Corlus bastards then They have Valarian blood and could bond with dragons? I THINK that was the point of the scene a couple episodes ago when that guy was bragging About being Balon the great bastard and Viserus and Damon’s half brother. I am guessing because why bring forward all these Bastard side stories if there is not a bigger reason. We will see!
