People forget seasmoke’s origin rider was Corlys’ son and the Dragon senses a similar genetic make up in Corlys’ bastard son to his last bond, so picked him. Fun fact: Seasmoke is said to be the dragon, Dany’s three dragons in Game Of Thrones descend from. That is why the makers made Seasmoke the dragon that looks closest to the Game Of Thrones Dragons.

Aemond is still pissed over the fact that he was constantly bullied by Aegon but Alicent never did a damn thing to stop it. That's why he always goes to Sylvie at the brothel whenever he needs to feel comforted. Alicent never taught either of them how to be decent & kind. She has never been half or even a quarter of the loving & nuturing mother as Rhaenyra was to her sons. She always coddled Helaena, but ignored the two boys that stayed in King's Landing with her.

Addam has Velaryon blood through Corlys. The Blood Magic from Old Valyria encompasses both Targaryen & Velaryon blood. Both Targaryen & Velaryon can bond with dragons. Seasmoke had his eye on Addam due to missing his prior bond with Laenor, who is now confirmed to be dead because that is when the bond breaks and a dragon can bond with another, only this time the Dragon sought out his rider rather than the contrary.

      @Tooba-K123 Před měsícem +1

All Targaryens being mad is a show thing and a myth created by Robert's rebellion cause victors write the history. In the whole 3 centuries of Targaryen rule only 4 Targaryens were said to be the bad blood but each had their own stories. The mad king (Dany's father) was imprisoned for 6 months in a dungeon that caused malnourishment and psychological side effects in him later on in life. Aerion Brightflame Targaryen was arrogant enough to think that wildfire would make him turn into a real Targaryen. These two are the only ones we can truly call mad. Maegor I was simply just cruel but his actions were necessary if the Targaryens were to remain supreme monarchs above all authorities. Aegon IV was a big jealous fool and out of pettiness legitimized all his bastards. We can even count Baelor for being a Holy freak to the point of weakening the political aspect of the crown but at least his reign wasn't that long.

Daemon wasn’t celebrating, he was there but he was by himself, separated from the commotion and quiet, but Daemon is too proud to explain himself; and Viserys kept listening to Otto always speaking against Daemon. If they would have figured out how to stay close, none of the subsequent issues would have arisen.

Aadam is Corlys’s son by blood and Laenor, Seasmoke’s first rider in season 1, Rhaenyra’s ex husband, was/is Corly’s son aswell. Maybe Seasmoke sensed a familiar scent or something…

Jace wasn't questioning whether non-Targaryen people could ride dragons. The belief had always been that only Targaryen's of noble birth could ride dragons. Jace questioned whether or not they truly had to be such, or if others WITH Targaryen blood could also ride dragon's. This includes the bastard children of Targaryens.
That said, we still don't know for certain whether or not Addam has Targaryen blood. Remember, not all Targaryen's have silver hair.
If he does not have Targaryen blood, then my theory is that Seasmoke recognized that he was very similar to Laenor, his previous rider, perhaps by sensing it or by scent. Allyn and Addam share the same father as Laenor, so I think it's conceivable that Seasmoke feels a connection to Addam because of that.

While Sir Steffon as they stated has a grandmother of his grandmother with valyrian blood. Its also unknown who Corlys mother and grandmother is, which means there could be a marriage to a Targaryen closer than we at this moment known of.
But that doesn't really matter, because nowhere in the lore does it say that Velaryons cant be dragon riders. Its just that this wasn't their way from the origin of their house and had never been their ambition. As i and many others understand the lore. Some info for Oak when it comes to the book: this series is all in one book, but the book spans a much larger time span, beginning more than a hundred years before this series start, so the series actually begins in the middle of the book. It's "impossible" to say whether or not the series is faithful to the book, because the book is so vague and is told from tons of different perspectives with people's opinions, because it's like a book written IN the Game of Thrones universe, basically just being a history book for the people that live in that universe. And I think this is supposed to be the real canon, hence why us book readers are so eager to find out what happens in this series as well. For example, the entire Daemon at harrenhal part wasn't in the book at all. All we got from that was basically just: "Daemon went to Harrenhal"

  • @margisama

Alyn and Addam are both Corlys' bastard sons (which makes Addam half-brother to Laenor, Seasmoke's original rider). The Velaryons were from Valyria like the Targaryens but they weren't dragonlords. They did have a history of inter-marrying with the Targs so the implication in the show seems to be that either traces of Targ (or other dragonlord bloodline) ancestry *plus* Valyrian blood in general or maybe Darklyn showing too much fear *then* a touch of arrogance when he said he'd 'done it' made Seasmoke reject him and go for Addam instead. The more interesting question in this scenario is the implication that either Laenor died offscreen in Essos (when Rhaenyra noted with Mysaria that he'd been 'restless as of late'), or that with enough time and separation a dragon will bond with another rider while their original one is still alive.

Addam and Alyn are sons of another character in the books but here they are shown to be Corlys's sons. So, to give you a bit of information, in the books, some houses have this "tradition" where if you rule in some place and some smallfolk are going to get married the woman that is going to marry has the "blessing" of sleeping with her ruler (in this case was Corlys) and if they have children of that joining they are "blessed". Many houses stopped doing that becuase is was updated for them but Targaryens and Velaryons continued. Those children are called "dragonseed", in other words, "bastards". So, Addam is of immediate blood to the people who can ride dragons, so, the believe that only Targaryens can ride dragons is still present.

You guys haven't read the book, and arguably this show might be a better way to experience the story the first time, and then the book after. The book is an interesting but weird one - it's written like an "in-universe" history book so within the book itself there are multiple biased opinions of the truth, and some things lost to time, and a lot of rumours and hearsay. The reader is supposed to read the accounts of what happened and decide for themselves what the most likely truth is.
This show has done a fantastic job (so far) at threading the needle between all the accounts and misleading us in some ways that two accounts were half-true and things like that. The nature of the book allows for a lot of freedom and flexibility of the showrunners to come up with just one possible interpretation which they are showing to us.
For example, in the book, Alicent is portrayed as much crueller and one-dimensional - is this the truth or was she simply misrepresented in the histories (the book) for one reason or another and she was actually more compassionate like the show portrays? And this is just one small example! Other examples are that we don't know for sure who is sleeping with who, they rely on rumours, and Alicent's misunderstanding upon Viserys' death is written to be a calculated move, and Aemon deliberately killed Luke and Arrax. Is the show making changes to the book plot or simply showing us the actual truth (as the showrunners decide it to be) and the book just misunderstood or misrepresents the actual events? A cool concept, and allows a lore-obsessed person like myself a chance to (mostly) relax at the show not ruining the book and even surprise me sometimes.

I just watched a video on another channel that broke down how much Targaryen blood each character really has and most have a very low percentage. Some of these dragonseeds have more than some of the main characters and some a lot less. Adamm and Alyn have very little and yet one of them at least is a dragonrider. Even Rhaenyra has less than one would think. Blood percentage isn't the only thing that makes a dragon rider as poor Ser Steffon Darklyn found out the hard way. If anyone is interested the video is entitled "Targaryen Blood percentage for every Targaryen" by Everything Explained.

To Oak about Seasmoke. He chose Adam as rider, not the other way around. Also remember that Alan & Adam are brothers & both bastard sons of Corlis with Valeryan blood. The fact that Alan's hair is white doesn't make a difference. The important fact is that Seasmoke was Laenor Valeryan's dragon & he immediately recognized Adam as half-brother to Laenor. Some have said that all Valeryans have traces of Targarian blood because of centuries of cross breeding between them. But I think their connection was more Valeryan than anything else. Addam is his previous rider's half brother, so even if only a small amount of Targaryen blood, I think he will sense a similarity to Laenor in him?

I don't know why youd think itd be Alyn with Sea smoke. Alyn is, as Baela said in the previous episode that she is not, "salt & sea". Baela is a dragon rider, not a sailor. Alyn is CLEARLY a sailor. Addam is the only choice for Seasmoke.
